4.5 mile trail not 3.5. View is pretty good but hard to find when you get to the top, especially in the snow. Main downfall with this hike is the horses really did a number on a good portion of the trail which made it extremely rocky, muddy and wet

Easy day hike with cool views and nice waterfall. The airstrip offers some nice views if you hike out to the end. The trails are forest roads so doesn't offer much fun or challenge in terms of 'hiking'. You can also add in the Reasonover Creek Trail to make a longer loop.

Nice hike. More private than other waterfalls in dupont. Good swimming spot as well.

I live just a mile from the trailhead on Old CCC. Hike this trail year round. Makes for a fun out and back day hike. Part of the trail near the end gets very overgrown with brush during the summer but keep pushing past that part to reach the summit. My favorite time to hike this trail is in the winter because it offers better views.

Lightly traveled earlier in the day.

Pretty easy hike without super steep slopes and views of the blue ridge mountains the whole way in the winter. You can see the valley and little houses. The lodge isn’t there anymore—burned down in 1926, but there’s a placard with a description of the lodge so you know you’ve made it.

Took the Lodge Trail around and picked up Mountains to Sea up to Wolf Den. Was raining and slick so skipped the last leg to Pinnacle Peak, which I did a few weeks ago. Trail in good shape with decent views along the way.

Short hike, pretty easy, I got to the top in about 20-30 minutes. View at the top is awesome and it’s about a 270 degree view. There are a lot of different spots at the top to sit down and enjoy the view

Well kept trail with many nice vistas.

Easy hike! Nice “beach” area for hanging out. The falls are beautiful. Wasn’t sure about the primitive road going down to the trail head so I parked at the first pull off

Great to go at sunset.

the view from atop was beautiful. The hike up was fairly short. I did enjoy a nice open view of the sunset.

Only climbed from start to first peak but was kinda disappointed that it took us to Blue Ridge Parkway.

Good short hike. Did this with a 3 and 6 year old with no issues. There is parallel parking on both sides of the road right at the trailhead. Ends at a waterfall that has an observation deck. Also some side paths that you can use to get underneath the waterfall. Trail was not too muddy, but I’m also not sure the last time it rained.

Short hike with a relaxing pace and gentle switch backs. Beautiful woods. Nice clearing at the top with spectacular view perfect for a picnic or a morning coffee.

Absolutely beautiful at the top. Do it. You won’t be disappointed.

Went on a chilly Sunday. Trail is pretty flat and uncrowned. The Falls were a pleasant surprise. Very large and a very peaceful stop for lunch. One of our favorites in DuPont.

Awesome trail. We loved the terrain. Beautiful views.

The river crossings were more challenging than expected but the waterfall was certainly worth the wet feet. You definitely need proper hiking boots trying to walk across the river rocks and maybe an extra pair of dry socks.

The trail has changed alot since the storms we had this year. crossing the river was a challenge for my short legs I wouldn't have made it if my husband hadn't helped me. The waterfall was beautiful as always though.

We’re late middle-agers in decent shape and found the first part of the hike tough on the knees without hiking poles. There were throngs of chatty people going up and down until we took the less traveled and gentler toll road, bypassing lookout. The top of rattlesnake was an easy rock scramble with great views and lots of secluded areas to hide away from the few others who summited and away from the interstate noise. Loved it!

Beautiful waterfall and a nice leisurely walk along a wide path. Plenty of parking and many other trails to explore if you feel like venturing off. Quiet area and peaceful.

A beautiful wooded trail that was well maintained. We loved the creeks along the way and waterfall at the end.

Definitely the best of the summits in the nearby area above Montreat. (Hike to all of them while you’re up there.) Far fewer people than on the trails to the other peaks. Great view from the top.

Easy walk to viewing area. We didn't have any issues with downed trees at all. Beautiful falls!

I agree, the view from rattlesnake peak is even better than lookout. I missed the right turn to go directly to rattlesnake, and ended up doing the Rock scuttle all up to Lookout before continuing on to rattlesnake. So depending on what you want to do – to go directly to rattlesnake peak make a right turn on Old Trestle Road. It’s a four way intersection and very obvious about a third of a mile up Lookout Trail. You only need to walk about 30 or 40 feet and you’ll come to another intersection. Make a left hand turn on old Mitchell tall road trail. I think it was about a half or 3/4 of a mile it could’ve been more, but you will see a big sign for rattlesnake look out on your right. From there it’s about a half of mile. If you do what we did and go to Lookout first, continue straight after lookout point. You will come to an intersection after maybe five or 10 minutes, make a right on Hickory ridge Trail. Continue on Hickory ridge Trail, until you reach old Mitchell toll. Make a right, and going this way Rattlesnake Trail will be on your left. The whole loop took us about two hours As we took it easy going up and took plenty of time for pictures and enjoying the scenery. The total loop for us was 2.8 miles.
