2017 Map

Road to and parking lot are plowed. Trail is nicely packed, fire tower is in good condition and the views were spectacular! Enjoy!

It was great hiking on snowy trails and very beautiful view along the trail and on the top from which you can see high peak regions and snow lakes.

I climbed this trail with my bro, both equipped with snowshoes! In winter, this trail is beautiful! We took some amazing pictures! The view from the fire tower is phenomenal! It was really cold and windy up there, but it is so worth it!

Great view from the tower and a nice little cabin at the top to read up on its history! Just a few days after the storm (3-11-18 hiked) so snowshoes were a must. First time snowshoeing and I’m glad it was done on Goodnow! A couple little icy streams along the way. There was another cabin of sorts about 3/4 of the way at the top but it appeared to have mostly collapsed under the weight of recently accumulated snow.

This hike was the completion of the Tupper Lake Triad challenge (third completion, 2 X Winter, 1 X Summer). This hike is one of those best bangs for the buck kinda mountains. When ever we have friends visiting who not not regularly hike, we take them on this hike.

Hiked this today in the snow and it was a good hike. It gets steep at some spots but not too bad, definitely need micro spikes. Due to the snow, there was no visibility at the top but beautiful snow and ice crystals on the trees and fire tower. Definitely recommend.

Hiked the full loop yesterday using micro spikes. Trail is really icy on the incline/declines areas. Snow shoes would not work well. Would definitely recommend going counter clockwise. Go to Thomas first. Views are incredible. Total loop time 5.25 hours because of the icy conditions. Good weather probably 4+. Moderate workout in the winter.

Easy little hike. Part of the Tupper Lake Triad. I did the three little mountains today. Easy trail with nice views at the top. About 2.2 miles round trip. Icy conditions today. If your using crampons (I did) it is a piece of cake.

Beautiful view. Great climb. Trail was icy needed to wear spike. One of three for the day.

Did this over the weekend and it took less than 4 hours. It was a nice hike, pretty icy in some spots but fine with microspikes. My dog struggled with the ice a bit in some parts so I had to help him. Trail was fine without snow shoes, passed a few people on skis. Overall really nice time, will definitely do it again in warmer weather!

Trail is in pretty great condition but spikes are a must ! With the warm temperatures there were some very slippery spots !

this trail is a great little trail. there are so many rewards that is great for family of all ages. pets too. i love this trail. the rocks, trees, roots climbing every where. overlooks and all this before you get to the top. if you are looking for a easy fun trail this is the one. A MUST DO!!!!!!

The parking lot was like a frozen pond. all of the thick ice was covered by fresh snow so I didn't know until I tried to stop and kept going. Luckily I was able to carefully turn my car around and there was traction on the one side of the parking lot. The cell service is spotty so I don't know if I would have been able to call for a tow truck. The mountain was the same way. Some parts looked like a frozen waterfall(not a bad thing). I had ice spikes so it didn't slow me down. My dog had some trouble but it gave me a few laughs. Overall the hike was short but rewarding. The only downside was all the graffiti on the cabin and the tower. It's sad that people can't respect the property for other people to enjoy.

I snowshoed this last year after we got a huge snowstorm. The parking lot wasn’t plowed and when I got out of the truck the snow was almost to my knees. This was my very first fire tower and my first time snowshoeing up a mountain. The hike up seemed to never end. Once you reach the fire tower the wind was bizarre! I was amazed by how many surrounding towns you could see from it and there’s a nice little map in the tower to tell you. I would hike it again when there’s not so much snow.

Steep portions have turned icy with the brief thaw/freeze. Micro-spikes worked fine on the way up, switched to crampons for the descent. Enjoyable hike. Summit was bare (no snow/ice). Had the mountain to myself until the return trip when I passed 2 other hikers.

Not a very long or difficult trail by itself but hiking after a brief warm spell mid-January proved problematic. Snow was very wet and although the snow shoes did help, it didn't prevent me from post-holing. I had hiked this as a loop ascending the steeper part-descending the longer but more gradual trail. The steep ascent was quite hard to read at times in these conditions-forcing me off trail and bushwhacking at times. The mixed terrain of ice, exposed wet rock, and wet snow packing in my micro spikes rendering them basically useless proved more difficult than expected. I'm sure a summer ascent would grant some fun climbing. There was quite a bit of debris/trash I picked up from the summit. If you hike this mountain please remember to bring your chap sticks and power bar wrappers back down with you.

A very busy trail, but worth the crowds!! A steep climb here and there which makes it a fun challenge. Climb the fire tower and enjoy the wild flowers at the summit.

Have hiked this trail at least 20 times starting as a youngster. It never disappoints and views from the fire tower will are amazing!! If it’s a windy day, the tower does shake. Climb anyway!!!

Completed June 2017. Great views. Nice lunch spot at the top. Some scrambling, but very minor.

Hiked w micros after a 26 below F Sunday morning followed by couple inches of rain 48 hours before. Snow set up good for micros would need more snow for snowshoes. First time up the red east trail and down the longer looped yellow north trail. Great views from tower. Worth a couple hours on the woods on a cold mid January day.

Awesome short trail. Great view! Done this several times. On to the next. 46ers here I come

View is absolutely amazing! The hike was very very hard! Takes about 2-3 hours to go up and 1to go down! I hiked half the mountain barefoot because my shoes gave me blisters! Definitely recommended hiking shoes! Absolutely worth it! Just hard so be prepared

Always a nice mini-hike, depressing to see what vandals have done to the cabin.

Great hike hike today. Snow was not an issue as the trail was well broken in. Highly recommend this trail. Made the full loop in less than four hours. Recommend doing the loop clockwise- trail between the two peaks was the most difficult.

I left parking lot and temp was -1... I purposely did not put too many layers on as I knew the type of climb that was coming...I was cold for first 1/2 mile then was plenty warm until I reached the summit. I highly recommend snowshoes. ..especially ones with spikes and/or metal teeth.
Light snow was falling so visibility wasn't great at top...it was -10 so I wasn't wanting to linger very long anyway.
it's a fairly strenuous hike so make sure you bring ample water, even in Winter.

Great hike! It's a bit tough of hike but a good cardio workout. I was hoping to have it done in 4 hours and managed the whole 7.1 mile loop in 3 hours flat! I recommend Cat and then Thomas. Used snowshoes the whole time.

Locals were very friendly. Well marked trail. Beautiful with snow. Great adventure crossing all the frozen creeks and the two lean to’s were durable and helped keep out the wind. Outhouses were there too!

Wind chill dropped temps to below -20 at the top of the tower but clear skies and sun made for good views. Walked up the trail in regular snow boots; followed someone else's tracks. Minimal to no ice today.

We had a nice hike where we had to break the trail out right from the road to the summit. The summit was socked in but it was a nice snowshoe hike.

Hiked this Sunday to catch the sunrise. Trail was in good shape, used snowshoes the whole way. Great hike during the summer, fall or winter
