Based on reviews, I thought this trail would NOT be enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of nature packed into this trail. It is super easy so it may seem boring to do the entire loop, but definitely worth doing a portion of it!

Super unique and fun hike! I would not plan this as an "out and back" route though. A lot of the sections are narrow and steep. Coming down while others are coming up would not work in a lot of areas. Plan for a loop following the Champlain North Ridge Trail and Orange and Black Path (there's a separate hike listing that follows this route). We took the Orange and Black down to Ocean Drive and walked along the road. Going down that route is way easier. Also, we started the hike later in the afternoon to make sunset at the summit. The views of the bay and sunset were awesome from the top. The path was not crowded at this time, but it was nearly dark by the time we got back to the Precipice trailhead parking lot. Bring flashlights if you're getting a late start.

So fun. A lot of traversing over granite rocks and spectacular views!

This is a lovely granite trail, with a few great little climbs. I loved the trail just didn’t love that others could drive to the top. It’s a very touristy peak but lovely little jaunt with my family.

Well the app deleted my path but just to let you all know. This is a nontechnical climbing trail not hiking so for your safety please be prepared. I loved it. I took the path that made up 4.2 miles instead of just the basic trail. Precipice-lake Champlain- orange and black trail. It was amazing.

Nice climb. Cadillac is the highest point in Acadia and has some great views, but like any viewpoint that has road access it’s a little cluttered during the day. The south assent is pretty steady with one of the most challenging verticals toward the end of the loop. Easy to tack on a side trip up and down Donn which round me out at about 11 miles.

Nice fairly easy trail, good for all ages. Check the tide schedule as the trail goes right by Thunderhole.
Very dog friendly trail.
Great views!

Awesome trail, love the steel ladders, amazing views!

Did Beehive after completing Precipice. It's different than precipice - iron rungs not present when needed and you need to use rocks to pull yourself in a couple of places.

This happened to be my first hike in Acadia. Was fun and also the fact that there is no going back helps - you just climb and finish it! :)

Did the loop clockwise and ended up checking Bubble Divide (tough climb) - but ended up seeing Bubble rock and an awesome view of Jordan pond from up top.

Great trail... lots of variety and wonderful views! Challenging but not too hard. Only crowded at the top. Do it!!!

Definitely a fun trail, not very difficult. Much more subdued version of Precipice Trail but still fun. It’s also very short.

This trail was amazing! Noted as the most dangerous trail in Acadia National Park, the Precipice Trail is not recommended for children, those who are afraid of heights or anyone out of shape. Trail is nearly all vertical, ascending more than 1,000 feet. It is almost a mile straight up, easy in the beginning and gets more and more difficult the higher you go. Mid-way you begin using ladders to ascend, then for the last third of the climb it is all iron rungs drilled into the side of the mountain, overlooking sharp cliffs! The scariest hike I have ever been on, but totally worth the time and energy!

Rather than coming back down the same path - suggest coming via Gorge path which was beautiful!

Amazing views at every turn! A great, relatively easy hike. I’d definitely do it again.

Great hike, definitely recommend it for the able bodied. I’m hardly the most in shape but was able to do this hike with breaks. Get here early (before 10AM) so you can find parking and avoid the big crowds. I took the long way down through Champlain north ridge and then making a right on Orange and Black trail. I took it all the down to the road and caught the bus back to the parking lot. You can also walk along the road back to the parking lot. Total time for 3-3.5 hours at a leisurely pace, stopping to snack.

Most excellent views. Not great for small kids. Nice break from crowds.

Although strenuous at times, the views and the path along the ridge of the mountain were breathtaking!

Pretty straightforward hike to the top of Cadillac but we did it last Thanksgiving weekend we’re temps were in the low teens and boy was it cold out there. Caught a few flurries up top but definitely feel like we earned it as opposed to those who drove up to the top!

This is definitely more than 4 miles if you’re coming from the Blackwoods campground. Beautiful views on top...If you have a slightly overweight elderly dog-it might be a challenge. Our 8 year old Golden Retriever barely made it down. Overall-Amazing!

The scenery is great, but whether or not one likes this trail entirely depends on what one is looking for: great for a little stroll (there are lots of parking lots along the road next to this trail) with nice ocean views. Path is entirely flat and smooth. However, this is of course no hiking trail whatsoever, but more of an ocean walking path (as in, leisurely strolling, not hiking).

Very nice hiking and rock climbing trail. Near-vertical rock climbing ascend for about ~0.3 miles; but nicely placed metal rungs help a lot. Very great views from the top.

Don’t try to do this trail the wrong way around; that is, do the trail *counter* clockwise, so that you end up climbing up the rocks and not down. Don’t attempt with kids or if you feel you might be unable to pull yourself up onto rocks (two or three spots require pulling oneself up onto shoulder-height rocks using rungs).

Also, good hiking shoes may be better for this than rigid hiking/backpacking boots.

Trail was very safe for a sunrise hike. Started approximately 2 hours before sunrise time and took our time getting up. A moderately difficult, but looong hike. Parking is convenient and right by the trail head.

Beautiful hike! I did the loop counter-clockwise too to keep the nice slop down from the top for the end. I did not know what to expect from the loop before going down Canon Brook trail, but I loved the river bed in the middle of the forest. It was worth going down and up again!

One of my absolute favorite hikes in Acadia. Short and rather easy, the views of Sand Beach are breathtaking. If you go at low tide, you can scramble down the cliffs and observe the tide pools below. A peaceful hike surprisingly absent of others!

Take the Cadillac Cliffs off shoot for much more entertaining (and a bit more challenging) hike. An easy jaunt up the mountain to some really beautiful views. The Cliffs offshoot offers some immense and fascinating rock formations - and feels much less traveled. A reasonable hike for everyone to try!

Not for the faint of heart. Because HEIGHTS. ladder rungs, scrambling and narrow edges are most common features. You must be certain of your footing on this one. Completely worth the view though. However, not for dogs, inexperienced hikers or young children. And don’t come DOWN the beehive. You’ll make a mess of things.
