relaxing and fun trail.

Best hike I’ve done period. Great tree coverage throughout most areas - more foot traffic near bottom but once you get up and out there’s barely anyone. Note that there are some complications with the trail which can make it challenging for some people. I recall one section being pretty narrow to walk on and had to be very careful walking that section with my dog since it was a drop off to the side. Also a tree fell over the trail at one section so you have to climb over the trunk. beautiful peak at the top!

God forbid there happens to be a single drop of rain. They close the trail?!?! Seriously?

It was just me and my dog on the trail.

A bit rainy when we started which made it muddy but it quickly cleared up as soon as the sun came out. highly recommend checking the weather beforehand and putting on high sole sneakers if it's rainy. The top was amazing with a view of the coast and surrounding city. Highly recommend!

We couldn’t get to the parking lot because the area was blocked off, so we parked in the residential neighborhood 3 miles below the trailhead and hiked up. Sturtevant falls was beautiful! It’s only about 2 miles from the trailhead. Would be great to visit in spring after it’s rained a little bit. We combined this hike with a visit to Hermit Falls (which was another 1.5 miles or so from the trailhead). Total round trip was about 13 miles. Nice and shady hike at this time of year, but be careful when visiting the falls because the rocks are slippery.

Creds: AllTrails Pro for accurate GPS real time location and mileage. 7.3 mi. 1,260’ El Gain. Went clockwise for both loops. First loop trail closed half way through, had to back track / go around (reason why mileage more then 5.7 planned).

Aside from closed section, rest of trails in great condition.

3 stars for terrible parking. Park only has slots for about 10 cars. Street parking ‘permit only’. Easy to miss. So I pay $1,000 dollars in city taxes a year to live here and people who live right next to park managed to get rid of public parking on this wide street I helped pay for. Wow. Amazing to me people buy a house next to park entrance and get upset when people park there?!?!

Beautiful hike with gorgeous views of Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, and lots of whales.

Watching Old Faithful from the side or back away from the small winter crowd was surreal, allows you to feel and hear the geyser. Pretty stream and access to many more thermal features. Yellowstone is awesome in the winter!

Gotta find the sweet spot to take a photo worthy picture but it’s was a good hike!

The front gate is closed, so just walk around it.

I completed this hike on 1/7/18. The extra walk made this an over 21 mile hike. We got to the summit at sunset and descended in the dark with headlamps. From the parking to the trailhead is about 3.5 miles of steep incline on asphalt, don’t let that ruin your day #OptOutside.

This trail is very well maintained. We saw deer, salamanders, and a mountain lion.

The second half of the loop had a few fallen down trees so just expect to hop over them. The wildlife is extra wild from the closure, so be prepared to see some animals and to know what to do when you come face to face.

Be aware of the change of temperature from the trailhead to the summit. There is snow on the summit.

We saw no other people up there so be careful and bring a buddy Incase of emergency. Have a plan.

The vertical climb gets pretty intense towards the end after Sturtavent Camp, especially with how bad that first 3.5 miles blows your legs out, but we did it, so you can do it. You got this!

My buddy’s Garmin GPS clocked us at 21.35 total miles and 5,482 feet in elevation gain for the day.

My favorite trail because of all the trees and waterfalls.

Nice view. Please take water with u

It’s called Windy Gap for a reason! Super windy and chilly at the top, but such a nice view at the top. The trail head starts inside Crystal Lake Campground and you need a parking pass. We hiked to the top of windy gap then to Little Jimmy Campground for lunch, it was wonderful.

Hike was great, trail was really easy.
Luckily there was a lot of areas with snow, areas to rest, areas to take good photos.
Good view of the south side of the lake, could see the mountain, which looked amazing with snow.

Nice hike and views. Be aware on the Rabbit Hole section of the loop there are some very steep portions and dangerous loose rocks.

fun trail to hike solo or with the dog(s). Couple of things to note- not much shade and can be pretty rocky. Be sure to bring plenty of water and if an older dog consider their paws/joints. overall a lovely hike with great ocean views

Kind of anti-climactic at the end just going to the saddle, but overall a really great hike and lovely views along the way.

Hiked all the way down . So hiking back up was the challenge. We had to do this to get the full experience rather than just doing the 2.7 miles. Overall it was a very good one. There are two toilets only and gross! so make sure you have unloaded before you start

Very easy walk paths with a couple of tangents to the rocky beach. The lighthouse is only open to the public on the 2nd Saturday of the month, if you plan to visit inside. Great trail for dogs (on 6ft max leash) as there is a water fountain at the half way point

I have been wanting to do this hike for quite some time now, we got the chance to do it over the thanksgiving holiday, and when we got to the top my boyfriend proposed! This is a fun little hike with AMAZING views of Big Bear and the lake. Only compliant is it was very heavily trafficked, but it was a holiday weekend.

Easy/mod. Beautiful views

Closed due to government shutdown and water contamination. Come on Democrats, it's only pocket change. Love this trail

Amazing views! A little icy but manageable.

Omg!! The views!!! Amazing! Definitely doing this again. So many trails to choose from. Easy to hard. Love it!

there is a massive hill u walk down that winds down to a area that leads down to where they have the cutest somewhat underground cabins. the trail is super easy. the areas with the trail with the cabins looks like something you would see out of a movie. it was a small trickle of a waterfall. technically not even a waterfall. it's like only a run of water down the side of the rockwall. prepare yourself for that hill back up. you will def be huffing and puffing..

It’s closed today- super bummed. Drove long way to get here. Been before and it’s awesome
