Fun trail with great views from the top.

Drive this last weekend in my stock JK rubicon. Made it 5-6 miles in before the snow became too much for the Jeep. Definitely need to come back once it melts, I only saw people with snowmobiles out there when I went so mid November is too late in the season for my Jeep.

About 3.5 miles from the summit parking lot the road turns to ice right as the Rogers Pass sign comes into view. Bring a friend and a winch or chain up if you plan on going past the gate at the bottom of the trussel. I had a fox sniffing my tires as I was writing this :)

Easy drive up to the fork where we ran into plenty of snow.

Really fun trail, not for beginners though. Lift, skid plates and rock sliders are a must, as there are lots and lots of very big rocks. The lake is very beautiful. Lockers are helpful if you are more adventurous and want to go for the harder lines, but can be completed without. This trail is also wide enough for full size trucks.

Great trail in Polaris Ranger Crew 570-4! Love the scenery (old trestles). Need off-road capability to get to end of trail (before closed tunnel).

Relaxing, scenic drive. Really easy roads that anyone should be able to do, too.

Excellent trail. A little scary going down the back of Webster pass (on your way to the start of Red Cone) as if gets a little narrow in one specific spot but other then that it was an excellent trail with some great fall colors!
We did air down which made the ride a lot smoother and a little easier in the narrower spots. Also, the water in the river was low at the beginning of the trail.
Wasn’t too crowed when we went on Saturday . I love this trail!

We drove this on a Wed. afternoon in September as a nice break from I-70 eastbound. Beautiful fall colors and maybe a dozen cars total, including hikers. Road would be slow for a low-clearance vehicle, but passable to almost all sedans, etc.

It is a beautiful hike but there are too many Jeeps on the trail. Colorado has plenty of single track trails. This trail is best left to Jeeps

Drove this trail in a stock tired old GMC Jimmy and kinda got hooked on off-roading. This trail is easy and has a few great views. About a week after this trip I did a full suspension rebuild for my Jimmy and lifted it 2.5 inches. Super excited to hit more trails.

An overall great hike. The views are absolutely incredible all around. We started about 11AM and finished a little before 3PM, taking our time. Lots of big 4x4's on the trail but easy to navigate around.

Have done Webster Pass the last two years. Numerous times. Always a good trail. Nothing too technical until you start climbing the pass. Because it is so narrow and right on the cliff side. But this pass stays open all summer and fall and part of spring. Would not recommend Red Cone unless you are hardcore and have some really good brakes. Good views and moderate wheeling.

Did this with Atvs. Parked at the parking lot before you reach the trailhead. Busy on weekends but worth the trip!

I did this trail for the second time, it was fun and I enjoy the scenery around the lake at the bottom. Somebody did come and flatten the mounds right at the end just a little bit, my vehicle didn’t even hesitate.

Amazing drive. Can be packed on weekends depending on the time. Great views and scenery throughout the whole drive.

This a nice easy drive that is mostly forested with a few Aspen groves, large granite boulders and just a few views. There are several good picnic/camping spots. Balanced Rock is a hundred yards from a left turn off at 6.5 miles. If the road is dry, most of this could be done with a high clearance 2 wheel drive and an experienced driver. The last 1.3 miles (beyond Balanced Rock) does get steep and rutted and 4WD is highly recommended and probably required to get back out. At 7.7 miles there is a gate and at 7.8 miles the road ends at a beaver pond just above the upper of two reservoirs just upstream of Palmer Lake.

Disclosure: I was on two wheels today, a Honda CRF450X.

The top of Argentine Pass might be the most spectacular view in the state of Colorado. Simply amazing. The terrain to get there is a sketchy bumpy ride. Much of the “trail” is covered with jagged rocks that vary in size from softball to basketball. These rocks move around while riding on them and therefore like to make you change direction!! My arms are a bit tired but the ride was fantastic. Stay in a low gear, keep the weight off the front tire, and muscle over the obstacles.

There is much to explore up there and many different trails to adventure down. I wasn’t lucky enough to see wildlife up there today but I can see how it’s more common that you would encounter some.

Expect high winds at the top!!!

The trail indeed ends at the top. Do NOT attempt to continue down the other side in a Jeep/truck/SUV!!!! However, there is a trail that continues down the other side that is intended for hikers and perhaps a mountain bike. Had I not been riding alone I might have attempted to continue on, but didn’t feel safe to try it alone. I’ll upload a picture or two.

Cheers and happy adventures to all.

An absolutely beautiful hike! The last mile or so was a bit tricky, just take your time and watch your step and you'll be just fine! And believe me, once you get to the top you'll completely forget what it took to get up there. I can't wait to do it again!

My favorite hike! It even beats the fourteeners I've done.

I have been off-roading and hiking on this trail and have enjoyed it very much. The trail is challenging, especially if you are hiking-watch you footing with all of those rocks!

drove up the road in a Chevy van rear wheel drive. as long as you have decent clearance you can make it. We camped and hiked up devil's thumb across the ridge and down to kings lake.

Wheeler Lake is a great hike for the morning. Start early as Trailhead parking is unpredictable (there’s not a parking lot, just various intersecting roads you can park on the edge). There’s also no Trailhead sign but it’s correctly marked on AllTrails. There’s very little tree coverage and shade on the trail so I recommend sunscreen and a hat. There’s plenty of running water and streams throughout the hike and up to the lake which is great for canine companions. Keep an eye out for vehicles (we didn’t encounter any on our way up but we started at 8am). The lake had tons of wild flowers around it and a rushing waterfall from an upper lake. We sat up there and enjoyed the views and a snack. Keep an eye out for the many marmots near the lake.

Amazing views along with some nice mix of challenging trails. good mix of high speed and slow crawling. Still, snow up high but made it to 12,500 today.

Did this hike today. Gorgeous views and worth it to get to the top. Incline to the lake is demanding with loose gravel and rocks but so beautiful at the top.

Fun drive, I brought the kids along and explored the lake. It got very sticky at the end for a short time, definitely worth more than an easy rating. My stock 03 4Runner balanced on 2 wheels and rubbed the ground a couple times.

A beautiful hike with awesome views. We spent a good chunk of time at the top just taking in the beauty of the lake and the incredible wild flowers. My husband and I are in decent shape, in our late 20s to early 30s and it took us a total of 3.5 hours. One of the most beautiful places I’ve seen and a very gratifying hike. Will do again one day.

Fun trail to go on with good views. Drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude Edition 4x4. The beginning of the trail is a little rough but evens out the further you go up. Definitely doable. Never made it to the peak due to a storm blowing in.

Beautiful! During the weekend, you’ll probably run into a large group of Jeep’s hitting radical hill.
