Trail was packed! Loved that we were able to do it with our kids. We brought our crampons and it helped!
Did last summer: enduring. Took me 8hrs to complete. Starts with following big waterfalls with lots of wet rocks. Few spots where you had to climb over a 4’ shelf. Spectacular views all across the ridge, except laffayete which was in the clouds. More views facing back at the mountain on the way down. Very crowded.
2/20/21 - Even more beautiful in the snow! Trail was packed down — skipped the poles and just went up with microspikes. The ascent is pretty stairmaster-esque but the snowy trees on the way up are beautiful and the payoff at the end is more than worth it!
Trail was well packed down. Used micro spikes and had no problem. Views at the top were amazing. Really enjoyed this!!
Gets your heart pumping on the way up. We wore microspikes and had our trekking poles the whole time which made it a lot easier. We thought we were almost there but we weren’t lol. Then finally it happened it opens up to this magical view so we sat down and took it all in. On the way back down it was a breeze and we were able to relax and enjoy the view. Have fun
Well packed snow, did it without spikes although spikes would have been helpful at times.
Packed snow all the way to the overlook midday on 2-19-21. Barebooted it up and down. Teenagers and the family dog (35lb Carolina) handled it fine, and there were some families with younger kids already at the overlook when we arrived.
The trail was hard packed from the ice and rain the day before. Thick crust that we could walk across with spikes (we wore them from start to finish!) The trail is well marked. Views for days!
Went out on Valentine’s Day with my mini Aussie. Had to park down the road 0.75 miles as it is gated in the winter for snowmobiling. The trail was well packed and easily traversed with microspikes.
Great trail conditions, packed and easy to walk on. View was amazing at the top!
Beautiful weather today! No wind or clouds. Hit the jack pot. Hiked up to shining rock with spikes on then switched to snow shoes. Changed back to spikes from little haystack to Lincoln because there were more bare rocks than snow. Switched back to snow shoes heading to Lafayette. Trail conditions are great on both falling waters and old bridle. Views of both summits are the best heading down old bridle. 9am start 4pm finish with breaks. Epic day!!
Night hiked 2-13-21. Trail is great and well packed down. Barebooted it the entire way, however spikes would have been a little helpful but are not necessary. Views were great from the top even in the dark - will definitely be back!
Did Winslow trail up and down, and snow was relatively well packed though microspikes helped. It’s a little steep on Winslow trail until a bit past the halfway marker but then it flattens out a bit. Lots of pretty views on the way up! A lovely winter hike, and dog friendly!! As a head’s up for folks who haven’t been here before— In the winter, you have to walk up the park road a little less than a mile each way to get to the trails, and there are quite a few snowmobiles when there is snow.
Absolutely beautiful views and so worth the sections of significant include. Highly recommend snow hiking it with YakTrax and poles.
Nice hike, with a spectacular view!!
Hiked 02/06. Day started our clear by skies, got cloudy in the afternoon but so pretty and worth it. Fluffy snow, mostly packed down, trees were loaded with occasional snow falling on you. I had spikes and was fine the whole way up and down without snowshoes. Very popular given the weather. Next time will definitely aim for sunrise.
Great trail, well marked, snow shoes not needed
