Acadia 2018 Map

I enjoyed this trail. I would personally rate it moderate or moderate-hard, although the distance is fairly long which can be tiresome for some hikers. The views throughout were breathtaking and definitely worth the consistent uphill ascent! Cadillac can get pretty crowded near the parking lot area once you reach the top, so it’s nice to stay towards the less populated areas for a more serene atmosphere.

Easy trail with absolutely beautiful and amazing views!

One of my favorite hikes. We started at the Jordan Pond house, went up the spring trail to Penobscot Mountain trail up to the summit, around Sargent Pond then up to the summit of Sargent Mountain and back down Deer Brook trail to Jordan Pond. Did this with my two kids (ages 6 & 8 - but well experienced hikers at that) and found it perfect. Good scramble at the beginning. Took us a little over 4 hours. Will definitely do again.

Hiking Tip: great morning walk to beat the crowds at Otter Cliffs portion of Ocean Path. We find Ocean Path to usually be its best in the morning - most tourists move together along the Loop Rd each morning, filling the same parking lots as they go. However, you can skip this parade of cars and get to one of the best areas at southern tip, Otter Cliffs, while parking lots are still available. Instead of taking the Loop Rd, take Rte 3 out of Bar Harbor, turning Left onto Otter Cliff Rd, then either park at the Fabbri parking lot or the 2 lots directly at Otter Cliffs. You can then make a 1.5mile loop around the most dramatic part of Ocean Path above Otter Cliffs, then around to excellent views over Otter Cove, ending near the Fabbri parking lot - all before the masses arrive at the southern point. And you completely miss the crawl of cars entering the Loop Rd guard stations before Beehive Trailhead and Sand Beach.

Once you get on the trail and away from the pond, the hike is great! Trail is mostly rocks and has pretty steep incline in some places. View from the top is gorgeous!

Beautiful views, relaxing hiking.

The views on this trail are just breathtaking. My husband and I decided on this trail because of accessibility and our dog Shadow. She did excellent on her ascent but there was no way she could make the 3+ mile decent. We’re lucky she’s cute. Some very nice ladies from California offered us a ride down to our car. :-)

rock climbing

Great with kids. Lots of rocks to climb.

Really nice day trip. Overall not too tough until above the tree line. It did get windy up there, I’d recommend a snug fitting hat or long sleeves. The views at the top are gorgeous, although I’d recommend staying away from the parking area for something a bit more tranquil.

Challenging hike. We then took the A Murray Young trail and it was AMAZING.

long steady ascent

Highly populated, walked it to go to the big sights.

Great trail with adequate challenges, and not impossible for even young children. The scenery is beautiful and the views from higher elevations are stunning.

long gradual ascent

This trail is a beautiful hike to the summit of Cadillac. Once you summit, however, you need to cross over to the other side of the mountain, then follow the Gorge Trail down the other side. This part is very steep with some boulder hopping (and drops). Continue along Gorge and turn right into A Murray Young trail. Beautiful mountain stream, cool and shady. Follow this to the junction of Murray and Cannon Brook. We found a nice flat spot on the rocks at this junction to take a quick dunk in the stream. From here, it becomes a very steep, very aggressive climb on the rocks for the next 30 minutes or so. Back into the woods and you will then catch back up with South Ridge trail, follow back to Blackwoods campground.

Nice short walk to the shore. Good tidal pools to find hermit crabs and other neat stuff.

Beautiful scenic stroll along the coast.

Absolutely beautiful! It’s strenuous for folks not used to regular hiking - but well worth it.

Nice views but no climbing

A wonderful hike! Not extremely strenuous but still a nice workout. Thunder Hole is very interesting to see/here. Lots of places to stop and sit on the cliffs and hang out. I would suggest going early because it gets very crowded later in the day.

This is a very easy trail for anyone looking for a nice stroll along the cliffs of Acadia! Totally worth the time if you're not looking for something strenuous.

Great views & very busy. Many opportunities to climb down off the path to explore & take pictures.

This trail was absolutely amazing! I wouldn’t say hard but challenging. I recommend you wear proper hiking shoes for foot and ankle purposes. My husband and I took our two dogs and it was not hard for them at all except for one part before the summit where there is a bar/ladder that we had to assist both. The scenery on the way up was stunning and breathtaking would definitely hike it again!!

Easy trail that mostly follows the main park loop road. Lots of little stopping points and lots of amazing views.

Beautiful trail. The far end of the trail takes you to a nice rocky beach that the kids loved.

Very easy trail but long enough to satisfy. The view from Otter Cliff to Sand Beach was stunning.

Quick, easy hike. Only recommendation is if you’re staying at Seawall Campground, don’t walk to this hike, even though it’s very nearby. Cars drive very fast along the road and in sections there is almost no shoulder.
