Hiked a total of 3.8 miles so we went just a short way past Preacher's Rock. Not a hard hike at all and I will definitely do it again.

I've been away from hiking for a few years but I've recently retired and moved to the north Georgia mountains and plan to do a lot more hiking now. This hike is my first Georgia peak in the Georgia 4000 Challenge. It was a pretty easy summit, trail to the top and only 2 miles (one way). Trip reports indicate great views, and there were some, but I would recommend this mountain in the fall for the colors or in the winter for the best views. We started at the state maintained parking lot, 1/4 mile north of Mountain Crossings. The way up starts on Byron Reese Trail. There is a plaque with a poem from Bryon near the start, but I think Mr. Reese is more famous for his peanut butter cups than his poetry :-). The Bryon Reese Trail connects to the white blazed Appalachian Trail about 7/10th of mile up the mountain and you can just follow the AT to the top. You'll see a USGS Benchmark in a rock at the top.

Great trail if you are getting back into mountain biking or a beginner. Could be maintained little better, very few people on trail. Definitely worth the ride!

We love this hike on the AT. Short hike with just enough incline to work up a sweat. Go during the week to avoid the crowds. Amazing view from the top. 5 months pregnant and completed the hike with no issues. Prettier views than Ramrock mountain. No stream crossings. Some switchbacks near the summit. Great place to bring visiting family or friends. Will definitely return.

Let me start with this- I’m from FLAT, south Florida. I kicked my own butt on this trail. I was out about 2-3 miles and quit! Loll. It’s tough. It was rainy and wet, which didn’t help with traction, especially on the very steep parts. I will say that it was absolutely beautiful though.

We love this place!!!❤️❤️❤️

Pretty easy hike to Preacher Rock. Good for all skill levels with a rewarding view! Will definitely do it again around fall.

This trail was the first trail that I ever went on; it made me fall in love with hiking.

Really fun short hike with great views and nice shade on the way up. Strenuous for folks in my crew that aren't avid hikers, but luckily the hike back down is a breeze. Bathrooms and parking available. Go right at the trailhead. Heavily trafficked but wasn't too bad on a Friday afternoon in the summer. A couple of great spots off to the side of preachers rock to hang a hammock and eat some lunch while still taking in the view.

Relatively easy and short hike to the overlook. Beautiful views and trail is well maintained. Dog friendly. Outhouse available in parking area.

Fun trail with a great water source at Gooch shelter.

Great trail, very rough climb on the way back. Saw a black bear around mile 4.4 so keep a look, apparently he likes to stay around those parts. Nice campsites all over the trail (obviously, it’s the AT!) Great intermediate backpacking trail.

Hiked in the rain and through the clouds and was really beautiful. 4.4 miles total if you start at the Neels Gap Store and make your way up across the street there.

Nice hike. Mostly in the shade. Better views in the fall

It was a good hike. Overlook from Preachers Rock was nice and then about a 1/4 mile further was a barely maintained trail to the right that went to another overlook.

Great trail! Good for a short one night beginner backpacking trip because the views are incredible. Phone measured 2.16 miles one way. We made a campsite near one of the overlooks a bit before the shelter and enjoyed an awesome sunset and sunrise. Saw some cool mushrooms along the trail too.

Great trail. Awesome views.

Absolutely loved the view!!! This hike is a MUST!

Great place. Steep at places, but well worth the view.

my favorite hike so far! beautiful

The hike is pretty easy and the view is lovely.

Beautiful falls

Awesome trail. At trail head take the trail to the right. Amazing canopy along the way. Dog friendly. Amazing views at the top! Well worth it! Will do this again!

Great trail and view. we took our dog and she enjoyed it too. I would suggest getting there early if you plan on hiking during a nice weekend day as the parking area was full by 1130am yesterday.

I started at the top of the falls and made a 9 mile hike to Springer mountain parking lot, where I was picked up. I earned my Appalachian trail right of passage. seeing the first white blaze on Springer was almost a spiritual experience.
