We only had a little bit of daylight left and were in the vicinity so we chose this short, beautiful trail. Only problem was you could hear the street noise (hence the 4 stars). The park service is trying to re-establish the waterfall and creek which were covered over years ago due to logging…hence the pipe that someone complained about. But we found it quite beautiful.

Was really disappointed to find that Trillium Falls was water coming out of a pipe. Wouldn’t waste your time on this if you are just traveling.

Easy trail with educational stops. Great weather.

Prairie> Big Tree>Cathedral was a great loop! I highly recommend it, easy, and beautiful trail.

Beautiful hike. I was only bummed because there was not a brochure that told us about the number.

Ferns and fallen trees make the forrst floor lush and beautiful. This is a Great trail to wander and take your time.

Great hike

Was fun because you got a tour sheet which told you where to stop and gave you a blurb.

Very flat, easy to do. Would suggest

LOVE! You have to do this! We went and there was nobody there and it was gorgeous :)

Came here on a Wednesday @2pm. becomes "off road" about 3 miles before the trail head. Unfortunately, my scion xb wouldn't make it to the head (due to "creek" more like puddle) all the way so we parked about a little over a mile before getting to the head. My friend and I didn't mind at all, it made the hike a little longer. The actual hike was beautiful, where good shoes, and take a camera. :)

This was just stunning. I highly suggest this to everyone. It wasn't a long or difficult hike/walk, and absolutely majestic.

Loved it! This has to be the most beautiful place I've ever been too! I spent a week in the Redwoods and I made sure to hit this trail twice :)

Absolutely beautiful hike. Short and easy, but the trees in the grove are an amazing sight to behold.

We started this trail by the Big Tree parking lot. We went around the Circle trail and came across this trail. It is a fairly easy trail among beautiful tall Sequoia trees. It was a rare sunny day, but the tree tops kept us mostly shaded and cool. It was an awesome hike.

If you want to mix it up from just viewing Redwood trees I’d say this is a must do. While there were footbridges in place, and well placed rocks/logs, just plan on getting your feet wet. The trail makes a loop and returns via the forest on top of the canyon but I think most people do it as an out and back through the canyon as that’s the most interesting part. It’s a bit of a drive on a winding gravel road through the trees to get here, and it’s a day use fee area (unless you have a parks pass or other), but it’s worth it for this hike and the secluded stretch of coast.

Beautiful, wild and surprise.

We passed the trailhead twice before actually finding it. It was late afternoon, around 4:30 when we started. The beginning is all downhill, it’s a pretty easy descent. You can hear the waves throughout the trail and it’s really wonderful. There are parts of the descent that are dicey, I had to watch my footing from a steep fall off. We didn’t run into anyone on the trail at all on the way down. When we got down to the beach, it was pretty misty and it added to the eerie feel. It was so secluded and quiet, with only the waves and the trees and it was thrilling yet terrifying. The way back up was a lot more challenging than I was expecting, but I didn’t seem to mind the drop offs on the ascent. Overall, despite the steep incline on the way back up, it’s a cool, short trail with rewarding views at the end. I’d probably do it again.

Amazing views, short and very sweet

Beautiful trail and a great hike. was all alone on the trail in late August. I will give warning that I ran into a black bear at the trailhead enjoying some of the black berries there. Yelling and waving my arms scared him off, but still a scary moment.

Steep initial gain to nice rolling trail among big trees! Beautiful!

Just an amazing hike with every step a picture perfect opportunity. Very family friendly but like others have mentioned, water shoes or waterproof hiking boots are a good idea. Don’t go in a hurry, and enjoy natures artwork.

Great hike. There are some hills so would not recommend for true beginner, but relatively easy overall and the scenery is continuously breathtaking. Cool breezes are a plus, too.

The ocean view from the top of Lightning Trail is outstanding, but finding the trailhead can be a challenge. The Lost Coast area is not well marked with signs. Lots of switchbacks. Fairly strenuous with elevation gain. Fair warning, don't leave much in car. Some locals don't appreciate the tourists.

Good to walk :)

coming from Ohio, it was a game changer

trail was fine. lots of traffic and the parking lot was atrocious. once you got on the trail it was fine though. self guided tour was pretty cool also. this is a super easy introductory hike. take your friends who don't hike kind of hike.

absolutely amazing trail. went in August and the water was still flowing. the hike was beautiful. didn't see a soul the whole hike. huge recommendation from me for a short hike.
