Went up on a Tuesday evening. Not too difficult of a trail. My 1999 4Runner made it up no problem! Beautiful views at the top and only a few other people.

Never found it. This app sucks. Had us driving 1,5 hours from Keystone ended up on private property. Never found it. Do not trust the navigation on this app.

We went up from Breck side using a quad ATV and it was an awesome trail. Pretty rocky in several places, but on an ATV it was very easy. I don’t see how these jeeps make it. Lol but we got up to the pass and it was beautiful! We couldn’t go down on the other side because it’s highway legal vehicles only. But we took a different way down and we were rewarded with being the only ones out there and breathtaking views. However, taking GH 258 down was very very very difficult near Road 6. Like, we had to get off the 4 wheeler and take one boulder at a time. But we made it and it was a blast.

great hike. would definitely rate this as closer to difficult if you're not in shape. done in about 5.5 hours, my GPS tracked it at right around 12 miles. like most trails in rmnp, tack on an extra 1.5-2 miles from what you expect.

the lake is gorgeous and the trail is pretty well maintained (done 8/18/18). we saw about 20 elk in the meadow as soon as we entered the woods, as well as a bunch of bulls later in the day. the landslide was difficult to cross (we actually did it in the rain, i don't recommend that) but on a normal day, you should be fine if you take your time.

overall, gorgeous trail well worth the time. start early so you can enjoy. the juice is worth the squeeze.

I did this in a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Willy’s unlimited and had no issues. Beautiful at the top and there were also a lot of people up at the top.

Spent 3 days in the backcountry while camping at Timber Creek and Snowbird. Saw tons of wildlife (moose, mule deer, elk). Also made our way up Mt Ida which was very difficult for my 70 year old dad. One of our favorite hikes to get away from the crowds and enjoy RMNP. I'd highly recommend!

Not pretty, not hard. Won’t be back.

Fantastic Rocky Mountain hike . This is my first hike in this area ! I am impressed !
It was hard trail to the lake but well worth!

This drive wasn't super scary or spectacular. The ruts in the road were pretty bad. The old mining sites and dredges, as well as the semi-ghost town of Nevadaville was interesting. Basically, this is a mellower route to take from Idaho Springs to Central City.

Beautiful not to difficult to hike up to the waterfall drive up on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler made it up fine

drove up the road in a Chevy van rear wheel drive. as long as you have decent clearance you can make it. We camped and hiked up devil's thumb across the ridge and down to kings lake.

8/11/18 - Hiked this amazing trail. My Inreach Exploer tracked 14.0 miles. The trail is well marked until the last .25 miles or so. The last .25-ish mile is traversing up rocks. Very step is well worth it. Love it - lots to see along the way. Beautiful wild flowers, water falls and more. The lake is stunning. I will do this hike again for sure.

Did this trail in a stock 18 tacoma off-road with no issues. Had been there a couple weeks back but had to turn back due to my friends 09 2wd jeep commander not being able to make the rut towards the beginning of the trail, but it looks like someone has filled in one side with some rocks since then. Overall a great trail, anyone with reasonable ground clearance and 4wd should be able to do it. Only gripe is it gets really busy on the weekends

Overall great workout! Minimally crowded for a Saturday hike. Start at 4wd road 263 and continue about 2 miles until you see a brown post with “no motor vehicles” labeled on it. At this point take a left to follow the trail. From there you just continue on that trail until you hit the lake. The last 0.5mile is pretty steep but totally manageable, even for dogs! Definitely worth the work to get up there. If you go to the lake and back it is around 8.2miles, the red trail on the all trails map goes into the gulch not to the lake.

It was a nice, relatively easy drive with the family, I went up in a 4Runner with only a couple inches lift and never felt like I was close to scraping anything. Beautiful scenery. There were lots of people at the top, I counted 35 trucks up there on a Saturday around noon. I thnk calling this trail moderate is a bit much, it's slightly slightly more complicated than what I'd call easy.

I loved this trail. It was a 5/10 difficulty. It basically has two “harder” obstacles at the very beginning but once you get past those it’s great.

The only reason it gets 4 stars is because it’s extremely crowded. There are hikers walking along the road and campers everywhere. If you’re looking to “get away” this isn’t the spot for you.

I went early so there weren't too many cars on the road up. Beautiful views!

Great hike. Saw a couple trucks driving up Chihuahua road, we hiked just as fast. Water was low so no wet feet for us. Pretty views the whole way, lots of different kinds of wildflowers. Not busy!!!

Probably one of our favorite hikes ever! Beautiful trail from start to finish! Hiked on August 9, 2018.

A very scenic trail/road that follows a river most of the way up! It is a 4WD road so you may be passed by cars at times but don’t let stop you! If you drive it you miss all the beauty of the river and wildflowers (that are now in full bloom). Once to the first lake keep hiking to the top via a skinny path through the bushes to rise above the lake and see two more. This is a great place to take out of towners for epic views but you’ll need to breaks on the way up with the inclined road and steeper path to the top.

The Destination: Wonderful place for a picnic and/or camping. Beautiful serene lake at altitude. Water is too cold for recreational swimming, but good for fishing. Also, a kayak or paddle board would make for great exploring around the lake rim and up to the waterfall. The lake area doesn't offer much shade. Bring sunscreen, or a cover of some sort (umbrella, lean-to, overland-awning). Remember UV exposure hits harder up here.

The Trail: The trail is more of an access road than trail. Moderately trafficked by SUVS, Trucks, and ATV's. Hikers may not enjoy being passed by off-road vehicles (be courteous 4WD'ers). Trail is suitable for novice drivers and unmodified SUVS/Trucks with 4WD and a little ground clearance. Tire placement will be essential for stock vehicles. I would recommend 9 to 10 inches of ground clearance.

Pros: Easy to access. Great picnic spot. Open areas to play. Good easy hiking up form the loch.
Cons: Easy access (maybe too easy for preservation), Novice trails attract newer less courteous (uneducated) off-roaders and even tourist in rentals.

Ran this in my stock 4Runner with BFG KO2’s with no problem at all. Great trail lots of camping. Make sure to bring your fly rod.

Gorgeous trail!! It was lawn hike but 100% worth it!

The second gate is now open for summer 2018. Great camping spots along this off road trail that leads right up to the beautiful lake.

The views down by the lakes were incredible. The beginning of the hike is not as scenic, but was worth the wait.

Fairly easy, though rocky on the road, so just look down when you hike. All gates open. It was busy with campers. Hiked it from the 4x4 road which made the hike about 6 miles. wildflowers in abundance, might not last with all the dogs off leash, but beautiful. Go up to the 3 lakes above the lock the further up the better flowers. There is also a lions den up there, so be watchful, though with all the people, we never saw any. Get there early for calm waters and less crowds.

Does anyone know if the second gate is open yet so I can drive up to lake?

Easy enough for our first trail since putting a 4" lift to our 4d JKU with 33s.(soon to be 35s) My husband and I split up the trail so we'd each have some fun driving. This is our 4th Jeep between the two of us;first one we've lifted ourselves, so a good "trial" run to see where we want to adjust. I could see how some mud during certain times could cause some issues, but not too bad. Nice, mellow 4x4'in trail to loop around in a couple hours.

Beautiful lake. Saw Moose , Elk and deer. Caught fish. Start early to plan plenty of time at lake and avoid afternoon rain. Can RMNP please cleanup landslide... would make for a spectacular hike if landslide was mitigated. It is 11 miles.

Beautiful views and wildflowers. Challenged my lungs on the way up till opened into beautiful meadow with wildflowers and amazing views.
