Had so many pretty views!! A lot of incline but I enjoyed it. At the summit there was a cool notepad you can write notes to people in or sign your name with a little Saying.

This was a good trail, it was pretty easy but the hills gave me a good sweat. it was pretty hot today also in the 80s and there really isn't much shade anywhere although we did find a few spots. The terrain goes from dusty dirt to pavement, it wasn't too bad. Overall it was a good workout and there is a good view dorm the very top of the trail.

loved this hike, is a great start for beginners

A very relaxing hike. The 5 mile distance will give you a nice exercise.

For Hikers, google "Marshall Canyon Staging Area" and start from there. Alltrails' map starts off at an elementary school that's so far from the actual trail for hikers.

Looking back at the map now, it would be best to go east on Stephens Ranch Road from the staging area. We ended up going south and then hiked north. It's all down hill and little shade.

Once we arrived at the 3.5 marker (according to Alltrails' map), we went the in a counter clock wise route. This is more difficult than going in a clock wise fashion as the east side of the trail is much steeper than the west/north side. I'll know now to check out the elevation map for better planning in the future.

The east side has little to no shade. The west/north has plenty of shade.

All the creeks were on vacation, we saw zero bodies of water on this hike during this time of the year, July 29. Was hoping to find a nice shaded hike with streams of water during the heat.

Saw a few bunnies, lizards, ants and snake skins on the trail.

Started at 3pm and got back at 7pm. Got real dark at 8-820pm in the area. Gates close at sunset or 8pm.

Looking forward to coming back here in Spring time.

I have entered the trail in La Verne—around the trail’s 3.5 mile market—and have gone both directions—towards the trailhead in Claremont and the other way up the mountain. It is easy in the Claremont side, but gets progressively more challenging the other way. Around mile marker 5, the trail starts getting steep and progressively steeper. Not easy for sure. I’d say intermediate is more accurate. Also around there is shade no more! Good workout, but be prepared and know what you are getting into!!

Amazing. Couldn't believe it but I saw a bald eagle near the edge of the lake then it flew away.

Great trail! Lots of shade and a nice incline right out of the parking area. Labeled as easy but definitely Gave me A work out.

Great trail for a beginner trail runner. Nice shade and scenery and not too hilly.

Nice hike, not difficult and the oasis is cool but loses a star for the horse manure everywhere. And you have to move out of the way when horses need to pass, at times perching up on the edge of the trail. I think riders should be required to have the horse diapers on them so hikers don't have the poop obstacle course and they get to enjoy the stench instead of us... We renamed it Horsesh!t Canyon, ;)

Great refreshing hike. Escape the heat of the desert with a fun tram ride experience.

Beautiful picnic recreation area. A few places of random tarmac & 2 old road crossings. Recomend long pants & a hat as there's quite a bit of toxic poodlebush growing close to the trail & not much shade cover. Slope is a bit deceiving as it starts fairly flat and becomes more steep as you go. 1 mile in the average is about 7.5% grade.

Excellent usually but warning, closed for fire today 7/14/18 3PM

Parked at Oak Mesa Elementary School off Wheeler Ave. Access to the trail through the park over the wash bride takes you to Los Robles right, to Via De Mansion right, to Orangewood St left, trail head half ways down the block on your left. Find the trail head on Google Maps “Marshall Canyon Biking Trail”

Trail has good shade throughout first 4 miles in then it opened up. Not to technical, some loose trails closer to the the top loop. Carful on Roller Coaster Trail coming down.

this was an easy trail going out from the trailhead, coming back was more of a climb. although if you start from taquitz rd (if I remeber the street name correctly) you will be going up and than an easy down. it was a little more narrow trail in many spots, and it was warmer this day. we started at 7 am and the bugs were pretty heavy, although this was one of the hottest days of our Summer. we ended and were back home in Hemet by 11 and before we left we went to eat breakfast so it was a quick hike. have fun hiking.

Great flats and hills to practice on. Not too many people. Impossible to get lost in. Easy 5 miler.

Trails need to be marked clearer Not the worst but not the best

I went yesterday when it was pretty hot out. No shade, so bring plenty of water. I went off course a little, but quickly got back on track.
It was definitely an easy hike/run for me. The incline and loose rocks were a little challenging, but I managed to not fall. No others in the trail, so it made it peaceful, but a little scary too since I was solo! I’d definitely do this trail again. View of Ramona was beautiful.

a bit short and too close to the city but the scenery is amazing if you like creeks and rivers.

Great hike for a quick outing. Started off of Hwy 2 at the yellow gate. I hiked past Little Jimmy Trail Camp, visited Little Jimmy Spring, moved up to Windy Gap then to the summit of Mount Islip. Fantastic views from the top. Signed the book and returned the same way. I clocked about 6 miles on this route.

Excellent signage and awesome views.

Easy hike, lots of bugs don't forget your Off Spray. My kids loved it.

This is my favorite trail of all times up in the San Jacintos

Easy trail, great warm up trail, easy to follow.

Nice little hike, I just did it going down and I really like it, found a couple creeks, and wild life.

Very pretty trail, but note that the ascent is on the return as there's a steady almost unnoticeable downgrade going out from the trailhead. Trail was well-maintained, nice views, lots of ttees, and brush with cute little lizards racing through. It has a Climbers Trail offshoot that my daughter explored for a few...it looked fun and I would have joined her if I hadn't had the baby on my back. Overall nice trail, I'll do it again but earlier in the day and preferably without a mini hitchhiker. ;)

Great place for simple exercise walk or Mtb.
Coyotes. Rabbits. Squirrels. Raccoons. Snakes.
And I think I spotted a Weasel!
Ducks and Geese in the big lake.
Plenty of camping with just-upgraded sites.
Reservations needed.
Some very LOUD Peacocks in a nearby yard.
