spent the night no snow yet

Easy hike with great views. Go early - before 8am for least crowds, good light and a run.

Hiked this on December 1, 2018. Beautiful hike and gradual incline leading up to a gorgeous view.

This is a well maintained trail in a naturally beautiful area. It is a bit of a drive to get back into the lake, but very well worth the drive.

This is a trail I will do again.

Went at the end of November with a group. Would be slippery and more challenging in heavy rain, but today's light drizzle didn't cause any issues. We did have water running down the trail, so our shoes did get wet but not soaking wet. Beautiful trail, lightly traveled this time of year.

Stayed overnight, no snow yet, bathrooms are locked.

Beautiful hike despite winter storm warning. Lots of water running down the trail but the sun was shining when we arrived at the lake and just a brushing of snow on the mountain peak up above the lake.

Short, rigorous hike up. Worth it though as there are beautiful views at the top.

Nice hike with good view!

I hiked the trail yesterday (11/18/18). Spectacular day with bright sunshine. Snow on most of the path with ice at the water crossings. Made it in just my hiking shoes, slipped a couple of times, but made it without going down!! Great day to be in the mountains.

Tougher climb than expected but the end result was beautiful. The lake is rather low this time of year but it was cool to see everything beneath normal water level. The switchbacks were killer. Rough terrain so watch out for loose rocks, water in some areas and stumps. Had the whole place to ourselves once we reached the top.

Great hike! We enjoyed the hike. It was cold and windy. The trail wasn't too busy! Clear and beautiful! See all three mountains in the distant!

Snow and icy throughout the loop (Nov 17) but definitely worth it! I was lucky to have cloudless gorgeous weather so views were amazing. Not to steep but when hiking clockwise almost 2/3rd is climbing upwards, but overall very enjoyable and good trail. Still, took me almost 3 hours because of slippery paths and I did stop to take photos about every 5 to 10 minutes :)

I can see why this trail is so popular! On a clear day, the views are breathtaking. As we hiked, we could see Mt Baker, Rainier, Adams, and St Helens. The views only got better as we got closer to the summit.

Logistically, there's plenty of parking at the upper trailhead, as well as a bathroom. We brought our microspikes but didn't need them. I think we happened to catch the last good weekend for awhile though, so I'd definitely recommend microspikes for the next 4-5 months. It's cold and windy at the top, so would also recommend layers.

Did this hike yesterday 11/11 and there is definitely snow. I would have loved to have micro spikes with me since some of the parts are very icy and slippery. The views of mount rainier at sunset were insane. I’d highly recommend hiking this trail before the close the road.

Beautiful place to both hunt and just walk/run around. It's very easy-going to maneuver through for both experienced and inexperienced folk and a place I always enjoy visiting.

This was a great hike. Well maintained. Disappointed about the fog but an added bonus to have the ability to drive to see the view! Fog burned off on the way down, so we drove over and enjoyed the scenery!

First trail I drove my Jeep up. It was easy drive and the view was amazing!

decided yesterday was the day for me and dog to climb ellinor, boy was it fun we went winter route in summer a lot of scrambling but worth it

Breathtakingly gorgeous. Very steep climb, but there’s so much to take in, you don’t care. Make sure to take time to stop at the little offshoots/viewpoints. We only saw a few people the whole time.
Can be a bit slippery. Poles would have been helpful, but we managed just fine. Want to come back and do it again.

Did this hike 6 weeks ago from the lower trailhead in a torrential downpour. The hike was good but the visibility at the top was non existent. I must say i am so glad i did it again today (Nov 8th).Left at 8am and there was still fog in the area all the way until i reached the upper trailhead. Then the skies cleared and the weather was as perfect as it could ever be. The views at the top are astounding. I could see Rainier, Adams, Baker to the north and even St Helens. This a tough hike so you better be in shape. Its a steep incline the whole way with very few breaks. Well worth the climb though and i will continue to use it as good training ground for some of the bigger mountains.

This is a great trail to just take in views of the surrounding areas. Although there were definitely others when we went around mid morning on a Sunday, it didn’t really feel too crowded. You are definitely climbing a little but there is nothing too steep. The path is wide and even, which makes it easier. The views of the surrounding mountains and of the water are spectacular. You have many opportunities along the trail to see so many beautiful things. Would definitely do this again and definitely do it mid morning or earlier since it looked like it got cloudier as the day progressed.

A beautiful hike.

beautiful hike today! got there about 830 and only ran into one other group! took us about 2.5 hours to complete roundtrip. such amazing views and clear skies! was really cold when we got there, 30° but definitely warmed up by the time we got back down.

Intense elevation gain but a good length and the views are beautiful. Saw lots of dogs!

I would have never expected such awesome weather as this in late October at this elevation at Mount Rainier. Not a cloud in the sky. Temps under 60°. Lots and lots of nice, friendly people.

If you have ever been to the top of Chinook pass, then you're familiar with the area. It's extremely popular due to immediate access, entry and trail options.

I basically combined three easy hikes into one to make it more worthwhile. If you ever decide to do the Naches Loop trail, do it in clockwise direction so you're rewarded with stunning views of the majestic Mount Rainier towards the end!

Last 9 miles before trailhead is all gravel with potholes. My sedan made it up fine but had to drive pretty slow. Hike was difficult with poles being a must. No snow seen. Gorgeous views. Could not stay at the top as we stumbled upon a herd of mountain goats that popped up from the side of the mountain and started to quickly follow us down the trail. Other reviews stated they were friendly but to me they did not seem so as they were hot on our trail. Please be cautious and turn back if there are goats in your path! Views are amazing though!

Terrific views of majestic mountain ranges along most of the trail. Worth the 17-mile winding road up.

Easy trail to access. It’s also very well maintained!

Went up there for my birthday 10/20 and it was amazing. The weather was clear, sunny, and warm. We got there around 9:30, parking lot was filling up. By the time we came back around 12, parking lot was full and more. I don’t think we walked the whole hike as we started at the trail head and stopped at the top view point, as enough for us and we just chilled there for an hour taking photos and having lunch.
