Great hike in March, icy trails. Came across bears by the river.

One of my favorite hikes ❤️❤️

I hike a great deal. This hike is one of my favs in the Pikes Peak Region. I found it to be more challenging than moderate. I recommend hiking boots vs. sneakers. The pebbles are difficult to gain traction on near the end, especially going down.

Awesome hike. Still icey but fun.

Hiked today 3/20. The trail from the rock steps up was very icy and micro spikes were very helpful. I ran into many people who turned back because of the ice. It’s a great trail and the arch is really nice with great views.
Difficult but definitely worth it.

Amazing gorgeous outstanding-wild raspberries at the start of the trail.

Hiked in early March, good amount of ice on trails, i had no spikes or poles but easy to avoid if you go from rock to rock, as there are a lot of rocks. Awesome views of the east

I love it here. Beautiful view. Got tough near the end, and the falls were frozen (3-17-18). Very pretty. Gorgeous hiking weather. Also, there is a sign where you see "St. Mary's Falls .2 miles" Turn around and you will see the switchbacks going up. I really think you have more of a hike than .2 miles!

Easy and fun!

Back to one of our favorite spots close to Denver. Patchy ice but was able to make it to Windy Peak without extra traction. Great snow capped views today. The stream along Mountain Lion is still frozen over making for some interesting sound effects. As usual it was pretty quiet. This is a great hike if you don't want to drive far form Denver but still want to avoid the crowds.

This was a really fun hike. There were a few icy patches, but overall it was clear. It was challenging because it climbs a lot over low mileage. Great views and the arch is amazing.

This was a nice hike last weekend. It was easy, but is made much more challenging if you take any of the other trails.
Has beautiful views and neat rock formations!

Beautiful view with the snow and lake. Highly recommend spikes.

Beautiful views from every angle, friendly people on the trail every time we go, great way to get out and be active! Bring your camera and friends too! Dogs love it also.

Hiked entire Mountain Lion trail plus went up to Windy Peak (amazing views). Trails mostly clear. Can easily do without any additional traction, but there's a few spots (no more than 50-60 yard stretches) that it may be nice to have, but don't have to have traction.

Great trail and view. Most definitely harder then moderate for us. Took us 4 hours to get up and back at a slow pace.

Short bit difficult; went in March (3/14/18) and very icy. Made harder and less fun. Want to go back

I definitely recommend crampons/shoe spikes!! Very necessary. Very steep slick icy spots still, saw multiple people slip! It’s totally worth the incline up!!!

Solid hike for spring. Definitely bring micro spikes or yak tracks as the majority of the trail is covered in either ice or a few inches of snow. No need for snow shoes in my opinion.

Parking is pretty limited. We parked next to the entrance (it said violators would be towed), but didn’t have any issues. Others were parked in the area without problems as well.

Happy hiking!

Beautiful lake.

The trail is still somewhat icy at the moment. But if you have your spikes, this is a fun, fairly quick hike that will get your heart rate up and reward you with a gorgeous view from the arch at the top.

I love this trail! It was difficult going uphill with the snow but hiking shoes and yaktrax were sufficient. I have hiked this in the summer as well and though I missed the beautiful lake at the top, it was cool to see the trail from a wintry perspective. The solitude was much needed and appreciated as I only saw a couple other hikers. Took about 3 hours round trip.

A great choice for a hike when going with kiddos or those that can't make it quite as far because it isn't long. The end reveals a rock playground with much to enjoy.

This is like the ultimate stair master on the way up. If you have bad knees, you’re definitely going to feel it but the views are really beautiful. A lot of cool rock formations to climb around on along the way. Path is nearly dry except for a couple spots. The lake is not grand at the end but I didn’t regret it.

Beautiful view! A decent climb. DEFINITELY need to have your spikes with you for some parts. Very icy near the beginning of the Arch trail and just before you get to the Royal Arch. If you have walking sticks or gloves for holding onto rocks etc then I recommend that also. I was very scared of going down but I have never walked on an icy trail/never ice-skated or been skiing so it was a whole new experience for me. Other people were running up and down there - making sure to step on the rocks and dry parts. I’m so glad I did it though.

Terrible. You have to hike up a road to even get to the entrance.

Spikes needed once you hit the spur to the arch.

Fantastic trail! I did this trail a few years ago and found it hard to follow. However, with the new signs, following "R1" all the way made it easy to get there and back without getting lost. I think this can be done in about 4 hours if you know the trail and can move quickly. Moderate to difficult in some parts. Definitely bring water and food. Might not be great for some kids or dogs with the class 3-4 downclimbing sections. Otherwise, amazing trail in the spring.

Steady climb but easy pace and well trafficked. Nice reward at the top.

Icy, but beautiful & worth the effort.
