Snow packed conditions but easily completed with hiking boots, wore my spikes on the way back down which provided better traction. Nice view at the Pass, tried to complete the Midnight Peak trail but the snow was deep so I turned around near the peak.

Easy beginner hike. Gorgeous views.

beauty of a trail. we headed up there yesterday too the "road" side first to the top, went to the fire lookout and then down the other side (jewel pass) was crazy to see the different conditions. felt like we did all 4 seasons in 1 day!! in total the hike was 16.5km

Breathtaking views from the top! Today was a beautiful day with no wind. Definitely would do again!

We hiked Tamnuska loop today (January 13, 2019). Most sections were dry. However, spikes are needed to reach its summit.

besides the wind at the begining, the conditions were great as of January 12th!

So I stopped my phone at door jam for a quick break and forgot to start it again lol.... the pics show us at the summit of Loder! Great quick hike very little snow just a bit in the trees, it is def moderate as easy scramble with great holds required. There is a bit of exposure today sucked due to high winds but nothing crazy. The summit push is actually pretty mild just walking up a bit of scree.....
if you are expecting a nice hike it will be hard expect nice scramble and follow the spine of the ridge up.

Great little hike. Easy to do with kids. Beautiful waterfall. Keep your eyes out for the troll! :)

completed this hike on January 12th. Great hiking conditions for this time of the year. Did the hike up to the fire lookout, views open up to the west if you do this extension.

I want to hike Ha Ling this weekend with the nice weather. is it actually closed or can it stil be done?

Great for a beginner!

This hike is insane. Quite scrambly at the top, so careful on a super windy day! Very difficult, had to stop many times, but great work out and beautiful hike

Worth the drive if you are visiting other places in the area.

Went earlier in January, with quite a bit of snowfall. Tracks were packed, but would recommend snowshoes. Tried part of the trail without, and sank pretty deep. Visibility was poor due to snowfall, so by the lake wasn't great. I would definitely try this trail again in the summer.

Took us about 3.5 hours, with water/ snack breaks and a short stop on the top.

Peyto Lake is worth the drive -- make sure you walk the trail to get away from the crowds at the viewpoint!

Gorgeous trail, will be trying it again when the snow melts! We made it a bit past the party summit but turned back when the slippery snowy/muddy slope hit some exposure (wayyy too dangerous for my liking). Still a beautiful hike/easy scramble up to that point -- loved it!

Easy hike with a beautiful waterfall at the end!

It was a wonderful hike, I truly enjoy the experience. Beautiful views!

Several cars were broken into at the trailhead parking lot today.

Have been hiking this for 20yrs, but this was the first time with snow and ice. Bring spikes and decent poles, some gnarly ice latches patches on the backside. Shoulder and front side were pretty clear, unfortunately very little scree left these days...

Great, pretty easy hike. Well-marked and packed down (we snowshoed but they are not really required) and protected from the elements. Did it Jan 6th so visibility wasn’t good but lots of great snow and still a pretty good view of the lake and mountains at the end. Around 3.5 hours as we took our time. Would also recommend for kids and dogs.

conditions still good as of Jan 6, could be done without spikes but a bit slippery on the way down

nice, easy trail to do with a toddler in backpack

Fun, easy walk with the family. Nice place to bring a small camp stove and make hot chocolate at the falls.

My girlfriend and I went out and did this hike in January 2019. Unfortunately we had a very snowy day which meant we didn’t get much in terms of views. However, the hike itself is pretty great. It’s a fairly gradual uphill grind on the way there, which means it’s smooth sailing on the way back down. I had snowshoes but attached them to the pack and just hiked in without any difficulty - as long as I stayed on the path. It took us 3.5 hours round trip, with a small lunch break at the top. Plenty of parking on the East side of Smith Dorrien Trail. I’d like to do this hike again in summer.

Tunnel Mountain is a short 4 km hike to an amazing viewpoint on top of the mountain overlooking the town of Banff and surrounding scenery.

The trail began from Tunnel Mountain Drive in Banff (Google Map it). It followed along long, nicely graded switchbacks along the side of the mountain through the forest. Some of the switchbacks were steeper than others and some of them leveled out which provided a chance to catch your breath. There were some glimpses of the views along the way through the trees.

The best views could be seen from the top of the mountain at the end of the trail. There were some bare rocks surrounded by forest which were perfect places to sit and admire the views overlooking Banff and the surrounding mountains and valleys. It was beautiful!

Would recommend this short hike for a good leg workout and opportunity to see great views.

Peyto Lake is a stunning, pristine and vibrantly coloured lake along the Icefields Parkway drive, that is well worth stopping for. It is located about 40 minutes north of Lake Louise. I visited here in July 2017.

This is a popular place to stop for those driving this scenic stretch of highway, so I recommend arriving earlier in the morning to beat the crowds if possible.

From the parking lot on the west side of the highway, a short paved trail led to the wooden viewing deck which provided amazing views looking out to the lake. It was an uphill climb to the lookout, which was pretty steep in some areas as it gained considerable elevation and took around 10-15 minutes to get there.

Peyto Lake is absolutely spectacular. The colour of the water was an incredible vibrant blue that didn't even look real. It was surrounded by mountains and pine forests. I enjoyed admiring the views and taking photos from this classic lookout spot.

I recommend stopping here on your drive (you only need 40 minutes or so). Truly a beautiful place to see.

Nice enjoyable walk with beautiful frozen waterfalls

Longer than the 9.9 km posted - closer to 13 km. We used snowshoes but it was a fairly well packed trail. Lots of people on the trail. Beautiful through the trees and the view at the lake is very nice! Would like to do this hike in the summer.

Not challenging enough for me personally but a beautiful walk on a sunny day in the winter. Will definitely do again.

Great hike and awesome views from the top. Definitely worth the extra hike to the fire lookout station, incredible views! If you’re short on time just do the prairie view track (go counter-clockwise along the loop) then head back down the same way. The back half of the loop was alright but quite a bit longer and a lot of just walking through the trees. Jan 4, 2019 trail was good the whole way, lots of hard pack snow but hiking boots and poles were fine, a couple spots would have been nice to have crampons/spikes but nothing too slippery.
