Beautiful, peaceful, flat, family friendly trail. So glad we stopped here and saw these trees.

The Rim Trail is a good hike with lots of short offshoots that give you great views. My wife and our 2 year old daughter hiked it. My daughter rode in a jogging stroller the entire length. We hiked a little over 4 miles of the trails. Very Scenic and a good hike. I know these reviews are very subjective but I gave it 3 stars because I felt the day use fee was high, which was needed to park in the park. $8. I know it's a small amount to pay for a nice hike but most other places were half as much, or free. The other reason for 3 stars was that I felt the different trails and offshoots were not marked very well on the ground. The map we were provided was great, but the signs on the trail were a little confusing and I wasn't sure much of the time where we were in the park or whether we had taken the right branch. Other than those things, it is a beautiful hike.

My wife and I hiked up trail #1 and then #8 and #9. Overall we hiked about 6.5 miles. Very beautiful and relaxing hike, some of the trail was what I would consider a moderate slope, but nothing too hard. I pushed our 2 year old daughter in a jogging stroller the entire time and there was some uphill portions that were a little strenuous but overall great hike. Saw a lot of joggers, bikers, and hikers. Worth the trip to Arcata to hike!

Easy easy easy...decent redwood action, weak waterfall

So beautiful! A must see!

Beautiful, peaceful, easy hike! Well worth the drive back to the trailhead. My husband and I did this hike at 0900 and were the only ones around. Wear waterproof shoes/sandals as your feet will get wet. They filmed a scene from The Lost World Jurassic Park here if that excites you as well.

My wife and I enjoyed this trail. The trail was being renovated about 3 miles in so our hike turned into a 6.5 mile hike. I love walking among the California Redwoods. I reserve the 5 star rating for something that blows me away but I highly recommend this trail to anyone in the area of Arcadia California.

Beautiful trail you wouldn’t know was there unless you were searching out a place for a peaceful hike.

A beautiful hike! My wife and I carried our lunch in our packs, and ate just after we got to the falls; an easy hike at that point. We decided to finish the entire 2.5 mile loop. Be warned! The last 2/3 of the hike is much more difficult, and--VERY important-- there is NO cell phone coverage in the area. I would upgrade this hike to above moderate for the entire loop; fairly easy for the hike to the falls. The Redwoods are spectacular, (better than LBJ Grove)! Oh yeah, I did not see even one Trillium; they must bloom at a different time of the year.

Short and to the point, this trail was an easy one and if you take the effort to drive up to the grove, you may as well walk the whole loop. Tons of beautiful trees and not a lot of people, as we went later in the afternoon when visitors were few and the light was perfect. Would highly recommend it if you’re in the area.

Nice trail. Went around 6pm. Was greeted in the end by a little brown bear. Really scary when hiking alone. But I calmly walked by and it didn’t come towards me. I was by bridge view the elk.

Beautiful hike! The waterfall is very small but there are endless blackberries!

Great running area!

Astoundingly beautiful, even though well trafficked. Easy, even for older, less active folks. I suggest water shoes, you'll get your ankles wet unless you can cross the shallow river/creek on a log (easily done if you have someone with you to hold your hand). So worth the drive on a very narrow, sometimes dirt road riddled with blind turns. Loved it!

amazing to hike such great sights!

More like a 5.2 mile loop with 2,000 ft elevation gain if you start at the Lightning trailhead. Lots of pretty pines and red woods on the portion leading up to the loop. Going right at the split is mostly shaded to the top. On our way back down we were thankful to have hiked up on the right and down in the sun.

Loved being able to have our pup run around beside us. Only bumped into 1 other couple the whole trail.

Great view at the top of the mountain rage and ocean!

Took Kings Peak Road (dirt road) to get to the trail head. Super fun 1-lane dirt trail. Needed to use 4-wheel drive in a couple areas due to it being pretty sandy and washed out.

Beautiful. Great short hike. Only downsides are that access is 8 miles down a bumpy dirt road, and there are a lot of people. At least 30 cars in the parking lot for a 1-mile loop hike.

Fun area! Little crowded but so worth the sites!

beautiful a must see easy hike except to get wet feet

Quick and easy, but good way to get a look at a bunch of redwoods. Weather was pleasant, trail was shady. Parking wasn’t ideal, lot was pretty consistently full but we just created our own spot.

Gorgeous fern canyon, lush and moist.
Super easy hike, try to go early or late as it tends to attract large groups and families. Well worth the crowds though. It’s a unique canyon.

$8 fee. Worth the amount of beautiful agates I found! They are everywhere! I could have easily spent half a day collecting agates but I arrived late in the afternoon as this was unplanned. The ocean views are incredible. Also saw a few sea stars :)

Hiked in the late afternoon. Lighting amongst the towering redwoods was spectacular. Very few people there at that time.

Amazing views of the big trees, ferns, and rainforest mosses. Worth your time

Interesting mostly because you are hopping on rocks and logs most of the time. Recommend wearing flip flops or wellies, not hiking shoes.

Go early and you’ll have entire trail to yourself

Beautiful trail. Much better than Founders/Machan duo. Used app GPS - about 2.6 miles total.

Beautiful trail. Lots of people recommended Mahan over this one, but there are pros and cons to both. Mahan is quieter, Founders has a great guide with accompanying plaques to learn about the amazing trees.

Easy hike, but very nice. We took the foothill trail out and joined the Cathedral trail back to the visitor’s center. We only had a short time in the forest, but I was so glad we got to hike!
