I hike/run at Pedernales State Park regularly to stay in backpacking shape and for overall conditioning. I noticed some people giving one star for the Wolf Mountain Trail because it is basically a dirt road without much shade. I intentionally stay off this trail as much as possible for the same reason. However, one star is too harsh for Wolf Mountain Trail in my opinion. Use the paper map or this app and try out the other trails like Juniper Ridge and Madrone if you want woods and shade. It’s not difficult to make your own loop using the map and avoid wolf mountain. These trails are more technical and beautiful at the same time.

It was a great moderate trail! Not very many animals, terrain varied somewhat! There were bathrooms along the trail and several picnic tables! The only downside was that it was not very well marked however, the app really helped!

Cool place with great views. Main trails are very wide and easy, but there are spots where the trail crosses wide swaths of granite where the trail isn't well marked. Due to recent flooding, we were unable to hike one segment of the loop, and had to take a trail through a canyon. This trail was quite rocky and rough.

Great little hike. Wish the old sawmill was better protected and cleaned up.(spray paint...) but still very neat to see.

Excellent trail. not well maintained however.

Hiked this trail many times!! So many memories here!! Beautiful hike and just about anyone can do it!!

We went in December and it was cold but with recent rains the falls were just beautiful!!

We started this hike with a climb to the summit on the summit trail. Once we reached the top, we explored the opposite side of the rock and some of the rocks along the edge, eventually following the contour of the rock until we found a spot where we could safely make it down to the trail below.

Once we were on the trail we picked our way through the stones along a rough section of the trail until we arrived at the climbing area. From here we caught the base trail along the north side of Enchanted Rock until we hit the junction with The Turkey Pass trail We turned right and headed south with about 200 feet of additional elevation gain. This saddle between two higher points makes the perfect spot to cross back over to the south side of the rock. Once on the other side we went around Frog pond and caught the mail loop trail back to the car. Thankfully this last section had a little shade for as we finished out the hite;

Overall the majority of this hike is pretty easy with just a few locations with some elevation gain.

Nice, simple, relaxing walk through the woods to Double Lake. Found it to be well marked and well maintained. Really expected it to be more muddy after all the rain we had yesterday but trail was fine. Wish we had packed a small snack or lunch to enjoy at Double Lake. Next time!

My wife and I have been meaning to hike Purgatory Creek, so a few days after the rain, we went hiking. As everyone mentioned, traffic noise can be heard the closer you are to the trailhead but tapers off. The hike itself was OK...with a few lookouts along Dante’s Trail and wildlife, mainly deer, in the clearing along the trail. I thought it would be more scenic. Oh yeah, there’s still plenty of muddy areas and a swamp blocking Dante’s Trail close to the start. There are plenty of mosquitoes along the trail so make sure to apply generous amounts of bug juice.

We went after the rains and it was really too muddy. Will definitely return when it dries up! Easy access and pretty surroundings, too bad the highway noise is so near.

This may be the prettiest Texas trail I have ever walked. it runs alongside a beautiful creek for most of it. and the water is some of the cleanest I have seen in Texas. ive hiked in colorado so anything in texas is easy to me, but I may call this trail moderate for some. its a very fun and pretty hike. the sawmill ruin is also fascinating to see. too bad it has graffiti all over it. I plan on coming back and camping here!

Not a hiking trail. It’s a Jeep driving trail. It’s not for walks or hikes.

Nice little trail. No dramatic elevation gain and not too many people.

fun little trail and the saw Mill is cool looking

Come back again and again and we see something different each time. Deer, lizards, little grass snakes, a coral snake. Its awesome. Trail shared by hikers, dogs, runners and mountain bikers, but, its never busy. Tons of diversity. Smooth wide trail, rocky rooty trail, nothing but rocks rocks rocks trail, open meadow trail. It never gets old. Even has an overlook where you can sit for a minute and look at the trail below. The buzzards like to hang out on the overlook and glare at the hikers below. Bring water, there is no water in the park and while the majority of it is shaded a few sections are nothing but sun baked rock and in summer it gets HOT. There is a water fountain at the Hunters road entrance, and privies at both the Hunter and Craddock entrances. No benches within the park so be prepared to either find a nice rock to sit on of just be prepared to not stop moving. So.e sections have a very wilderness feel to them. Also, use this app. All the trails are marked but some intersections are marked a little weird and its easy to walk right past one if you're in a section that requires you to keep an eye on your footing.

Hiked trail in about 3 hours. Wasn't marked well at all. Loved hearing the chimes and monkeys, I think that was the highlights of the trail. Clocked 9.06 miles.

Did this trail today and I had such a good experience. Got lost once or twice due to some unclear markings but I managed. I was however the only one there. Very peaceful!

We got lost multiple times on this trail because the markings are not easy to find. We never found the end of this trail but we still had fun getting lost in the beautiful State Park.

A wonderful rush where there’s plenty of shade and a few long stretches of sun. Bring plenty of water if you’re going the whole way ! I had a good time jogging through, hope everybody else does as well

Very nice trail and very clean.

Good trail but I prefer more of the wooded trails that are off the beaten path. I found a few while hiking but I would rather do the whole trail through the trees and not on gravel roads. It was fun and a very basic trail. The trail is about 10 feet wide most of the way until you get out towards the far end of the loop. Only saw lizards and birds nothing really interesting but still had fun.

8.96 miles completed.

it's got some distance to it don't forget to take a bottle of water or two, easy to moderate with some elevation included

The park is really pretty and it wasn’t super crowded so that was nice. This trail is nice and moderate but you gotta make sure you look for the signs Bc they are weirdly placed. Bring lots of water!

got an early summer start, started at 7:30 and I was the only one on the trail
