Beautiful trails and waterfalls, great for a family hike. My kids spent a few hours splashing around in the river. What a fun day!

It was great missed a turn and ended up walking 4.5 miles.

Very enjoyable journey. Saw only one couple on the way out from 3d Gate the whole way. The Maine Bar Trail is quite steep and poorly maintained, but that short struggle is the only downside, unless you do the loop counterclockwise and have to go up it. Took the Dead Truck Trail on the way back, which added a bit of a workout before it levels off. Creeks were very pretty, even with low flows. Lots of shade, so would make a nice summertime hike, with stops along the Middle Fork.

nice views but badly marked
be sure you know where you go

Ok trip..We parked on 49 and only hiked a mile before we ended at another parking area. Signs indicated we were at the point but could continue on to Auburn Rec Staging Area (another 1.3 miles). We opted to just turn around there. Minimal climbing on this hike. It was just ok. Wished it was longer. Per my calculations it doesn’t add up to the 5 miles I thought I read it was. Non the less it was an easy lazy Sunday afternoon stroll.

Part of this trail is paved and once you get to where you see the American River it turns into a dirt/rock and rough trail at times. It also isn't market too well at all in spots. So make sure to check your phone/gps if you want to stay on the trail.

It's the beautiful place. Highly reccomend! Awesome place for family, horses riders, bicycles. There are a lot of trails there. So you can choose if it will be easy or not. There is waterfall what makes this place better. Reccomend

Whew. What a nice hike. Took the longer route and hiked thu the ranch. For a first timer at Rancho Seco I was pleased to see the path marked with Orange painted rocks.

nice moderate hike even though it says no dogs the dogs were everywhere very slippery near falls from mist nice hike

Definitely a moderate to hard hike. Saw a lot of bear droppings some fresher than others so I would definitely recommend not doing this hike on your own. Phone gps map helped to stay on the correct trail. The posted signs can be a little confusing. Overall, beautiful and worth while. Great workout.

Easy, mostly wooded trail running along creek with great view of waterfall from nicely built overlooking deck at far end of loop.

We hiked this last April and it was gorgeous. At the time lots of poison oak and the trails were washed out on lower section.

Love this trail for horseback riding and hiking. Has been getting busier on the weekends with cars in the horse trailer parking.

Like many have said there are trees down on both sides of the loop, not to hard to climb over though. On the lower sections how ever one of the gorges that had a small stream running across that path got blocked debris and diverted the street down along the trail. So roughly 15 yards or so of the trail is washed out. In addition to some other erosion further along at another point that makes the trail very narrow on a pretty steep hill. If you’re thinking of doing the loop it’s advisable that you stay on the upper part.
Took about four hours to complete. Beautiful view at the end and along the way.

Went for a trail run, weather was warm, trail was perfect. There are bathrooms at the parking area and down by the river. All very clean, nice to have. Down by the water and a couple of places along the trail there are shaded sitting benches and even some picnic benches.

Decent hike. Not really worth the $10 parking fee. Most of the hike is in the shade. Lots of people

Wonderful trail with a beautiful view. It is long and is strenuous at parts. There are quite a few areas with downed trees. It took 4.5 hours with my 9 year old.

Nice trail, mostly up hill on the way in. Not many places to sit and enjoy the views, but overall it was good. Some mountain bikers, simple just keep a eye open! Have fun

It a pretty fun trail. I’m fairly new to hiking and am a pretty heavy gal so this was a great beginning trail for me. There were a few spots that were slightly challenging but overall it was a beautiful hike. I would recommend hiking down to the stream on the southwest side of the bridge and lookout point, there is a great spot to rest and chill by the creek.

Took me 4 hours to complete, counting my little break I took on the lookout by the falls. Overall, the trail loop is very pretty, nicely shaded, and well cut, however, for about half of the west section of the loop it was terribly overgrown and not well marked. The lack of trail at one point and even less markings made me a little disoriented for the last quarter of the west side of the loop. But once I got through that by climbing logs and pushing/cutting a whole bunch of branches, the falls and the eastern part of the loop back made it all worth it:)
Bring bug spray, I was also being followed by a little cloud of gnats for a lot of the time

Great hike!

Beautiful hike. I went counter clockwise. Practically all downhill to the falls with a slight grade on the way back. The view of Feather Falls and the ravine is more than worth the hike.

Beautiful views!

SEPTEMBER/2018: Awesome day to hit this trail. The weather was perfect and it wasn’t as crowded like the last time. It’s about one and a half hours out/in trip. The waterfall/dam was so beautiful and there were plenty of rainbows.

Even though it is dry in late September the waterfall was still active. There are some nice water holes to cool off in too. Good short hike, with a rough drive in. Drive out was easier since we were going uphill. Coming back in the spring!

The trailhead is annoying because there is not convenient parking. Very pretty views but trail can be very narrow and uneven at times. I would call this more moderate because you can loose your footing.

Pretty little hike (narrow trails) to Horseshoe Bar lake, an outlet from Folsom Lake. Nice little spot to take the dogs to play fetch in the water. We respect the horses and always step aside when they come along. Our dogs do not bark at them, they're used to being around these big, beautiful animals. (They go to work with my son, and walk/ruin right along side of them).

This was a pretty easy walk, mostly flat, great views of the river. Not sure if I'll do this one again just because there are a lot of mt bikers and heavy foot traffic. We typically like to hike where there's little foot traffic. We did go down a steep hill so the dogs could play in the river, which was beautiful and refreshing.

In this trail’s defense, I should’ve read the reviews more closely before starting. I’m new to hiking & very much enjoy a well groomed trail, but in good shape, so I enjoy longer, harder trails in terms of elevation. This trail was difficult for me due to the fact that in 3 instances there are downed trees that are hard to get around, especially if you have a 20lb or less pup with you. The overgrowth on this trail was difficult for me as well. Also, when you get to the fork in the trail, if you go to the left, there’s a pretty large portion that’s washed out by a creek that I would imagine would be impassable during the spring months as it would probably be flowing much higher than it was today. My little mini schanuzer Norwich terrier made it, but I did have to carry him the last half mile and strenuous portion to the falls. I wouldn’t take him again. Take lots of water! The waterfall is beautiful but we were told by others on the hike that it’s much prettier in late Oct early Nov!

Great trail. For this out-of-shape old lady it was more than moderate but still doable
