We didn’t have ideal weather which impacts my rating a bit. Extremely foggy and misted a bit but it was still a great, challenging hike. Saw several groups of mountain goats along the way up to and at the peak. The fog did manage to part for about 10 minutes while we were at the top so we could see some of the nearby peaks and the lake below. Down seemed to take a lot longer than up, but that was probably mental because of the weather.

We did the hike from the lower trailhead. We lucked out with the weather - November 12th and sunny, temps in the mid 40s, but this hike is such a workout that we shed our coats pretty quickly. No snow anywhere on the trail, a few parts were slightly muddy. The first part through the forest is very pleasant, but fairly steep already. After the merge with the upper trail, it becomes very steep, and very rocky. Our lab is pretty fit and used to hiking, but she was not happy crossing one section which is all big rocks (an old rock slide?). Other than that, the trail is wonderfully maintained - fresh log railings and LOTS of rock steps. Beware, what was supposed to be a 5.3 mile hike was really more like 8.9 miles according to our smart watches - and sure felt like it, too! The views from the top are amazing and get progressively better the higher you go, so it's definitely worth it, but next time we may consider leaving the doggo behind.

beautiful hike! Gotta love up hill!

Highly-recommend trail!!! There are two trails separated when walking about 40 mins. The trail starts getting harder once u finish bridal veil and set foot to Lake Serene, because there are so many rocky switchbacks and the accumulated ice makes them much harder. Watch your steps, cuz the rocks covered with ice are so slippery, and my friend even slipped three times

This was my second time hiking Mount Ellinor. It was a beautiful hike not as difficult as the last time I hiked it .We had a great day and beautiful views Definitely recommend this hike ..

This was overall a moderate-ish hard hike. Like the rest of the reviewers, recommend doing the bridal veil falls first. There’s a small loop near that takes you closer to the falls and then back. The trail starts getting harder once you finish bridal veil and set foot to lake serene. With 23 switchbacks in 2 miles, this is a beast of a hike. The only thing that makes switchbacks harder is rocky switchbacks. But the trail has so many treats with little falls all over, that distracts you from your screaming knees. Quite a few creek crossings as well. Lake Serene is absolutely mind blowing. Definitely hike up to the lunch rock once you reach the lake, it’s a better view of Mt Index and Serene. The hike back down was much more challenging, this time of the year. With the rocks just having a thin layer of ice, it can get really slippery. Took me a little under 6hrs. Started at 11:15am, got to bridal veil falls by 12:15 and made it to lake Serene by 2:30. Spent about 25 mins at the lake and was back to my car by 5:00pm. There wasn’t any snow.

Hiked Saturday (11/10). Lot was about 75% full when we got there around 9:30. We did this combined with the falls. Seemed like most people just did the falls. Please be aware that the bit where it opens up from the tree line, close to the lake, is very slick and you’ll see frost around. I busted my knee, several others slipped/fell. For me, this was definitely a hard hike, especially with the slick rocks, so be sure to plan accordingly and consider the time of year. We took about 50 minutes to get to the falls, about 2hr 15min to get to the lake, and 2 hours out. It took us longer than expected, at our usual pace I predicted 4-4.5 max.

very cool and well worth the hike. this was our first actual hike so it's hard to measure it against anything. pretty steep incline but we'll marked trails and plenty of stuff to see. people along the way were very friendly. had an unbelievable time.....yes well worth it. ad thank you to those of you who donate your time to keep those trails looking the way they do.

The lower trail was really scenic with a nice forest view, I would only do this part once.

The upper trail was AMAZING and very tough during the last stretch of it.. It was pretty hard to find the trail due to the big rocks and the hard incline up. The whole trail had great lookouts. though. The top was really cold, but that was expected. We made the sunset in time.

Definitely one of my favorite hikes ever and I would do the upper trail over and over again

We forgot that daylights savings meant an hour less of sunlight, so we didn’t quite make it all the way to the top, will be doing again :)

the roots and rope climbing sections here are definitely a highlight

Did this hike after another 2,000+ up/down hike.

Hiked from the bottom to the top and then took the Gondola down.

Note: There's a restaurant at the top but it's not terribly good.
Note2: BRING BUGSPRAY. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

There were far more people hiking down, but I always like the challenge of going up. Much nicer. Also, you can buy gondola tickets at the top, so you can leave early in the morning.

We parked at the upper parking lot and I don't regret it.

There was a heat wave going through at the time so it was extremely hot. We did this with our Golden, and the air quality was probably pretty poor because there was a fire in the Olympic Park.

