HikingGreat!

It was fantastic! After reading other reviews I’m wondering if there are other ways in to the trailhead, we passed Burt Canyon like the directions mentioned and kept going on the dirt road. It was rocky and a little bit rough but easily handled by our fairly low to the ground small SUV. The trailhead was not marked other than a post saying ‘no motorcycles’ and a pretty obvious walking trail. Luckily we had cell service (with Verizon) & our maps app showed us we were in the general vicinity of Emma Lake so we took a chance and started walking. The trail is largely uphill and at the elevation of 9k plus it was a good hike for sure! It felt like it was longer than than 2 miles that’s listed! :) The Lake is BEAUTIFUL, we didn’t pass any other hikers the entire day and only picked up a couple of very small pieces of garbage. Great day!!

Beautiful! We saw deers, squirrels, chipmunks. If you get their early you don’t pay for parking. Early is freezing!! So take layers!. Early not many people. Later on around 8-9am lots of hikers.

September 3: Holy moly. When people say this hike is hard, it is hard!!!! The first couple miles of the hike is not too bad. The land is basically flat but then all of a sudden you see one of the waterfalls and from there it’s just ALL uphill. I definitely felt winded from the elevation. I would like to think I’m pretty athletic but this hike is out of this world. We had to take a lot of breaks heading up. When we reached lake 1, it was DEFINITELY worth it! And then we got to lake 2 and we were completely in awe!! Lake 3 was just as beautiful although the water was super shallow. We thought lake 3 would be like 2 and 1 where you can jump in, but that wasn’t the case. I actually got really bummed out. But we continued onto lake 4 (which was alright. Looks like a normal lake) and then lake 5! And I have to say lake 5 is our absolute favorite. It was so secluded and the water was amazing. We were able to jump/dive into the water with no problem! After staying there for awhile, we finally did the loop around heading to black lake and I basically felt like crying. My whole body hurt so much! But the whole hike was completely worth it!

It was a wonderful hike. You'll be greeted by tiny squirrels moving along the sides of the trail. Of course, the view of the rainbow falls, we hiked late in the afternoon, of course I did not see the rainbow but it's still amazing. People were jumping into the water as their prize once they reached the bottom part of the trail. I highly recommend this!

I’m running out of adjectives to describe my hikes of late but this one was magical. The waterfall is so gorgeous. Hike down to the bottom and cross the water (yes you will get your feet wet) and go hangout on the right of the waterfall. Bring snacks and a drink. Definitely jump in and if you’re courageous enough go all the way to drop

So gratefull I got to hike this on clear blue skies before the smoke settled in. Lake 1 was beautiful. Lake 2 is epic. A lot more blue water and breathtaking. Lake 3 is calm and tranquil with less people. We stopped at Lake 3. Make sure you take a dip in the cold water to wash away the pains and aches from the trekk up. Will be back to do a backpacking trip here for sure.

Loved every step of the way! Incline was gradual, nothing tricky, but high elevation got me a little light headed at parts. On the fence due to difficulty? C’mon, if I can do it, you can too! Countless opportunities to filter fresh, tasty mountain water - I feel it’s bad advice to “carry lots of water”, when a single bottle is plenty, as long as you have a filter. Rather, pack your favorite beer to enjoy at the lake. Spotted some 12”+ monster brown trout at Lake 1. I’ll be packing my rod next time, for sure. Definitely start before dawn. The sunrise glows on canyon face is just breathtaking, and parking at Day Use lot cuts out about a whole mile round trip. You’ll get to the lakes before everyone else. And take a dip in the lake and/or pools in the creek on the way down. Your legs will thank you for icing them!

Absolutely unreal! The views are totally worth it. The switchbacks were definitely tough, but the hike actually went by pretty fast. We started at 545am and there was barely anyone on the trail. Super awesome to let my pup off-leash for a while! She was loving her best life on this trail and many other dogs were too. Come prepared with bug spray and sunscreen. The trail was mostly shaded on the way up since we started so early, but was blazing back down midday. It took us about 3.5 hours to get to lake 2. Only spent time at lakes 1 and 2 but they were amazing! The water is freezing (no surprise there) but we saw people taking a quick dip. We headed back down and it was about a 2 hour hike back down. The trail was PACKED with people heading up as we were going back down around 1030-11. Just a warning, we were wearing our masks, but barely anyone else on the trail was. Figured it was worth mentioning for anyone who may be wary! We were finished by 1.

This was the third time I've hiked this trail. The views of the lakes and mountains never get old. Next time we'll hike further to Gem Lake.

Such a beautiful morning hike. Saw the sun coming up over the hills and some deer & fawn roaming around. Definitely get there early. We arrived by 7, still plenty of parking but on our way out around 1030 the road to the parking lot was closed and everyone had to park farther up.

The trail was honestly super fun! It isn’t long, but it’s pretty steep. We took a number of breaks on the way up to stay hydrated and acclimate to the elevation. The view from the top is amazing. This hike is a great option if you can’t get a permit to enter Yosemite but you still want to hike in.

it was great experience, short trail and full of pines trees on both sides. I went down to the one of the craters to touch the water I thought it was going to be hot but it's fresh and not as green as it looks from the distance.. but great experience.

An uphill start but overall easy, beautiful hike following a stream up to long lake. Despite the creek fire, the air quality was not too bad. We’ll definitely return to get the views without the haze.
