great place near Saratoga/Glens Falls to test out you winter skills before tackling the ADK

winter was in full swing, the road is not being plowed so be prepared for extra mileage. god bless the the ten people who broke the way Saturday. the old trail was not broken out and i like the switch backs on the new trail. toward the top if you leave the trail 3 feet deep. took us 5 hours up 2 hours and 10 minutes down. we met the group that maintained the trail thanks for your service. excellent day you know that you earned this one.

This was TOUGH! (Rating is accurate). My heart beat 100 miles a minute as it was all uphill! But I made it, glad I did. Had a great time with niece, nephews and neighbor! Glad I can say been there done that!

Enjoyed this winter hike, fresh snow and great views. It was a bout a 4 hour up and back. Rock was icy at the top, spikes would have been helpful. Completed on nov 11th

Hiked Thomas today and the views at the top were gorgeous. As someone who is relatively new to hiking, I found the climb to be rewarding and very acceptable to new hikers out there looking for a new challenge. The terrain was sporadically covered with snow or leaves but I wore micro spikes and would recommend them for stability and safety.

Awesome winter hike

Awesome views!!! Really bummed about the communication tower. However, it did sound like a passing helicopter, HA! It was a very nice hike, other than that. The stream is just beautiful. It was very wet today, maybe it’s not always like that, but we didn’t mind at all. We just changed socks at the top and we were all just fine. Trail was easy to follow and will be back in the summer.

Hiked on November 3rd. Absolutely beautiful trail. A couple tricky mini scrambles, that would've been less tricky if they we're as wet and slippery. Views are amazing, as expected. A bit of snow closer to the top.

This is the latest in the year that we’ve hike in the Adirondacks, leaves were down and there was a winter weather advisory for late in the afternoon. The down leaves made us slow down on the way up which was definitely a climb up and over rocks. Arriving at the pond outlet and seeing the pond reminded us of a mountain lake in Montana. The walk along the ridge and its views was spectacular. Flurries started to fall just as we started down and they accelerated into snow very quickly as we descended down the ladder. Snow and leaves slowed us down even more down the steep decent but we were glad that we didn’t have to backtrack given the weather. We’ll be back in the spring/summer. Though it was challenging and all of 4 hours it was worth it. Glad we were prepared for the weather and glad we had the app.

An exceptionally beautiful area and stunning views. The tower and summit were frozen and with ice along the upper parts of the trail on the rock scrambles, microspikes are a necessity. A great hike all around.

Great intro trail! A little wet after a rain since it follows creek beds for a while.

What a Great Hike! One steep part but lots of trees & roots to hold onto. The waterfalls along the way are Gorgeous!

Great hike on a gorgeous day after leaves have almost entirely fallen. We went up on the new trail & down on the old one. Surprised that the snow increased from a dusting at the trailhead to as much as 3" midway up, but it was sunny & calm. Made for great photos at the snow-frosted summit overlooking the brown trees & blue lakes in the surrounding plains. The fire tower had 2" wind-blown frost crystals on the edges, but was not slippery. Does anyone have a reference for the old ski trails?

Awesome hike today on this trail! As a beginner it was a bit challenging but my buddy and I got through it. It was well worth it at the summit very nice views!

My honey and I hiked this trail and enjoyed it. Very well maintained trail with a few fun rock scrambles. We will definitely hike it again in spring.

As other reviews state quite rocky and steep right from the get go. Ankle support and good tread this time of year is necessary. If you’ve hiked before it should be no problem. My husband had a hip replacement a yr ago and we made it up in an hour and 15.

Hiked on 10/24. Great hike, it was raining and then snowing so absolutely no view but great nonetheless. Took us 5 hours. Spikes needed near and on the summit.

Blue trail was easy and pretty, the yellow was fun with great views !

awesome hike and not even the easiest in October (25.10) but I did it in 5 1/2 hours.
In the beginning very beautiful view. later just snow in the air and ice on the ground.

Awesome hike . It was quite wet and muddy , fairly challenging in mid October . We hiked for about 8 hours

Great hike and great view but giving 4 stars because I don't think it was all that dog friendly towards the end. My dog and I hike a fair amount and run trails all summer too, so we are not inexperience.

It was much too cold to cross Lake Jimmy on the submerged planks so we took the nice little side trail around it. The first 40min or so were quite easy although a bit muddy. Snow appeared after that and then about 50min into the hike it got hard. Maybe the last half mile or so was scrambling up fairly steep rocks and my dog had a hard time figuring out where to go. We did make it up and I'd say it was worth it, but I'm not sure if I would do it again. Great hike! A lot of rock...I mean a lot. Would try to have a good pair of hiking boots, ankle support recommended, but it's up to you. Wind and cooler temps at the top, so I always bring an extra layer, (when hiking in the Fall, and early Spring). Don't let the elevation fool you. Good photo opportunities at the top. Good photo opportunities on the way up as well. Be safe and have a good hike! Don't forget to let someone know where you are!

Beautiful 360 view at the top. Extremely windy but so worth it. It took me around 4 hours to complete.

Great views of Lake George but the fact the fire tower has been transformed into a communication tower and the wind turbine sounds like a helicopter landing spoils the experience.

The photos that people are posting of the lake are false. That is a different hike in Keene, NY. Don't let them mislead you.

Actually icy spots on the trail today. Time to start getting the winter gear in the pack. Very enjoyable hike. Some steeps but not too long. Great views from the tower. The communication towers nearby detract from the natural beauty although it is nice to have a signal.

This is a moderate trail. Well maintained. It is quite windy on the summit. That's why it is named as Hurricane Mountain.

A good 3-hour hike that leaves time to enjoy the day. Some pretty steep spots and good footwear is a must because there is a lot bare rock and wet leaves. The wind can really howl at the top too. Rewarding view - and a climb up the fire tower is an unexpected (and a little nerve-wracking) delight. Plan roughly 1:45 up, 20-30 minutes at the top, and 45 minutes down. Expect to see plenty of others enjoying the trail.

Hiked Hadley 10/19/18, great conditions, sunny day, slightly muddy so with the mud and leaves I suggest boots or shoes with good traction. Views were great, peak leaf season, a little past peak at the top. Good mix of pines and deciduous. Nice little hike that gets your blood pumping for sure. I’m in okay shape and it took me a little over an hour to reach the top. Fire tower was open. Views are spectacular. Enjoy!

Hiked this in the misting rain about two weeks ago. My sister’s pastor recommended. A bit muddy and foggy on the way up but great scenery in spite of the fog. Made it up to the Adirondacks to catch peak leaf changes. Sat in the very humbling clouds one we reached the top. Very kind hikers along the way. Challenge, but worth it for any view.
