A beautiful, forested hike to an impressive waterfall. We arrived at 8:15 on a Sunday morning and were surprised it wasn't too crowded. Be sure to bring $3 (exact change) for the parking permit (or you can use your national parks pass/America the Beautiful pass according to the government website). A sign says the lower trail to the falls is closed currently, but we saw folks on it. The trail to the observation area above the falls is currently locked. Part of the trail about .1 from the falls is washed out, but you can easily scramble through it (or go above it as others have done). Highly recommended hike!

Worth the climb

great hike. definitely worth the view at the top. if you're adventurous ne sure to check out buzzards roost. for the novice it's a difficult (hard) trail for the experienced it's moderate. have fun and be safe. let's roll out.

Great trail even in the rain, take the upper trail up and the Lowe trail down.

difficult but worth the view!

This is absolutely beautiful! The route up is steep but the way back is so quaint and pretty. The falls are gorgeous and when its warm, the water feels amazing!

Beautiful scenery, challenging hike, wonderful views.

A bit of a "meh" from me and my 12 year old daughter. The views of Carvins Cove are amazing, but Hay Rock itself is utterly forgettable. The multiple power line crossings also detract from the experience. We clocked it at 7.9 miles round trip from the park and ride, and would rate it as a pretty solid "Moderate" in difficulty.

In my opinion, the best views in the area. A steady climb with plenty of switchbacks brings you to a breathtaking view of the valley and reservoir below.

I’ve been hiking this for almost 30 years. It is one of my favorite hikes and different every time. The view at the top makes it all worth while.

Beautiful area but the trail on a Saturday morning was very crowded and the parking lots filled up by 9:30 am. There is an entrance fee to enter park but it is included with a national park annual pass. I would recommend going either on a weekday or early morning on the weekend. The beauty is worth the crowds though

Hiked this one today. Actually, that was my second attempt to climb the rocks all the way to the top. First time around it was drizzling all day long, boulders were slippery, and I did not finish it. Today was sunny - different story. Good traction, because it was dry, and spectacular views all the way up (if you are climbing the boulders). Very very challenging climb, and I have done some tough trails. Rocks are getting bigger towards the top, and harder to climb. I had enough brains in the end to take side trail down instead of jumping boulders back...lol. Highly recommend if you want entire body workout. Do not recommend if you have knees problem.

A great hike! Challenging but well worth it. The view from the Cliffs is amazing! A black bear crossed the trail ahead of mean the way back down. That got the heart racing. It was a great day hike and part 2 of 3 for the Triple Crown.

Trail is narrow for a good portion of the climb and it’s a steep, steady, incline all the way up but the view is worth it! We hiked the extra 1-1.5 miles along the ridge to the other overlook and had even better views there.

It was the Devil’s Climb to Angel’s Rest, but the view was worth every bit of the 1,800 foot elevation. It was an intense cardio workout on the way up and tedious on the way down since it’s steep and rocky in some places. It is a beautiful trail with some witnesses wildlife. If you feel like you want to stop and turn around halfway to the top- don’t. Both views were great, so recommend going to both spots. My dad and I are Appalachian Trail rookies no longer!

Lower falls trail closed, but took the slow climb on upper falls trail. Trail is wide and good for groups, kids, and dogs. Waterfall is gorgeous. Was not too crowded on a weekday afternoon — but I could imagine the worst on a weekend. Highly recommend the trail for an easy hike for regular trekkers or harder hike for this less experienced.

Fun, short hike. Started early on a weekday morning and ended up having the entire top to myself. Clear day, great views, and light breeze.

steep trail, beautiful at the top

Loved this trail. Diverse in meadow and forested areas, hard stair climb, AMAZING views. Got sweaty and enjoyed every second of it.

Lower Trail was closed due to wash out areas from rain. Had to go up and back via upper trail.

What a great, well maintained area. Relatively easy hike. So many little falls and pool areas to see. Amazing.

The falls are stellar. Just incredible.

Go. Now!!!

Loved this hike, The view at the top is amazing. But the bugs at the top were INSANE. Never seen such a swarm of them in my life.

First time ever doing this hike and I loved it! Definitely worth it!

Great hike, beautiful views!

views are incredible. trail not well maintained when i went but worth the trip!

Saw a bear about 15-20 feet from the trail. This is an awesome trail, and the best views are before the actual rock overlooking the cove. Beautiful and a great workout!

Tough hike. Trail is rough in spots due to heavy use. Gets a lot of use because it is the direct route to Tinker Cliffs.

The hike is really steep the closer to the top you get. The views are good but not the best. Once you’re at the top it’s better just walk the ridge about an extra mile to the Pearis Ledges were there are some amazing views. There are lots of deer around and I steeped on a black snake stretched across the trail. Coming is pretty difficult because it’s so steep and you practically have to run in some spots.

did the hike with the family today. I do a lot of hiking.....this trail is WOW. the pictures do not do it justice. As you peak the first set of rocks, you're thinking you're done....and you look up and.....a LOT more scrambling. totally worth the effort and if you like scrambling you will love this!

Beautifully established, the cows and wildflowers made it great.

Do not go right by the fence uphill. Will redo the hike with family when they visit!

Great hike. Pretty good trail up to the actual Marble Yard. The trail that skirts the yard to the right is very steep and narrow but a good challenge. Beautiful views along the way if you step out on to the rocks, WOW.
