If you’re looking for some of the best views on the GA part of the AT and the highest in Ga than look no further. It’s a heart pounding climb but well worth it. Can be very crowded on pretty weekends so plan your start early.

Love this short trail. Rarely see anyone. Good climbing. Good downhill. Not well marked. Nice river views. Picnic table at the top. Boardwalk first half mile. Hike or trail run

on Amicalola River Trail

Great trail that starts by the river on a boardwalk bordered by beautiful hemlocks. Be Careful though!! Some planks are missing from fallen trees that broke through. Boardwalk ends at small falls and blue blazes mark the Interpretive Trailhead. The trail is well-marked and easy to follow. There are a few moderate elevation gains but most of trail should be rated easy. A little under a mile is actually true hiking trail that goes through woodland bottoms and ridge lines that have nicely flowing springs. It ends as you summit a small hill. There is a nice little picnic area with a memorial stone. Mount Oglethorpe and Potts Mountain can be seen when canopy has fallen late fall thru early spring. The trail turns to gravel from this point on until about 500 feet when you reach the boardwalk. After the small hill, there is another cleared summit, from here with no leaves on hardwoods, you can see several peaks including Black Mountain, Springer Mtn, et al. The woods trail picks up again on the descent to the boardwalk and then it back to the parking lot. Very enjoyable and just the right length for a short hike with kids or dog.

Very crowded but great hike with awesome view. And there is another great overlook if you go past preachers rock.

The trail is moderate in sections but strenuous to Blood Mountain down to Neels Gap. From Neels Gap.up thru UNICOI to Plum Orchard Gap same type of terrain, but is all WORTH IT.

Really nice, fairly quick hike. The view from Preacher's Rock is outstanding. Overall not too strenuous.

Beautiful stroll...

This is a nice, easy trail. The scenery isn't great once the trail diverges from the stream, but the trail is well maintained and very clearly marked. As someone else mentioned, this trail is 6 miles, not 5.2.

It was a beautiful day for a hike! There was a Santa sighting on Blood Mountain yesterday’

Beautiful views and worth the climb to the top! Definitely had a few slippery parts after 1.5 days of rain, which also created a pretty wide runoff stream within the first .25-.5 mile of the trail. Suggest water resistant shoes with good traction, and maybe a few trekking poles for the way back down.

Great place to spend the day ,picnic ,hike ,camp ,kids playground .

I loved it! It was wet and slippery in places since it had just rained yesterday and, yes, it is a little challenging (that's good) but those views are worth it!! I was hiking at a decent pace and the round trip took me about 2.5 hours .

Great trail , two really great views , colorful !

We have hiked it in and out, but usually we bring 2 cars and leave one at the lot past Preachers Rock and camp. Lots of fun either way!

Always have enjoyed this hike. Preachers Rock has wonderful views, and because of that can be crowded. Don’t let it scare you though, it’s worth it.

It was a perfect day for spending a few hours on the trail. The little bridge over the tree roots was creative.

Awesome trail with beautiful views. Pretty rocky at points, but manageable.

I'd avoid it on beautiful days after it's rained. It rained 2 days ago and is 70 in late October so there were a lot of families of leafers. What little mud there was turned into mud pits got tracked onto rocks creating some slippery spots.

Really nice section of the AT. Hike up to Preachers is nice, view at the top is great! I went past Preachers and down to the Dockery lake trail. Out and back about 6 miles. Don’t miss the other overlook past Preachers.

What an amazing adventure! We had a small group. Amicalola to Unicoi Gap during Hurricane Micheal. Loved ever hard minute of it. Can’t wait to get back out.

October 15-16. This was rated hard and I agree. We hiked half a day stayed the night just after the “Cheesecake Factory “ water source but just before Tray Mountain shelter (we knew the shelter was going to be full, and wanted some peacefulness) we had a beautiful view. Watched the sunrise the next morning from our tent. I can’t say enough about this spot. Then hiked out. It was a great hike to test and challenge yourself.

Ps. If anyone could share WHY that water source is called “the Cheesecake Factory” please do.

Awesome trail with plenty to see and ample water sources.

Great trail. Going out was somewhat of a slight incline. The rough rocky switchbacks were a challenge. Especially coming back. Ugh! Plenty of camping spots. It rained on our way beck and boy does the trail get flooded. But it is all good.

I completed the trail on Oct 3, 2018. Some challenging ascend in certain sections but overall it was a good work out with some beautiful views. After multiple hikers asked me for wasp nest , I was eventually got stung by one and it hurt and last few days but its all part of the wilderness experience.
Since it was a week day, the trail was not crowded at all. I came across maybe 10 hikers and one gentleman who was there to maintain the trail.

The hike was great. We arrived around 9:00 a.m. Not too many people there until we hiked back. The view was spectacular! Would do it again

Great trail with beautiful views. We stared at the Unicoi Gap trailhead next to the App Trail sign and logged 11.6 miles out and back.

This was an amazing yet strenuous hike. Springer Mountain was a little treacherous due to the rocks being wet but still it was an incredible hike. We loved every moment of it and this was the beginning of our AT adventure so we are loving it so far!

We loved this hike! Definitely a workout but we worth it! We went past preachers rock and there was another stunning view. We hiked about four miles in and then four miles back. Well worth the hike.

Agree with other reviews...moderate hike, decent workout, KILLER view.
