Previous reviews are accurate. There’s a boatload of slippery mud, but I went during a drier spell, so it really wasn’t too terribly bad. And there’s the tree roots. So many tree roots. I definitely felt the elevation gain at the end, but this is a doable hike. The view was gorgeous along the trail, but at the end, all I saw was fog. That being said, I’d still highly recommend this trail. Critters spotted along the way: one snake, one banana slug, and a couple chipmunks. This is one of those trails where everyone goes, so be prepared for lots of people and lots of dogs.

Nice hike. Was a bit muddy in places, so I’m glad to have done it after a dry weather stretch. Can’t imagine how slippery and messy it’ll be in the middle of the rainy season! Great views! Couple of scary drop off cliffs, so keep an eye on your kids and pups. Lots of people and dogs. Some uphill and some downhill, but overall quite manageable, even for someone in not great shape :)

Ill give this one 4 stars, but only because of the Rooty trail. Yes the trail is full of roots! But, if you persist you will be rewarded with an amazing view at the end at Falcon Point, 360 view of the ocean where you will be able to see the rock formations of the other points on either side. We stopped at Short Sands beach to dip our feet in the water and it was a perfect spot to end the hike.

Excellent hike! The roots and puddles were a bit difficult but all around an amazing hike!! So gorgeous!!!

Great hike. There’s a bit of an incline at certain points but otherwise it’s manageable. At the top is an old mansion with some great views of the City.

The muddiest trail ever. Crazy tree roots. Pretty views. Great for kids and not hard.

Challenging and rewarding hike! Coming through the thick forest to the opening on the plateau and then down into the lake made this a hike amazing! I can’t wait to share with my family and friends!

Awesome short trails. The kids loved it. Great views.

It’s a good day hike. A good hike to do with friends as an alternative to a coffee date to catch up on life. It took me a couple hours to do and it’s nice because there are bathrooms at the top

Have been going here since the 60s.
wasn't so crowded then.
funny they named the old bathrooms the Witches Castle.
Still, love this trail when not crowded.

nice trail but is not mountain biking friendly

very easy hike will great trail markings

The trail is lava and you can only walk on the roots.

My husband and I did this hike on a beautiful sunny day. The trail was easy to follow and we had no trouble completing it in sneakers. We hung out at many viewpoints and the top just soaking in the view and took the spur trail to the beach on the way back and rested by the water before heading out. Definitely worth repeating

Great hike. Long but many different terrain

Took our 7 & 4 years olds all the way to the mansion. Great hike and lots of spots for the kids to explore along the way as well as some “rest/snack” spots. My husband pushed our BOB stroller with a kiddo in it, it wasn’t easy but doable with an “off-road” stroller, if you’re in shape.

Sad how many dog poop bags are along the side of the trail, I don’t understand that ignorance. Leashed dogs are allowed, and all but a few folks complied with the leash rule.

Overall a great spot & nice trail.

I like the variety this park offers. Lots of fir, cedar, oak, ash and a few large Ponderosa pines. Ponds and creeks with wildlife. The parking lot was full but the trails didn't feel crowded.

Beautiful hike. Lucky we had a clear day got to see Mt Hood and Rainer. Good workout too.. went on Sept 2, 2018

i gave it a 3 but i think it should be more of a 3.5. For being so close in the city it is really nice. it is pretty busy on a September Saturday (not unexpected) I had to park a quarter mile from the trailhead. As there is space for only about 25cars in the lower area where you can park. The lower area is pretty through Mccleary park. This area follows a stream and had nice water features. There was however plenty of trash and it really bothered my daughter. Also as there were plenty of dogs someone couldnt be bothered to bring their crap out. I agree with the assements about the first 1.5 miles up being easy and the next 1mile being moderate.

Nice hike. Some beautiful views. Half the trail is very well maintained, the rest is roots and puddles. Went hiking on a rainy September day.

Good for a quick walk during week too crowded and structured if you’re looking for real nature. narrow paths

Beautiful views. Clearly blazed or marked. Enjoy Redwood Deck. Hills are moderate.

A fun, easy hike. Went here for a first date with my boyfriend

A pretty easy hike through old growth forest with views of the Pacific Ocean. The end point is worth it, only wished we had packed some snacks and wine to enjoy while there. Heading back we also took the short trail down to the beach and watched the surfers with the fog rolling in. Loved it!!

A beautiful trail with great views! The trail is a tad bit challenging with the number of roots crowding the path. Would highly recommend going during the summer time!

This hike is filled with beautiful views of the ocean as well as the old growth forest. The trail has several areas where the tree roots are quite dominant creating steps in some places and obstacles in others. There are several quite muddy places that require some careful navigation. The only wildlife we saw on this particular day was a couple of snakes. The hike was lovely and enough of a challenge to be satisfying without being overly taxing.

Had a nice walk, not very well marked. Made my own loop.

I would highly recommend this hike. The views over the ocean are absolutely stunning. There are some very muddy spots that are not all that easy to traverse, but it's so worth it. I saw one guy trying to go through in flip flops, which I do not recommend. Appropriate water proof footwear is almost an Oregon coast must have. Also the parking lot was overflowing when I arrived about 11am. So, go early.

Go all the way thru at the top and enjoy a beer at skyline tavern. There is a great outdoor area with horseshoes and dog friendly. Generally somewhat steep, but manageable for most, and a great reward at the top! Highly recommend.
