Nice easy trail to excercise your pets.

This was a great 4 mile hike to do with kids. They enjoyed playing around the creek and on the swinging bridge.

The suspension bridge is open, no concerns. Great walk this morning in wet, misty conditions. Even with the rain the trail wasn't very muddy. Very enjoyable.

it's not a loop as shown...it is about 3plus miles out to End of trail sign and 3 plus back. nice trail, small inclines, runs all along the lake. beautiful tree cover.

The actual rock is cool. Hike is short lived. Not worth my hour drive

Note that as of Sept 2018, the suspension bridge is closed. Probably due to concerns over erosion following Hurricane Florence. Unfortunately there is no sign mentioning this at the trail head, leading to a disappointing lack of payoff for what will end up being a 3 mile out and back.
Other than the bridge being closed, not a bad trail. I'll probably come back again in late fall/winter as the last mile in open field can be very hot.

Great place to spend a few hours. The scenery is much different than what you would expect in the middle of South Carolina. I was pleasantly surprised at the sheer size of the rock and the views from the top.
The trails were NOT clearly marked but I had some fun exploring. Make sure to take hiking shoes with good grips for the descent. Loose gravel and huge elevation drop make it tricky.
I didn't find any waterfalls but perhaps it was too dry? One more reason to go back and explore even more.
The road up to the rock was mainly gravel and not dirt but all in all an awesome find and great workout.

Nice laid back walking trail. Easy for all experience levels

Great place to explore!

this trail is pretty good, nothing fancy. the marking on it is pretty decent, it's definitely hidden from the outside work (thanks all trails). the bridge is probably the best part , last time I went there some kids were playing in the Creek. no there is not any bathrooms but that's probably the biggest negative thing about it.

Nice location near UNCC, Mallard Creek Church Rd parking lot is small and could fill up fast. Review photo for upcoming work that may shut portions in the next few weeks.

We love this trail. It’s got a cool cable bridge to cross and nice treks through the woods, once you get there. It’s close to our house so that makes us like it even more.

love this trail. beautiful and secluded. have returned several times.

Bring bug spray! The loop trail is simple and easy to follow, you can’t get lost. There are lots of access points to the lake and bathrooms at the trailhead. There is a fishing pier. The path is clear with lots of tree roots. I went on a Monday around 7pm, there were about 8 other groups out on the trail and enjoying the shore line. Made it around the loop in less than 30 minutes walking at a leisurely place. Saw a few people walking dogs and fishing. There are picnic tables and grills all around the loop, and a covered pavilion at the trail head. Parking is paved with 30ish spots. A majority of the trail is flat forest ground, some paved.

Great trail! Even paths, well marked, lots of trees! How ever you can not access water for the dogs! My dog is a swimmer, she loves the water, so the only place for her to get in is at the kayak launch. The launch point is super steep, so be careful with dogs trying to get into the river.

This logged 5.42 for us on Map My Run, and once you get to the pavement take a left then right and walk thru the parking lot to get to Persimmon trail, we didn’t find it that clear once we left the woods.
We hiked on a Saturday mid afternoon and maybe passed 4 people and 1 bike, very nice trail wide enough for most of it to go side by side, love that you can see the water, a few spots to get to the water.
Will go again.

We will never come back here. My dog was bit by 3 american dog ticks and never touched any bushes. How one could choose exposure to deadly and horrific diseases in the name of leisure is completely beyond me. In addition, the trail is extremely disappointing in its length, width, scenery, and elevation gain.

Family-friendly trail with scenic views of Lake Norman

Great trail to take the family for some time outside locally to burn a few calories. A nice relaxing walk next to the river.

Seemed like a nice, well-maintained trail. Bridge is broken about .5 miles in.

My rating is for running only. Overall the loop is too short to be awesome for a run and the trails are paved. It gets crowded! However it is lovely for a leisurely stroll.

Rode the trail today and part of Clark’s Creek. Both are very nice for a relaxing causal ride.

I keep finding myself heading back to 40 acre rock, love this place. Really cool plants inhabit the vernal pools on the rock, some only peek out for a few weeks, flower, and then return to dormancy. The most recent recording I took will ensure that you see just about everything. It includes the walk around the beaver pond, rock formations, the section along the creek, and the waterfall/cave (second stopping point).

I enjoyed hiking this trail last fall with my dog. It’s an easy scenic and peaceful walk.

If you’re looking for solace this is not the trail for you. There is a lot of noise from nearby roads, boats on the lake, and LOTS of airplanes. The flight patterns go directly over a large portion of this trail. It is muddy as other reviewers have mentioned. Very tropical feeling. The plus side to this trail is the length. If you’re looking for a long walk that isn’t paved then it’s great for that. I would not consider this a scenic trail.

I was the only one around on a Monday in mid May. Bugs weren’t too bad. Looks like they’re making some additions/improvements to the trail, as I got turned around a few times. Nice and peaceful. Took about just under 2 hours to do 4.8 miles, but I was taking pictures and screwing around.
