One of the best trails around.

This was a nice hike in the fresh snow. The tracks from the previous reviewer were already almost completely covered, but navigation wasn't too difficult. One of the bindings on my snowshoes broke, so it made for an interesting time, but I managed to semi-repair. I also saw some moose tracks. This trail definitely doesn't deserve the hard designation. I'd put it at moderate.

Tough trail for beginners. Definately a good workout. This is also a very popular trail.

It was a nice and easy hike although covered with fresh snow. This could be a bit boring in the summer because there are only Evergreens around. Ran into few people with bikes, dogs and hikers.

it's all true. rough trail, very steep and beautiful views

snowshoeing

Loved this trail, perfect for snowshoeing, especially in the fresh beautiful snow. I’d guess there was 6-7” of snow throughout the trail. Less under tree cover. We did the whole 3.1 mile loop in about 2 hours. The road was closed at Aspen Meadows road before the camp so it added a bit to the hike, but nothing we couldn’t handle. Felt like a moderate hike for my girlfriend and I, and my 10 year old dog. One person had previously tracked it out in the snow already which made it easier to find from the trailhead & route, the trail map in Pro version was also helpful for finding the trailhead. Otherwise, for an adventure seeker, I’m sure it’s not that hard to find. The tree canopy also probably helps provide some way-finding if you’re not sure which way to go. My girlfriend opted to leave her snowshoes in the car and said she didn’t miss them. She just had on waterproof winter knee-high boots. I wore snow shoes and ankle boots, forgot my gators, darn, but was also just fine. Thanks to my wool socks. Love it when there’s enough snow to finally wear my snow shoes, this is a place I will have to come back to! And we didn’t see another single sole on a snowy Veterans Day Sunday!

Great views. Lovely wildflowers. Plenty of spots to stop for rest on the steeper parts. We were at Panorama Point for sunset (driving up) earlier this week and heard a mountain lion snarling!
Keep your dogs on a leash for sure! Also, if you’re going to bag the dog poo, take the bag with you! Leaving the bagged poo defeats the purpose of cleaning up after your pet!

Nice, well maintained city trail surrounded by houses. I like that it has both concrete and gravel trails to choose from, but only in certain sections.

Lots of snow this morning! Make sure you are prepared if hiking in the snow. About half the trail I was second person then almost all of Flagstaff on the way back down was breaking trailhead. Snow ranged from 2-3" to about 8"-10" deep at points. Waterproof boots are a must. I did wear spikes but didn't really need them for the most part. Not a ton of views due to currently snowfall. But there were several spots where it was still very pretty despite minimal views. I would def do this trail again when it isn't snowing. Worth the hike for sure.

Lovely nature walk close to Denver. The view at the top is legit and would work well to satisfy the average out of town guest. No snow on the trail today.

Amazing! I agree to go clockwise like everyone else said. It was a pretty steep incline, but after that it was not bad at all. The views were absolutely stunning.

Good for a local front range trail.. some hard packed snow near panorama.

Great little hike! I did the loop and finished in about 1 hour and 45 min. I am new to hiking, so I tend to take it nice and slow! The first .5 miles is pretty steep in parts and gets your heart pumping, but then gives in to a more gradual incline until the top. Once at the top you can choose to continue on the Castle Trail that loops you back to the parking lot. This trail is shared with mountain bikes, there weren't too many on it today and everyone was courteous with passing. The parking lot was full when I got done with my hike, so glad I got there early! Good trail for the pooches too!

on Raccoon Trail

Gorgeous trail with a variety of different scenery along the way. Breathtaking landscapes, easy to follow, some decent hills to hike.

beautiful place to be! the trail is beautiful with plenty of things to see. BE AWARE: there are wildfire midigators working around the trail and in the forest. they are there M-F from 8 am to about 3:30 pm they do a good job keeping everyone in mind but just be aware if you are sondering they could probably use a heads up! currently they are over by HP.

Plan to park on the street. Hikers quickly move away from the residential area and into more natural surroundings. Maintained trail scattered with rocks, for a more rustic feel. Morning sunshine shows off the mountains the best! We saw a few people, but mostly had the trail to ourselves. Gorgeous views. Loved listening to the wind course through the Lodgepole Pines!

Easy and fun hike with the kid and the dogs.

Trail is indeed open and lovely!

it was raining at the start, so the trail was pretty slick, but a really good hike. as others mentioned, there's a bit of scrambling up some rocks about 3/4 of the way up. great views and definitely worth it.

Awesome hike. Not overwhelming hard but tough for moderately in-shape folks. Mostly climbing steps. Gorgeous view at the top.

Trail was not super tough. I would highly recommend using spikes. I did not and was fine. Just watch where you’re stepping. Though my wife did use spikes and said she felt much more comfortable coming back down. There was an incident with a dislocated hip. Not sure if it was from a fall or whatnot, but it is better to be safe than sorry. As you get further up trail you run between dry land/rocks and icy areas. The end is def worth the hike up. Just be careful!!!

Perfect for a light stroll with the pup

Awesome hike. Leg burner for sure!

It had some nice views. We went at the end of October and it was pretty cold so bring jackets. Some snow was off the trail but not on the trail. Not very difficult hike.

Beautiful trail. well maintained and not much traffic on the trail today because of the cold may be. But the parking lot is full as there are lot of trails starting at the same place. I have parked on a close by street. It snowed a bit while I was there and it was beautiful

very rocky, lots of ups and some droppffs. overall good trail and quite the workout!

sick trail

large crowds, leg burner, beautiful trail and views

Loved the hike and the variety of scenery. With the recent snow, the trail was a bit muddy in places,, but completely hikeable in tennis shoes.

Did this hike 11/2/18 and there was quite a bit of snow on the path when we first started, and it melted to muddy slush by the time we came down. It was pretty though! Would definitely do this trail again in the spring when the path is dry
