Steep. Icy. Lots of holes. Not traveled much.
Snowshoes are a must as of 2/14/2021. Only about half the red was stomped out and hikeable, but still very challenging in the snow. We had to turn back before summiting lambs hill because it was not packed enough. Now we know better for next time. Trail is well marked.
more challenging than thought this would be. Steep and some tricky sections with rocks and ice. I would not say technical but solid footing is needed. No spikes needed as of now. Nice view of the city to the south and Beacon to the North.
Nice trail with multiple great views. well marked - did counterclockwise - red to white and then downhill at end doesn’t have a color marking but easy to follow. Not many people on trail on a sat in January. Only negatives was the long downhill at end and that you could hear cars from highway for part of the hike
Awesome.
This was a great but confusing hike that ended up being closer to 9 miles and not the 6.3 as advertised. We hiked the red marked overlook trail from Sunnyside Road parking area to a left on the the white marked ridge trail at 1.75 miles to the top of Lamb Hill and on to bull dozier junction (abandoned bull dozier) at 2.2 miles. We than continued on the white trail clockwise thinking we would finish the loop at dozier junction and head back down the red over look trail. Problem was that the white trail terminates at a yellow trail about 9/10ths before the loop finishes but the AllTrails map show a continuous white marked trail loop. One must continue on the yellow trail at the same elevation level (head slight right, do not descend). Yellow trail connects to a blue marked trail which eventually heads back up hill to the abandon dozier. From there retrace the white trail to Lamb hill to the red overlook trail back to parking.
In order to complete the loop follow the red blazes to ascend all the way to the top. At the junction, Turn left at the white blazes. Follow the white blazes for a while (it will take you to the opposite side of the mountain). At the top right before the right turn to bald hill You must turn left and away from the white blazes into an unmarked trail (the white blazes will take you back and forth to the same point. The trail is clear and well trod but you will find no markers. This path will take you to the plane wreck and all the way down back to the red markers and the parking lot. Very thick and slippery with the fall leaves.
Great for hiking enthusiasts. Awesome views of the hudson river valley. Watch out of the "Bermuda tractor triangle". you'll understand when you get there.
Hard work but fun
Great trip! Not sure of the reason for the pit and back part (which you could skip to cut the distance), but really loved the trail and the views.
It’s fun. Great view
we did the full loop and then some (lots of trails to accidentally detour down). Out for 5 hours with a lunch break included. Good diversity of trail, nice vistas. Can be challenging with a lot of rocks and scrambles and elevation hikes, not for novices.
We can spend less time if we don’t get lost
Lovely trail and very low traffic on a Friday - hardly saw another soul! Definitely rocky, recommend boots and it’s starting to get precarious with the fallen leaves :)
A nice hike that is shorter than what is listed. Lots of cool viewpoints of the Hudson and the city. The downhill is a brutal stretch that just doesn’t seem to end. Plane crash memorial is a cool history moment.
