Really loved this trail. It was 60 and breezy and beautiful. We went on August 19, 2018. Saw a few people but very peaceful and lovely. Loved walking next to the creek the whole way!!

Great course for beginners to experience easy to moderate trails. There is just enough traffic to feel safe if you go alone, but also spaced out enough to feel like you are the only one in the world. The recording is spot on and the notes along the way help a lot. Highly recommended.

Great moderate course for beginners improving their skills. Some very technical spots and some nice easy spots. Very well balanced.

As far as scenery... very very nice. Some really cool rock formations, great views, and if you do the hardest portion of the loop to the north, you’ll get a nice view of the Air Force Academy

This is a truly fun trail. Probably my favorite one so far. The views are incredible, the scenery is phenomenal, and you could spend all day picking different routes in the area.

Great trail and there are two tough switchbacks right now before you get to the top. Dug our about 3feet in areas so you need a lift and good tires. The switchbacks are very tight so good to have a spotter. I’ve read the two switchbacks can be easy at times but not right now.

My favorite hike! It even beats the fourteeners I've done.

Lots of fun

I have been off-roading and hiking on this trail and have enjoyed it very much. The trail is challenging, especially if you are hiking-watch you footing with all of those rocks!

over the years it's got a little easier, there's still points that are challenging even with more advance drivers and built rigs. 33" tires can do the trail with a good spotter 35" tires and a locker would be advisable. great trail AMAZING views.

did the full loop. recommend some good shocks, tires and height for smoother ride lots of rocks that make it bumpy. moderate is some areas and easy in others. easy to get lost and watch your signs overall great trail! stock jku rubi

I will never get tired of this drive. I do get tired of the growing crowds though. A small inconvenience to deal with while enjoying the Colorado Gold. Heads-up. Lets practice good road and trail etiquette here, especially during leaf peeping. Many thanks from a CO native.

Great trail ride for beginners with amazing views that can be enjoyed by all! Not sure what made this a blue trail, there were a couple rough patches but have confidence factory Jeeps and 4Runners/Tacomas would make the trip without spotters. For comparison, we were in my fiancé’s lifted TRD Pro 4Runner on 285’s and did not scrape or rub anywhere, did not use spotters, and didn’t really have to pick a “safe/easy” line. She loved seeing all the pikas, marmots, and chipmunks. There are several spurs we didn’t explore sticking to the main trail mostly but we will be back to see more. I mean there were still Ice caps in August, how cool. We caught a sleet storm, so take jackets and some warmer clothes even if it’s hot before you arrive.

Hard? What is listed isn’t hard at all. Apparently you can get to harder areas to navigate but we couldn’t find them. The first part of the ride was awesome. It was super easy but the views made up for it. The last 15 mins or so were obnoxious. It was all bumpy washout. No challenge- just annoying.

Wheeler Lake is a great hike for the morning. Start early as Trailhead parking is unpredictable (there’s not a parking lot, just various intersecting roads you can park on the edge). There’s also no Trailhead sign but it’s correctly marked on AllTrails. There’s very little tree coverage and shade on the trail so I recommend sunscreen and a hat. There’s plenty of running water and streams throughout the hike and up to the lake which is great for canine companions. Keep an eye out for vehicles (we didn’t encounter any on our way up but we started at 8am). The lake had tons of wild flowers around it and a rushing waterfall from an upper lake. We sat up there and enjoyed the views and a snack. Keep an eye out for the many marmots near the lake.

Amazing views along with some nice mix of challenging trails. good mix of high speed and slow crawling. Still, snow up high but made it to 12,500 today.

Did this hike today. Gorgeous views and worth it to get to the top. Incline to the lake is demanding with loose gravel and rocks but so beautiful at the top.

Great Hike , close to Denver .
loved hiking next to creek all throughout the time.

great cascades, beaver ponds, flowers, birds, meadows

Pretty intense trail. Was doing great until we hit the steps, scraped the side of the truck a bit. All in all well worth it!

Made this trek in my 2012 Nissan Titan crew cab, pretty much stock with slightly oversized tires

Fun little loop! First time off-roading in a few years and I was in bone-stock ‘18 Wrangler 2-dr with 245’s so I think the moderate rating was pretty accurate, but on the easier side. Some tight switchbacks and a couple areas that were technical but overall we made it through without a bunch of hassle.

Great drive but I didn’t see any off road trails.

One of the top trails in Colorado

Very cool and fun. Got to finally see what my Jeep could do.

A beautiful hike with awesome views. We spent a good chunk of time at the top just taking in the beauty of the lake and the incredible wild flowers. My husband and I are in decent shape, in our late 20s to early 30s and it took us a total of 3.5 hours. One of the most beautiful places I’ve seen and a very gratifying hike. Will do again one day.

It’s a great trail if you have a vehicle built and bought for offroad driving. I went in a 4x4 Cherokee and we had to turn around and go back. There was no other cars around and no service and we almost got stuck twice. Please be careful and come prepared and it shouldn’t be a beginner driver either.

Very pretty trail on mostly open meadows. Does seem like you are walking on an off toad trail

Nice quiet hike along a creek. Opens into a meadow with nice views. Then the trail continues through a large aspen grove. We went about 2.5 miles and had to turn around due to the time.

Lots of shade, which was perfect for our pug who we brought along. We went just about 2 miles then turned around. The sound of water below was awesome and the view when you get to the open field is beautiful. We arrived at 830am in a Sunday and there were only 2 other cars in the lot. By the time we made our way back we ran into a few small groups of people and the parking lot was full (it is a small parking lot though). I’d suggest getting there early at or before 8 on a weekend if you are looking to be one of the only ones on the trail. But it did not feel overly crowded like some other hikes in the state. It was perfect!

Fun trail to go on with good views. Drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude Edition 4x4. The beginning of the trail is a little rough but evens out the further you go up. Definitely doable. Never made it to the peak due to a storm blowing in.
