The hike took somewhere between 3 - 4 hours. It's short, pleasant, close to the city and had a good amount of parking on a Sunday at 10am. It didn't have extraordinary views or monumental points but was lightly trafficked, calming and just an enjoyable walk.

There is a good mix of shade and sun that was perfect. The most interesting part was how shaded and quite the woods are when you get to the bottom of the hike. There were areas that sunlight couldn't penetrate at tall making it feel like an outdoor cave.

There are two ways to approach this hike: gradual descent and a steep climb or the opposite. My friends and I took the long way down and saw a lot of people walking in reverse. The ascent was a bit steep but not killer by any means. Just a nice short workout.

It was a moderate hike with beautiful panoramic views all along way. Almost entire path is shaded unless it’s midday.

A great trail! lots of variations in the terrain. the views were amazing and was perfect with some up hill and down hills. will do this one again maybe running it. 6.7 mile loop.

We parked on willow creek road and hiked up Pomo canyon and back which was awesome. We hiked up through the redwoods, through the golden valley to enjoy vistas of the ocean as we neared Shell Beach. We stopped off at the rock overlook and enjoyed some snacks before heading back the way we came. Next time we’ll check out Red Hill; it was getting close to sunset so we stayed on what we knew to ensure we hiked out with plenty of light.

The loop was 7.2 miles.
3.3 miles uphill 3.5 - 4.5 difficulty.
Next time would probably start at Purisima instead of North Ridge.
3.5 shade.
4 scenary.
Scale 1 to 5.

Beautiful and dry as a bone. great view over the Livermore area

Generally: easy-moderate trail, near SF in half-moon bay area with some views of the ocean, through redwood trees w some exposed ridge line, slightly less crowded than purisima loop from same trailhead
parking: free at trailhead and along road; road: paved all the way to trailhead
trail conditions: fairly well kept, wide, some trail some fireroad, not overgrown, very steep on the harkins ridge portion
scenery: some ocean views, some forest views, some redwood groves, overall decent bt not amazing

Mid level trail. Not too steep. Clean bathroom available at the beginning of the trail.

The views are okay and the incline, with hardly any shade, definitely deserves the hard rating. But I saw a lot of wildlife and the sunset was great.

Nice gradual incline to the top with a great view of the bay especially on a clear day. Saw a rattlesnake near the bottom so be careful. Make sure you get there before 830am so you can get a parking spot. Small parking if you wanted to do the incline first but if you want to go downhill first then you can drive to the top which had more parking.

Great place for horseback riding. Fire roads, and cattle trails alongside, nice easy to moderate hills for conditioning, little traffic, no dogs, no bikes, roomy parking lot, and some of the cleanest porta-potties you’ve ever seen.

Beautiful views!

Well maintained, shaded trail for 85%.
Vegetation not as gorgeous like you find in forests but still nice, different.
Pretty decent ascent not hard at all.

I had hoped to do the Whitemore Gulch and Purisma Creek Loop, but felt I was running out of daylight, and so came up the Harkness trail instead. I have to say it wasn't my favorite. After an initial pretty exposed portion along the beginning of North Ridge, this dips into pleasant shady Redwoods territory. Beside the beginning of the return loop near the creek -- where I saw a beautiful banana slug in the middle of the trail -- coming up the Harkness Ridge portion really was mostly a miserable slog in the heat. It might be better clockwise as others suggest, or early morning.

A great hike with the last 1/2 mile being very tough

A full moon hike and an epic golden hour, beautiful to every extent possible. Started 4 pm from the parking lot and loop took close to 9 hrs with an hr break to catch the sunset and moonrise. Definitely must do in every season!!

Great hike, beautiful surroundings - Moderately strenuous hike

Well maintained paths and spectacular views of South Bay. Parking is tough so go early.

Hiked this to train for Yosemite Half Dome. This was an awesome training hike. Your legs get a great workout. You need at least 3 liters of water. It was a sunny but windy and cool day when we hiked and I drank about 3, so on a hot day, would have needed more. Fox tails galore on the narrow paths, so stuck to my socks and shoes.

What a view! This hike gives you a little bit of all the trail types, wide, single track, over grown brush and a nice mix of shade and no shade. The cows were overprotective of their young today and at one point, we had to find an alternate route around the cows. One even chased us for a few second as it had been spooked by someone’s else dog that was not on a leash.

Eagle View was definitely overgrown and scratchy with a steep cliff off the side. Would not want to do this trial if wet.

Only confusing part was at the intersection of Canyon View and McCorkle, go to the left of the tree to head back to the park headquarters. The path looks like it disappears due to the cow prints but it picks up right after.

We saw a group of Elk when we were leaving the park!

Will do this again!

Amazing views at the top.

Nice hike. Shaded all the way. One thing i don’t like is that it opens late; it says open and closes at sunrise and sunset, so you won’t be able to go there to see the sunrise. Bummer!

Wow, no kidding that this hike was tough! It was a bit hard to navigate at times (we used two different maps), but overall it was a great workout. During the 9 miles we only saw about 6 people, so it was pretty private. The trails are very well kept. We had a lovely picnic at the top with the lunches we had packed!

Tough for a beginner, all uphill, but a great trail!

My new favorite trail!

This is a fairly straightforward hike. The trail is well maintained and not too heavily trafficked, especially early in the morning (i.e. 7am). The ascent is very gradual to the top and not strenuous with the exception of a few sets of stairs to reach the summit. The summit gives some great views of the surrounding area and some information on the history of the area.

Overall, this is a good hike that can be done fairly quickly and offers some good views.
