our first time here going up was a great cardio workout make sure and pack a light long sleeve for sunny or windy days.

The vegetation, trail, and dramatic view point are all impressive. I enjoyed this better than Devil's Slide across the canyon.

Dislike. No shade. Lots of graffiti and trash.

Beautiful hike. Difficult but worth it! Start early park closes gates strictly 5pm

Perfect to test our skills

Great trail we went with our 2.5 yo that was able to do the bulk of the trail and we we're able to carry her the rest of the way.

My first time going there. made it all the way to the top. Worth the walk, great view.

Very easy hike. Very packed on weekends. Plenty of shade. Bathrooms at trailhead were clean. Plenty of parking. The only reason for a three star rating was due to how many people were on the trail.

Nice hike, with much needed shade. Watch your step, don't be like me who talks more than pays attention to whats in front of him

The view from the top is well worth the effort! I didn’t think the trail was too difficult, but you can feel the incline and the altitude may be bothersome if you aren’t accustomed to it. Parking wasn’t an issue for me around 3:30 on a Saturday although earlier in the day, it seemed to be pretty full. I did get off trail once, but it wasn’t that far before I realized my mistake and backtracked to the correct direction.

I did this hike solo on a Tuesday and it was exactly what I needed to get away from my busy and tiresome mom life! There were maybe 15 other hikers so not crowded at all. The climb was steady but not steep. As another reviewer pointed out, there are a few places where it might be easy to miss the trail but only if you don’t have a trained eye. Just keep following the footprints!

There’s a beautiful open, flatter area with big, tall pines near the top of the ridge before you turn off for Suicide Rock. This was probably my favorite part but the entire trail is just gorgeous.

Definitely bring water, snacks, and good shoes!

Also, the ranger station in Idyllwild is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays per the sign in their window so plan ahead to get a permit. Although I was not stopped, they do make it very clear you need one.

It’s unfortunate that it was so graffitied up, but it’s a nice little treasure you wouldn’t guess to be there. We saw a pack of rams on the way in which an experience in itself.

What a great hike that has all kinds of layers and adventures to it. I did the lower east loop that goes through a bunch of epic rock formations (great for rocking climbers), the former set of hit TV show M.A.S.H, and ends with the rock pool where people gather to swim and jump off mini cliffs in the wilderness. I could only imagine how this park looks when there is actually water in the Malibu creek, it was all dried up pretty much when I went except for the rock pool area.

Most of the trail is wide and flat for the most part making it very doable yet still a great workout since it's about 6-7 miles long (roundtrip).

This hike was fantastic! I consider myself a novice hiker and found the length and altitude a bit strenuous. However, the views at the top were well worth the trip!! My husband I started the hike at the Deer Springs Trailhead at 1:08pm, made it to Suicide Rock at 3:33pm (after multiple breaks) and completed our descent at 5:18pm this past weekend. Here are few takeaways that I’d tell anyone looking to do the hike:

1. First and foremost, you’ll need a wilderness permit to complete the hike. I ran into 2 park rangers who asked for our permits (safety reasons apparently). You’ll need to stop by the ranger station in town before heading up the mountain.
2. I had a hard time locating this trail on my GPS. The easiest place to locate is the Deer Springs Trailhead that takes you to Suicide Rock. There’s free parking along the highway.
3. Wear hiking boots!! My husband completed the hike in Nikes and he was sliding everywhere. You’ll thank me later.
4. Bring enough water and snacks to get you through the hike, especially during the Summer months.
5. Don’t forget your camera because the views (and even the hike up) are stunning.

This is definitely a hike you need to complete if you’re ever in Idyllwild! Happy hiking!

great hike. We were with a Parks & Recreation guide that showed us the way to the M. It has beautiful views from the summit.

weird to see the graffiti and smokers but it's a good hike with kids.

great hike

I wish it would be longer but it’s still a nice stroll. Good place to get away and clear your head.

flat and boring. no shade.

Nice loop trail with great views. I hiked this on a Tuesday and saw only 3 other hikers. I saw several tarantulas. Not a lot of shade so early starts are best. You'll be hiking in direct sun most of the time. Best times are late Oct to spring. Great views from Monument hill, take to short trip to the summit.

Loved this hike! It had great views! Well worth the hike.

loved it! simple yet beautiful!

WAY too crowded. Too many people. Dog crap everywhere and no one picks it up. Trash and crap graffiti. People on the trail don’t have etiquette and will block the whole trail and go slow. Won’t allow others to pass. Waterfall is unimpressive.

October 22: Solo’d to the waterfall and only one wrong turn.

Easy short hike. So much graffiti.

Rocky trail; beware of taking children. Absolutely beautiful and fantastic. A must see

Really well-maintained trail, nice variety in pathways, and beautiful views. Go AS EARLY as you can get there to enjoy some sense of solitude and beautiful light along the way.

For runners, a great place to practice decision-making for when to walk up steeps and when to run- and as a bonus, BOMBING downhill fun all the way.