But was still an amazing hike. I would highly suggest it, and, if possible go on a clear day!

Says it is hard. Feels more moderate. We did a round trip in 4.5 hours with an 8 year old including time chilling at the lake. It's always beautiful. I also didnt see any change to the scenery from the past summer's logging that shut the trail down.

Awesome steep hike! 20.6 lbs pack . Gorgeous day. Hard but the view at top is so worth it. 6 hours 33 minutes ,10 seconds.

Amazing 360 view at the top. Great hike for being outside the national park and dog friendly. Road is gravel and bumpy all the way but low clearance cars can still make it. We hiked it 10/20/18, No snow sunny beautiful clear day. Fall colors were starting to die off but that didn’t change the view at the top. Great hike and view for short distance.

One of our favourite hikes we've done! The drive up through the trees in fall was fun and while it takes a little time, well worth the effort as you get some impressive views on the way up.
The hike itself was relatively short for an AMAZING reward. We saw Rainier, St Helens, Baker, Olympics and Adams all in 360 panorama. You get a perfect view of the Rainier glacier, without a ton of people around.

Unbelievable hike this morning. On the trail at 630 a.m and sitting on top to watch the sunrise. The weather was perfect for fall, especially, at the summit. Very intense hike. I never give in.

One my favorite hikes to take my dog on! The view on the top was amazing! Wonderful view of all the mountains!

2018/10/13 Saturday (Hiking Date). Best hike. Very good views (Falls, Lake). It is a rocky trail with lot of stairs. Total of around 7.5 miles. Tip: Visit the lake first as it needs more energy and then cover 0.5 mile trail to Falls on return. Also been there in 2017. Will I go there again? Yes.

Freezing. Gorgeous peaks. Waterfall on the way. Sept 1.

im not in great shape so this was tough for me. im glad i did the falls first because i was exhausted by the time a got back down from the lake. it was soo worth it though. im used to doing hikes during the week so very surprised at the amount of people. a message to anyone who is on the hefty side, "you can do it." although it might take you longer and bring lots of water.

Great trail, the falls are definitely a must on the way to the lake. It didn't feel as though as we thought it would be. It was crazy busy so that kinda took away from the magic.

Had a great hike on the upper trail, which is for sure, difficult, especially after the snow fell the evening before. Wear appropriate footwear and dress for conditions. The ascent is testing so do lots of sauntering to prepare. You will love it! The 360 view is real nice.

Loved it .

amazing hike and amazing views!!!!! the weather was perfect, saw 3 mountains. very bumpy road but totally worth it!

Fantastic trail! the falls is a quick and easy trip and you should definitely make the side 0.5mile visit. catch it in the fog and be ready for amazing pictures.
the lake requires much more work, not hard but persistent elevation gain through a mostly well kept trail with wide-breasted stairs throughout. plenty of things to look at along the way not just boring dirt. the lake itself was clouded out for me but still awesome to be up there.

Such a beautiful hike- I give it a 4.8. It was harder than moderate and the road in was indeed bumpy but the reward was worth it.

First time on the trail. Started at the lower portion to get the full experience @ 7:00am. Lower is a breeze. 2 miles of casually walking through the forest with the occasional incline and switch back. After you hit the sign pointing to the upper parking lot things begin to pick up. The trail become gradually steeper. When you finally get out the forest the trail begins to turn into the mountain side and you are above the clouds by now and the view is Breathtaking ( if not covered by clouds or fog). The hike to the peak was hard only because there was a good amount of snow covering the trail. Because of the snow the trail was a lot more slick and not treaded on since we were the second group on the trail that morning. Total it took us about 3 hours to the top and 2 down. The trek down was tough (around 11:00am) since there were many people on the trail. There was ALOT of people heading up when we were heading down. GO EARLY! It will be worth it. Nothing is worse than standing in line during a hike. If you take the upper trailhead you will be saving a lot of time. Probably wont do the lower trailhead again. Not much of a challenge. DRESS WARM (THERE IS SNOW UP THERE). The last section of the trail is very steep! Be prepared to a hike with much variety and levels on intensity. IF YOUR BOOTS ARENT WATERPROOF THEY WILL GET SOAKED

Nice fall hike. Oct 7. Hiked to Bridal Falls then to lake Serene. Total mileage is about 8.4 miles. Started at 1115am, was in my car at 315pm. With maybe 25min spent at the falls and 25 min at the lake.
