Today I have to give this hike all 5 stars. I started out at the trailhead 9:45 and arrived upper crystal lakes 12:00 I’m kind of slow but strong! I couldn’t believe the weather! 60, warm, no wind, unbelievable. Some fall colors were still out. Blue sky, sun and the lake glistened with ducks resting themselves. I was up there by myself, serene! This trail is up and up but I have a method that works for me. I take a small rest at each switchback and it worked! This trail is mostly smooth surface so if your a runner, try this out! 2,500 elevation gain your legs will grow much stronger then a track!

Completed this trail twice. Its fun with great view towards the end. Short but fun.

Went for an impromptu hike in November 2017. Very nice little hike. It's a very popular trail so it's generally very crowded.

This was a gorgeous fall hike! Took the recommendation of beginning counterclockwise and the views were spectacular! It is most definetly kid friendly! I took all 4 of mine and they had a great time. It was REALLY busy in some places, we just moved aside and let folks pass us!

Nice Sunday Hike!
Lots of people of friendly people!

We hike a ton, but this was definitely a challenge. The first 2 miles were relentless switchbacks with no downhill or even flat relief. Needless to say, our legs are sore.

As of 10/10/18 the road is open. Trail is in great shape. Wonderful fall hike.

Absolutely Beautiful! Hard incline for me since it was only my second actual hike but I did it and it was awesome. Met a few nice people too. At the top there is nice group camp site along with a well maintained bathroom. Definitely would be a great place to camp if you don't mind packing everything in and out!

I have done this hike on day. Which was very pretty but to capture the beauty one must go at sunrise. We ventured to mountain at 4 am arrived Park 5:45 and headed off we got to lookout probably 45 min to hour. It was very windy and cold when arrived lookout. We stayed up there till sunrise about 7:15 and headed down.

The stars were amazing, my rainier in the shadows was absolutely stunning of course we could not capture those pics with iPhone. Then the sunrise was stunning as it came up the reflection hitting Rainier was stunning!

I would hike to see the sunrise every year here. There was no clouds in

Great for a day hike. Views are rewarding. Fairly easy along the route. The lookout itself is at the end of the hike and looks nice from the ridge half a mile before the end of the hike. Amazing views of mount Rainier and a couple of its glaciers.

Wanting to get out to do some photography before the fall colors are completely gone and replaced with snow, I went up for a solo hike on the Naches Peak loop early Friday morning, starting at around 6:15AM to get the sunrise reflection of the mountain in the lake. The hike was beautiful, the mountain stood out clearly (as did Mt. Adams, I believe it is), and the trail was in great condition. In the morning, wildlife was visible (saw some deer, and others saw a black bear wandering, but unfortunately I missed it). As the day went on, the trail began to get much busier with people hiking, and lots of hiking with kids and dogs. The hike is very easy, but the views that you get are great. Plus, as a added bonus, it's always awesome to get up there and meet some new awesome people, which Friday was an excellent day for.

The road to Sunrise is supposed to be open for another week or two or until the first heavy snowfall. I didn't see any snow when I was there except for a light dusting on the Burroughs so the road should be good for another week or so! Definitely didn't need spikes or anything on the trail, but it's always good to pack them this time of year, just in case. Definitely dress for cold weather though. We did Fremont as a sunrise hike and made it to the lookout around 7am and it was easily below zero with the wind chill.

This is a really nice hike to a very pretty lake. Go early.

Perfect morning for this hike, parked around 8:45a with plenty to spaces left. Did the clockwise loop with our 4 year old and completed in just under 2.5hrs (with lots of snack breaks). Clear crisp day gave us lots of beautiful views.

Nice views overall. Scores high on access from the city; easy access also meant there were tons of people.

Compared to most hikes, this one is a bit boring and gets incredibly busy. Too busy. It’s like visiting an outdoor mall at Christmas. The view is nice, but there are better hikes with more to see and less people.

love ..easy hike loved the views

Great trail, Very crowded on weekends though.

Hiked a couple of weeks ago. Really beautiful hike. Great views of Rainier, wildflowers, the river, etc. Many places to stop and take beautiful pictures. Lots of wildlife too. Saw goats, plenty of marmots, and a marten. Didn't trek too much further past the camp - stopped and had a picnic on one of the big boulders instead. Highly recommend this hike but start early to beat the crowds! :)

We went on October 6 and encountered first snow! I.was glad for my hiking poles. We met hikers who went to the Gap, but we did not try it!

Great starter trail. The view is epic. Love starts here.

Beautiful drive. Fun hike and pretty views!

Always amazing. I’ve done both counter clockwise and clockwise and love both ways. As stated before, go clockwise for an easier hike. However, go counterclockwise to get the hard part out-of-the-way first.

Wonderful hike! My 8yo loved it! Even with the snow, slush and mud! Fantastic day for a hike!

Arrived to the parking lot at 0830 today and was expecting to see some autumn colors and found a winter wonderland. It was a beautiful and refreshing hike, it was just what I needed.

Easy hike with great views. Saw chipmunks, various birds and even a mountain goat!

Hiked it today to get it in before the snows come, sadly the view of the mountain was obscured by mist, and there was a very light precipitation the whole time, but it wasn't too cold and still thoroughly enjoyable. Saw just a few people and not one single mosquito.

Went at the end of July. It was a wonderful stroll with fantastic views! The wildflowers were all in bloom and the temps were favorable. There were a lot of people, many with little kids. Next time will go earlier in hopes of running into less loud families.
