I hiked this trail in mid October on a foggy-turned-sunny day with a couple friends. The views were spectacular. Mt. Rainier consumes half your view when you get to the top and St. Helens is off to the west. The hike was really easy and fast so it's a great hike for a half day instead of a full day. Also, the dirt road leading to the trail is long but wide and well kept. I took my Ford Fusion up it at 25 mph no problems.

A must do hike if you live in Washington or Seattle! Great views of greenish blue lakes break up the hike on the way up. Not a super long hike - once you hit Eunice lake, it gets steeper but not long to the top. Amazing view from the peak of Mount Rainier! Drive in gets bumpy about 45+ minutes from trail head.

When we got to the lake it was nice and sunny, but not much longer when we got to the peak the fog had come up so fast we - couldn’t see anything

We hiked the trail on a beautiful sunny day and the scenery was gorgeous. The 10+ mile gravel road is like a wash board in many areas but there are few potholes. A truck or SUV will have no trouble. A car will have a bumpy, slower trip. It took our group of three 60 year olds and two 30 year olds about 4 hours to do the round trip. We took a lot of breaks, pictures, and had lunch at the fire lookout. The rating of moderate is accurate for this trail.

Awesome hike with great views the whole time. The first part is exposed to a view of the mountains, then transitions back into rocky ranges as you make your way towards the lake. Most of the trail is an easy incline and pleasant. The last fourth of the trail to the lake is the most challenging, requiring some scrambling over rocks if you lose the easily lose-able trail. The lake is gorgeous. We went up in about 2.5 hours and down in a little under 2 hours. 5-hour trip total including the stop at the lake. The larches had already turned but still very recommended. The drive to/from Seattle is stunning.

Great hike. Easy overall with a great view! Super good for dogs!

Completed this trail on October 17th. We went for larches and goats and we saw tons of both! The trail is a moderate/hard perfectly graded the entire way! Seriously impressed on the upkeep of this trail. I will be back to do this again. No knee pain or toe crunching on the way down which makes for a perfect hike.

We lucked out with a perfect fall day to enjoy this spectacular hike. It was busy (not surprising as this is probably the last really nice weekend we will have for the year) but people and their dogs were all friendly and well-behaved (unlike at some other popular spots we have been).

Loved the variety of landscapes/scenery the entire way up and the views are hard to beat throughout. We enjoyed a lunch break at the tarns and saw a few people who set up camp alongside the water (noted for next time). As others have mentioned, the last 1/2 to 1 mile is challenging, but making it up to the lookout structure is worth it for truly panoramic views.

We arrived around 11am and found a mostly full parking lot, though still a few spots to park. Total we spent about 4-4.5 hours on the 7.5-8 mile round trip hike with about 20-30 minutes spent taking photos, enjoying lunch and the views, etc.. Definitely a challenging hike but well worth it!

Leg burning 8 mile out and back with Stunning open unobstructed up close views of Mount Baker glaciers. Surprised how Super crowded trail was on a mid October sunny weekend,
Epic glacier views and crowds rival Paradise on Mount Rainier and Bakers Artist Point over popularized PNW destinations.
At least a dozen off leash dogs made wildlife invisible.., when we finally reached the steep top of the ridge two different loose dogs made safety a concern while we were climbing on and off the precariously perched cliff top lookout. Should really make this trail dog free.

Amazing hike.
The trail is not as hard as it looks from its distance because the first 1.4 miles are flat or downhill.
Rainier view are along several points of the trail, and the view at the top is stunning.

I love hitting this trail with my dogs. Gorgeous Autumn color painted the forests. Blue waters mirror the sky. It’s heaven for me

Absolutely magnificent trail. Would highly recommend during the fall season. It took us 2+1+1.5 hrs car to car. It’s an easy hike which is kid and pet friendly. However the drive till there can be tiresome once the gravel road starts.

Today I have to give this hike all 5 stars. I started out at the trailhead 9:45 and arrived upper crystal lakes 12:00 I’m kind of slow but strong! I couldn’t believe the weather! 60, warm, no wind, unbelievable. Some fall colors were still out. Blue sky, sun and the lake glistened with ducks resting themselves. I was up there by myself, serene! This trail is up and up but I have a method that works for me. I take a small rest at each switchback and it worked! This trail is mostly smooth surface so if your a runner, try this out! 2,500 elevation gain your legs will grow much stronger then a track!

Awesome trail! It took me approx 1 hr 10 min to get to the top, got quite steep in some parts but so worth it! Hardly anybody on the trail in the morning. I ate lunch at the lookout just admiring beautiful Mt Ranier! and some birds came and tried to steal my food

Beautiful larches. Left seattle at 5.30am, trailhead at 8.15. 2.5 up. Top for 1 hour. Little over 2 down.

The views were breathtaking and Baker felt like it was right there! Great cell service with Verizon at the top (just not inside the fire-lookout structure). Everyone I spoke with said the last mile was a push. When you see the structure from below, keep going. It’s not as far or as close as you think.

The trail was in great shape except two riverbed crossings.... Just walk straight across. There was a bridge to help you across, it’s gone but very easily crossed at the time of my hike (10/16/18)

The road up to the trailhead was in relatively great shape. There were some potholes but that’s a given on heavily traveled dirt roads. The trailhead is 30 minutes from Concrete.

Tip: There are two drive up, single night campsites next to the trailhead.

Great hike.. beautiful views! Thank you Jah. The reviews make it sound much worse (as far as the road goes). 10-15-18

10/15- Beautiful hike! Definitely some elevation gain, but the views are worth it. :) We did not encounter bugs, and the trail was not crowded. Autumn seems like the perfect time to hike the trail! The drive to the trailhead was a little rough; it adds a good amount of time to the commute.

BEAUTIFUL! This is a must do hike. Fairly gradual so take the whole family with you too! Love love loved it. We didn’t do the entire thing because it was crazy busy but we will be back!

Perfect day today for this gorgeous trail. A little harder than Joffre Lake trail.

We hike a ton, but this was definitely a challenge. The first 2 miles were relentless switchbacks with no downhill or even flat relief. Needless to say, our legs are sore.

Very beautiful ! it was harder than I thought , especially it was no trail , muddy and rocks before we see the lake

Went there today. Very beautiful golden larch. Parking lot was full when I got there at 8:10. I had to park my car on the side.

Loved this hike! Watched a proposal on top- the weather was amazing, view was great, go do it. Bring $30 cash or you will get a ticket. Good tires recommended as you must drive on a long and bumpy dirt road.

Beautiful hike!

Amazing views but seemed a little more difficult than a medium as most of the trail was uphill. Great payoff though.

The views were incredible! Different lakes, a lot of fall colors and a view on Mount Rainier even if it was cloudy.
The road to get there is pretty difficult : gravel road and a lot of potholes for about an hour.

Beautiful hike. Tons of people, but still had sections of quiet solitude. Golden larches against the snow were beautiful. Micro spikes were helpful for a quarter mile section.

Awesome hike, the road up was pretty wash-boarded. If you want to go all the way to the lake, bring micro-spikes -- the trail gets snowy/icey at the end
