Love this HARD hike but FYI the trail is closed for August due to high heat! We showed up at 6 am with tons of water and found closed sign and had to divert to mission trails. Def hike when cooler!

Nice hike, but can get very crowded. I have done this hike twice, both on weekdays mornings with a 7:30 start time. No line at the rock either time. By the time we started back down there were quite a few people on the trail. It's basically uphill all the way to the top but worth it for that cool photo. It's definitely not a casual stroll, so be prepared for a workout.

This was a great hike. A good workout but not too hard. It feels way out there but really just a few minutes off the freeway. Pay close attention to the trail markers to stay on the 10 mile loop. We got lost the first time we did this and ended up hiking a total of 14 miles because we had taken a wrong turn at some point.

Good work out on a consistent uphill slope all the way to the top. Coming down is tough on knees and toes. But , it is all worth it! Good view and yes, the special Potato Chip rock!

Really enjoyed this trail. Agree with other reviewers that it’s a more moderate hike, though there are a couple of steep parts. Also it’s closer to 7 miles. It’s a very quiet trail, I only saw 2 other people the whole time. This is surprising, now having done it, because it’s not that difficult, only an hour outside of San Diego, and mostly a gorgeous hike. The first 1-1.5 miles are a little boring, but once you get to the saddle and junction of multiple trails, it’s pretty to the summit. I was surprised at how green the landscape was in August. The view from the top is spectacular. I did have a slightly weird feeling at times, especially in the beginning/end portion, mostly along the service road and right around the junction for the Espinosa Trail. Maybe because of the oak trees, maybe because there are a couple of shacks back there, maybe because I was alone... or maybe because Corte Madera is supposedly haunted! Who can say. It’s a cool hike, definitely recommend.

This hike was okay. The views from the peak were nice but the trail itself wasn't very pretty. Lots of overgrowth. Steady climb the whole way, nothing very steep and few flat parts. Thought we would escape the heat but it wasn't the case. Very little shade but nice breeze towards the top. Not a hike we would do again and again.

hard walk, dont try this trail un the Summer, no river, no waterfall

For a continuous moderately paced hike, you can make it up to the summit in 1 hour. If you start right before 7 the mountain will shade you up until the last mile of the hike. Between 2- 1 1/2 mile point from the summit there seems to be an endless set of steps that are pretty challenging. Past the potato chip rock there is not much else and a radio station that ruins part of the view, but overall a decent hike.

awesome trail front side I good start then move to side service road and then for extra distance use big rock,, I come here at least twice a week for cardio workout

Great trail, was packed by 9am. Ground was like stepping on marbles and feet went out from under me. Beautiful view all the way up

Good trail and easy to follow. Bring plenty of water and use sunscreen during the summer. Had my 4 kids with me (10 and under) and they were able to get to the top. It was definitely hot with minimal coverage, I’d like to do it again once it’s cooled down a bit. The views were worth the climb. The distance is a little off, it says it is 4.6 miles but we went 5.41 miles total.

Nice and easy trails, fun little hike

I hike the service road 4-5 times a week. Great hike and I love it. Amazed how much trash is left behind and people with dogs off leash. Just posted a picture of a rattlesnake I saw last week. Please leash your dog so they don’t get bitten and I better not catch anyone leaving trash.

Nice little climb, did get very hot towards the end of the morning plus very crowded.

Good hiking

fun and challenging ascent. gets really hot with minimal shade so pack plenty of water

Beautiful trails and breathtaking views!

So a buddy and I did this hike on 8/6/18. Not a good idea. Do not do this hike in the summer. Wait until it cools off. There is very little shade to stop in. And please for the love of all that is holy, bring more than 3L of water. You will run out. You will be miserable. The hike itself is intense. A lot of big hills, the top has a 360 degree view of nothing but mountains. The last few hundred feet are tough. Small trail through big rocks.

Awesome trail, friendly people along the way just enough incline to get a good workout

Did on a hot day. Bring a lot of water! worth it for the fun potato chip rock pictures!

nice easy hike. At the end of the hike there's huge rocks and boulders you can navigate through to take in the beautiful views that stonewall peak has to offer.

Great little trail! Took our 3 teens and they really enjoyed climbing they the canyon. Hidden gem in the hills of solana beach. Easy parking, trail is well marked and pet friendly up to climbing but you can turn back w your dog. Glad we took the time to check it out!

This hike makes you work for it. One hour up & 30 minutes down. I started before the sun and there were plenty of other friendly folks on the trail.

Fun, beautiful hike! We saw many coyotes and rabbits! Very scenic and lots of shade. I would definitely recommend to others who are looking for a long, somewhat challenging at times, hike!

alot of fun. the trail is supposed to be a 1 way in, 1way out. so when you get to the sign... go to the right through the canyon, not the viewpoint. unless you just want to look out from the viewpoint. when you get into the narrows, you will understand why its a 1 way trip. but alot of fun. can do it over n over.

Limited parking is available in the upper lot at the trailhead if you want to avoid a long walk up from the south lot. We arrived early on a weekday before our flight, and it wasn't overly crowded. Trail itself is easy with gorgeous views of the coastline and cliffs. You are exposed most of the time so sunscreen and hat is ideal.
