Great weather yesterday at Chasm Lake! micro spikes from trailhead to lake and I was glad to have my ice axe for the last half mile. Be careful and enjoy!

Broke a new trail past the ridge to the lake after the most recent snow. Definitely slick and exposed, but manageable with microspikes. Beautiful winter hike!

Great day out. Very few people, but trail was well packed. Boots and microspikes all the way to the lake, but snowshoes to cross the lake as the margins are pretty wet and soft.

A must do

Snow packed, great trail to upper lake. Traction was ideal, snowshoes not necessary at all. Clocked 9.9m, 2100’.

Want to test your new microspikes out? This is a great hike. Hard because it ends with an incline. Strava mapping wasn't as great at calculating the distance/elevation gain- was more than 2 miles off (said we hike 11.2 versus the listed 8.7). Enjoy!

Hiked this trail in mid-September. Probably my most favorite trail ever. Well worth the scramble up the waterfall. Spectacular lakes set in a backdrop of towering mountains. And the colors were amazing. Definitely worth the effort to get there. Make sure to take the time to stop and enjoy the many views.

Lovely conditions on 1/5/19 - snow covering 95% of trail to upper Chicago lake. Most of trail has packed snow, due to heavy use, but adequate to snowshoe, which we did for part, but using micro spikes was ideal due to rocky trail (particularly, the type that have crampons - I use Hillsound, rather than little yaktracks). I snowshoed on the lower reservoir lake surface, which looked to be solid ice. However, use caution...

If you have bad knees, I would advise avoiding this trail. It is extremely rocky after the initial part. The elevation gain is about 1000 feet, and so it was slow going for me. Also, there were a lot of mountain bikers that I had to yield to. But this is a good challenge with the elevation and rockiness. I went about 3 miles in, so all of the Wapiti Trail and the west side of the loop up to the highest point before going back. There is decent shade after the initial rise, but not many good views.

Completed on 1/1/19. Used snowshoes but the trail was packed down enough that you could get away with just microspikes. Parking lot is full of deep snow so parking is pretty limited at the moment.

Great hike overall. Brought snowshoes in anticipation of a lot of snow but micro spikes worked well since the trail was packed snow. Definitely coming back this summer.

Classic hike. GREAT views towards the top - bit of a grind on the way. Bit of scrambling to get to the lake shore.

One of my favorites. Go in late Spring to see Columbine Falls at its finest.

One of the best in the park.

As of yesterday the road was snowy but not slick all the way to the trail head. It was 3° when I started at almost 11am but warmed up to about 18° by the time I turned back to the car. The path is well worn and easy to follow, which is good because my downloaded Alltrails map never works here. Spikes are a must and snowshoes will be needed if you want to make the last 1 to 2 miles. It was beautiful and I only saw two cross-country skiers as I got back to the trail head. The restrooms are open but have frozen pee on the seat.

Hiked Breck to Frisco in about 4-1/2 hrs. Easy to follow trail that was pretty well packed. Didn’t need snow shoes. Not a hard hike.

Trail was snowpacked from the start. Wore microspikes that did fine. Hiked two miles in and the trail was easy to follow. Didn't get any views but would hike it again to see what the end of the trail has to offer. Road to trailhead was mostly clear of snow except for the last quarter mile or so. One hour from north Denver. Definitely recommend for a nice day hike in the winter!

Undeniably one of my favorites in Rocky Mountain. Typically pretty busy trail during the summer, and almost always a line around the waterfall climb, but doesn’t distract from the beauty at the top. One of the most fun hikes for the varying terrain and views.

One of my favorites in Rocky Mountain. Be prepared for any kind of weather any time of year, and be aware of avalanche risk on the last 1/2 mile where you have to traverse an ice field during the winter. Above tree line for a long time, so almost guaranteed to run into heavy winds and turn around to tree line if weather looks threatening. enjoy it!

Beautiful hike, make sure to bring snowshoes and your gps in the winter time!

Loved this hike, did it last weekend with a friend. Pretty challenging, some good elevation right off the bat and then some heavy winds up above the tree line. We did about 9’5 miles even though it’s only supposed to be 8. If you are going in the winter be wary of the final .5 mile of the path, it’s pretty icy and it’s right on the edge of a cliff. We had to to turn around because of the Ice so I’d recommend spikes / poles. If there is snow it’s easy to lose the path at the top so keep that in mind when you are hiking!
Get out there and do it!

Hiked this trail only wearing my micro spikes. Great hike!!! The waterfall wasn't that bad. Windy in some spots but I did most of the hike wearing a long sleeve T shirt. Got on the trail at 10 and the lot was full so we had to drop some of are party and hitch a ride... Took about 8 seconds to get a lift. Great day.

Great weather today. Hard-packed trail all the way to Chasm Lake - no need for snowshoes (or even gaiters, although they are a nice-to-have). Used microspikes and trekking poles for the snowfield. Definitely need some sort of traction because there aren't steps kicked all the way across.

Beautiful Packed snow trails. Micro spikes came in handy. Chicago lake was amazing

Awesome trail! Started a little too late and made it nearly a mile from the end and it was getting too late and we were too tired to go any faster. Right now only need mircospikes, snowshoes don't seem necessary if you stay on the hard packed trail. Trees blocked most of the wind. Definitely will be going again!

Lyons. Limited big vistas but a nice trail. Mountain bikes.

It’s so beautiful! We went in August later in the afternoon and it wasn’t terrible crowded. We had the final 2 lakes all to ourselves. The stairs heading up to the waterfall were the worst part. Beautiful hike!

Challenging climb, but you’re rewarded with a stunning lake at the end. Listen for the hikers cheering while conquering Longs Peak above. Enjoy!
