Did this hike a couple days ago, was great. Did it with two dogs they loved it. Only three other people logged in that day. Wasn’t too bad, took us about an hour 15 to get up and it’s a great trail to jog down.

We had a great day to hike catamount. Perfect half day hike. Agree with Elocin the last .8 is challenging. But fun.

Love this hike. Dislike the crowds.

Great hike! Lots of steep inclines. Well worth it, though, the view at the summit is amazing!

trail was nice didn't seem well traveled though plenty of sticks and leaves on trail still. suprizingly very few bugs but it was 85 degrees top is steep and Rocky and when wet very slippery great view from the top worth the pain

If you enjoy hustling up a rock scramble incline, this is the hike for you. The effort is worth the view at the summit! Fairly wide trail for most of the route. The first view is stunning, especially after staring at so much greenery for 3 miles. But don’t forget to continue in the the summit about 3-5 miles further on the yellow trail.

hike was great,as were the views, but the fire tower was locked when we reached the summit at around 430pm. I would have given it 5 stars if it was open

My husband and I did this hike on a beautiful Saturday. We started earlyish (8am) and saw about half a dozen people on our way up, about twenty at the summit, and a handful on the way down. All this to say we liked how less traveled this trail was! The first mile and a half are very easy hiking, it's the second half of the hike that really goes up up up! It took us about an hour and a half to summit. The fire tower at the top was awesome and the views were breathtaking. I would do this hike again!

A good moderate hike with a very beautiful summit.
There are many steep patches and getting down was especially difficult for me

Nice views of Lake George! A little steeper than some of the other climbs around. I took the trail over the mountain and down to Shelving rock rd. The backside is quite technical with a more narrow trail. Great way to connect to the Sleeping Beauty trails.

Breathtaking views of Lake George! This hike was difficult but doable. It gets pretty steep at some points. Will 100% do again!

first 2 miles are enjoyable with mostly hard packed dirt, roots, and occasional rocks. the last mile made me almost turn around...we had our boxer dog on leash and she needed to be lifted at times. toward the top it gets really hard to keep on trail. we missed trail to tower to find an even better lookout. on way down, we found tower. I would do this again, with more daylight to enjoy the amazing views. my app and watch said it was over 8 miles.

Got to the parking at 7:30 AM on a perfect Friday morning. I recommend the early start. By 9:30 I had the spectacular summit to myself! Loved this mountain. Definitely challenging for that last half mile. More climbing than hiking particularly at the end. 2nd of the Saranac 6 for me.

August 8, 2018: Completed Big Slide in 5.5 hours, with about 30 minutes of breaks. Parking: The trailhead at Garden Parking (off Adirondack Rd from the village of Keene) is very small. I arrived there at 9am on Tuesday and no spots available. I usually start my hikes earlier, but this time, I was driving from Ottawa the morning of. I quickly learned that if the parking is full, you are SOL. There are no other places to park, except in the village itself at a public parking, which is what I did. In addition to the 5.5 hrs, this added a good 1hour and 15 minutes. So arrive early :) Although I heard that on weekends there's a shuttle service - don't take my word for it though. The hike itself is a nice one, but tough. There is quite a bit of rock scrambling, which I personnaly like. The summit is great, but watch out for mice - one nearly got in my backpack. I didn't do the actual loop, I went right up from the three Brothers trail and came down the same. Cheers

9:30am start with a clear shot to the top on an overcast (by beautiful) day. Just pretend you’re going to spend an hour on the Stairmaster, and you’ll be fine

A lot more rock scrambling than I anticipated! I loved the views on the way up, stopping every now and then to get a snapshot, catch my breath, or drink some water. The way back feels long but is a nice break for your knees. Pay attention to the yellow arrow on a boulder after the waterfall on your way back. There's a herd trail going into the woods that we followed that's not the trail! Overall a satisfying hike! I'm an intermediate hiker and I finished in 7 hours, including about 30 min worth of breaks.

Great payoff at the top with a fire tower.

We drove up the access road - quite rough, but doable with our big SUV. Would hesitate to drive up with smaller vehicle. Beautiful walk up, steep and very slippery for the last stretch. Great views! Slippery on the way down too. Careful walking slowed us down, but a great hike overall.

First 2/3 of hike is quite easy going. Last 1/3 was a steep incline to the fire tower. Very manageable for us. We had our 11 year old son and Boston terrier with us. Would definitely do it again! Beautiful view!

I hiked Pitchoff this morning and failed. When I got almost to the top I confronted a rock wall and could not find a way around. I am pretty knowledgeable about finding trails in the Adirondacks but this one completely stumped me. I spent about 45 minutes trying to go up - no way at my age - and then around. I could see some herd paths but not a marker in site - very poor trail maintenance. In frustration I turned around and went down. It’s a pretty hike with nice views and I wish I could have finished it - I intended to go across the ridge and down to the East exit.

Beautiful hike with wonderful views of Lake George! My favorite hike in the LG area and add will never get bored of it. Beautiful hike to do in all four seasons of the year. It gets a pretty steep at some parts so may be a little challenging for beginners

This is a nice quick day hike, not difficult at all. what great views at the top just wish the tower was open.

This hike is not long or difficult but is a little challenging. Some definite climbing on rock and do not ever try hike without proper footwear especially if it’s wet. The trail can be a little confusing at times and you will really need to look for the markers. Some stepper rock climbs in the middle of the trail. The really nice thing about the hike is the sneak peak views you get of the lakes while climbing to the top. Of course the best view is saved for last and the tower is open.

The view at the top is beyond beautiful but the hike up is tough! My boyfriend and I are not avid hikers but we are athletes so we thought we would be able to do it pretty easily. Well, it took us 90 minutes to get up.. maybe more and we took a lot of water and resting breaks. The first 1.9 miles are fine but the last .5 up are hard. A lot of rocks. You need to wear hiking shoes because Nikes were not supportive and we were slipping everywhere. We got there at 7:30 and we were one of the first ones up which was special. Definitely an amazing workout and like I said, the views and the big rock up top were phenomenal!

Spectacular views from the shoulder, amazing perspective

Our new favorite trail. It’s interesting and challenging with lots of uphills and downhills to catch your breath. The views along the way were beautiful culminating in a great view from the top.

This was a difficult hike mostly up steep terrain. Coming down is slippery -bring walking sticks. I would call this more than moderate difficulty.

I hiked this today and after all the rain we had this week it was MUDDY. I slipped on a few spots, mostly on the way down so you definitely have to watch your footing. View of the lake from the top is amazing and on the loop back down the other side there are views all along the way. Took me longer than I anticipated but mostly because of the mud and having to place my feet carefully. Overall a good hike, neat to see a wind turbine at the top!

Great hike for all ages and pups as well! Very easy and short hike. Great for beginners.

Most of the trail is in direct sunlight.
