Amazing views and worth it. Metal bars as holds in the steeper traverses and a well marked path guiding you to the summit are very helpful.

Fun hike - includes a lot of steep climbs using metal bars fixed in the rocks. About 30 minutes each way

I highly recommend doing this trail it has amazing views and is by far worth it.

Went on this trail a few years ago.
Had a great time and can't wait to do it again :)

The views were spectacular! My husband and I had already done quite a bit of hiking this day (including the Beehive Trail) so this was very physically demanding. He asked, "Do our fitbit steps still count if we dragged ourselves off the mountain?" Lol. We did the South Ridge Trail and after reaching the summit we turned around and came back out the way we went in.

The views were spectacular! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is afraid of heights. You'll be climbing and walking on trails where you can look over the edge and think: "If I fell right here, I would not survive". With that said, there is no reason you should fall unless you're doing something dumb. ;)

Amazing views and steep climbs, but pretty short.

Made it back to the South Ridge early January for a sunrise visit to Cadillac -- easily continues to be one of the most beautiful, and one of my favorite, trails of all time. Based more-so on length than elevation gain (although there is still a fair amount!), I agree with the difficulty rating of hard. Do not attempt this trail in the winter unless you have proper winter and ice gear -- much of the the trail was completely coated over in ice and snow, and a lot of caution is necessary, particularly on the way down. It was also very cold and on the ridge, you are exposed to the elements. If you are prepared, though, then you're sure to have an incredible experience with some of Maine's finest scenery.

If a sunrise hike is in your plans for any season, be sure to have a headlamp or good flashlight. There are cairns and blazes along the ridge, but depending on the conditions you're in, they may be tough to see (if clear though, then easy to follow for the most part). Take your time and don't go off trail.

Great hike/climb, definitely one of the harder trails in Acadia.

Absolute must hike if you are planning a trip to Acadia. If you can climb a ladder or steep staircase you MUST do the beehive.

There were a few parts that were fun, maybe because of the wee ones with us. All very doable, it’s was foggy and slick when we hiked it and all made it up no problems with the rungs.
Beautiful views and pictures. Found a great painted rock ‘Kilroy was here’ left by a group from PA who paint rocks and leave them as souvenirs

great hike with some cool views

Cadillac is a favorite spot of mine and I finally climbed it this year. I chose south ridge up and back to my parking spot. I wouldn’t say it’s a very difficult hike, a lot of the trail is above the tree line to exposed rocked and for the most part a small incline the whole way up. But it is long. Pack water and snacks, make a day of it and enjoy some time at the top before descending and if it’s sunny wear a hat or sunscreen! Cadillac mountain is a must see in acadia but hiking up it definitely a must do!

Love this trail. The other reviews can be discouraging, as someone who doesn’t particularly love heights i can handle this trail no problem. You do climb right along the edge and there is pretty much nothing stopping you from falling, but the edge is pretty wide. Just takes your time and watch your footing. The iron rungs may be difficult for some more than others and there are quite a few on the way up. But the views are totally worth it!

Probably one of my favorite hikes in all of acadia. Acadia trail was surprisingly short to the summit, not a very high elevation, but stunning views nonetheless. Then you go down just to come back up Sauveur. Now the summit of sauveur is nothing special...it has trees and there is no real view from the top. But the views on the way up are my favorite, great views of a harbor and fishing boats. Both trails together make for a pretty decent day hike

Overall a pretty decent hike. I started from the bubbles parking lot up the northwest trail based on recommendations and came down the south ridge and followed Jordan pond back to the parking area to make a loop. It is a challenging climb up especially if it has recently rained...caution it will be slippery. Make sure to keep an eye out for the markers as the trail direction changes without some notice on the way up. On the way down south ridge some of the markers were pretty faded but easier to make out the trail. Great views from the top, but it was pretty windy the day I hiked so I didn’t stay too long at the top. I would definitely hike again.

Would do this again *in the summer.* A steep and technical descent down the mountain. We encountered a lot of overt and black ice sheets on open rock faces. Definitely an intense experience and were grateful for our microspikes. Make sure to leave time for fast sinking sun. Views were great and it was the most direct trail down from Cadillac.

Fun hike! Don’t let the difficulty rating scare you off. It’s a well maintained trail and the iron rungs make the ascent very manageable.

Beautiful view and just hard enough for amateurs but not too hard.

Vraiment agréable, avec le défi de monter aux parois à l'aide des barres métalliques. Un incontournable de Acadia parc.

what a hike that will work your legs and your will.

A definite must hike if you’re spending any more than a few days at Acadia.

Not as hard as other “hard” trails; beautiful; saw two bald eagles this morning while on this trail.

One of my favorite hikes. I would give it 5 stars but the trail is heavily trafficked in the summer. A couple of times we had to stop because of congestion. That being said I would go again, and again!!!

Hiked on May 14, 1994.

Hiked with my boyfriend in late June 2017. One of our favorite trails at Acadia. I'm not a huge fan of heights so my heart raced while I white knuckled the iron rungs. Awesome hike, thoroughly enjoyed the views!

This trail was awesome. Not gonna lie, about 1/2 way through, I was pretty scared and my heart was definitely beating a little faster, but I kept thinking of what the view would be like from the top, and once my husband and I made it up- it was so worth it! I’d definitely recommend doing this with another person, and not alone. I’d say I’m still a “beginner” at hiking (haven’t hiked anything crazy) and this was pretty easy/fun aside from being scared for like 3 minutes because of the height. DO IT. You’ll be so proud of yourself.

I did this trail clockwise so Penboscot trail first which was pretty much a vertical climb/continuous staircase which was a killer workout. Then it was a slow incline up the Penboscot open face mountain with epic 360 views of Acadia. Then it was a smooth descent down the Jordan Cliffs which was a nice view/overlook of the nearby lake. Highly recommend as this has some really epic views.

awesome trail with some gorgeous views...high steps and rungs. Challenging in places but worth the effort!
