Very nice trail, mostly downhill to Cliff lake. All three lakes a very swimmable right now. Close to 80 deg. Shadow lake is largest and prettiest.

I would love to find those responsible for spray painting the walls. they should serve jail time. the hike is easy and short.

We often bring friends and family, especially kids. At 6'2" I will bump my head on the ceiling in places, and. looking up you'll trip on nobby places on floor. The entire walk is slower than the milage indicates and outside part hot and dry in summer, carry water if you bring kids.

So , awesome views good experience and a great workout. Downsides is it’s far from the main areas of the park also very far down a dirt road which is tough on your car. Very exposed not a lot of shade. No bathrooms nearby they were all closed. This was last year end of July 2017. Cinder means one step forward two steps back but on the bright side it is only .5 miles up the Cinder cone. The views from the top are magnificent though 360 views. This is a definitely a must at least once in your life. How many people can say they’ve climbed a volcano! It was great to have that feeling of accomplishment at the end of it all.

Such and amazing view and close to my campground. The reflection off the lake of lassen peak was so beautiful! Manzanita campground was crowded but also has some awesome amenities and located in such a great spot! I loved this little loop you don’t even have to do the whole thing you could just walk around find the perfect view and chill! Also stayed around end of July 2017

Enjoyed the trail it is always calming to be around the waters edge.

Peaceful walk even if there was smoke in the air from a fire on the backside of Lassen. Maybe next time we might try kayaking.

gorgeous with the lupins carpeting the forest, and the emerald lakes. swimming at Terrace and Shadow helped beat the heat.

So much to see on this one loop!

Glad to have hiked a volcano, however, loose gravel the whole way up and sand path on the way to and from the volcano. Good calf workout but not the most enjoyable hike we did in the park!

Amazing!

We did this trail opposite - starting at cold boiling lake because bumpass hell trail is currently closed. Amazing hike, but NOT easy done this way. Steep all the way to bumpass, but so worth it. Beautiful wildflowers all along the trail, mostly shaded, and we were one of the only ones at the end. Fun to enjoy bumpass without the crowd.

A gentle easy loop around this very pleasant lake. Great views of Mount Lassen that reflect on the surface of the water. Ducks and fish and deers in abundance.

The hike from the bottom of the cone to the top is a little hard because of the gravel. Took me 30 mins to hike up and less than 10 mins down. The experience of walking inside a volcano was exhilarating. Bring lots of water since there is no shade along the hike.

With the Bumpass hell basin area being closed for renovations until 2018 end, took this trail from cold boiling lake to Bumpass hell. Easy hike with amazing views of Crumbaugh Lake along the hike and Bumpass Hell. Cold Boiling lake was disappointing though.

Interesting cave. Rough ground to walk on. Be sure to have a good light source. We can check it off our bucket list.

Kinda disappointed in this one. Don't go expecting a boiling lake, most like a few burping air bubbles. The hike itself is nice and has some great views though.

I did this hike this weekend with my mom, sister (age 11) and son (age 4). I would say the first part of the trail is easy/moderate (due to the terrain) and then climbing up to the peak is hard. It was pretty at the top even with the smoke but I would not do this hike again and did not actually enjoy it (and I hike A LOT). Mainly because of the terrain you have to walk on. When you are headed up, you take a step forward just to slide back. With all that being said though we made it to the top and into the crater. It is nice (and a cool experience) when you get up there and I am happy we did it since we were there but wouldn’t do again.

Easy and beautiful

Excellent. Previous reviews say it well. Note: your smart phone flashlight will NOT suffice (unless you like running the risk of stubbing your toes or tripping). Note regarding dogs: a previous reviewer cautioned dog owners regarding tender paws and lava rock. Here's my point of view: if your dog primarily hangs out in the house or on a backyard lawn then you may want to be careful about taking your dog through. The lava rock underfoot is dirt and mud covered, but it does poke out in multiple places and could hurt a tender paw. If your dog regularly walks or hikes with you on varied terrain including cement, gravel, rocks, etc. and you take reasonable precautions about which path your furry friend takes in the cave, you should be fine. My husky walks and hikes frequently; his paw pads had no problem with the cave floor.

What an awesome experience. Bring your flashlights or you won’t make it through!! A short walk up well established steps leads you right to the opening of the cave. Within minutes you are inside the lava tubes. We went early in the morning after a rainstorm and could see water crystals on the roof of the lava tubes. Easy enough for kids but hold their hands because of the rough rocky ground. Definitely a must stop if in the area

Just go slow up the cone itself - take breaks every 25-30 meters to turn around and look at the amazing view. Husband and I did it on a whim - not experienced hikers and not used to the elevation (we live at 30’ about sea level). Took about 38 minutes to amble from parking lot to cone and then 30 minutes to slow climb up it. Spectacular views. Was windy and cold up there. Would do again. Fantastic.

I had an outstanding time at Lassen. There were only a handful of people in the park it seemed all morning. So peaceful! I decided to take a lap around the lake and get some shots after I finished Mill Creek

absolutely love this hike!! , its more like 4 miles round trip ,1/5 mile of CONE lol feels like more tho haha.. the cone is tough at times to keep good footing , just keep a steady pace and dnt look up lol , and you'll make it.. under 15 min no breaks for me but everyone has there pace ..I find that stepping in the footsteps of others helps , slightly more compacted .. be safe enjoy , and please stick to the trail , help maintain the preserved beauty of this amazing place .. get up and get out there !!

Tons of bugs on this easy hike around the lake but you right by water so it’s to be expected. Definitely make sure you were bug deterrent before going. Lake was peaceful and beautiful with ducks floating all over and some people fishing of the side and on the lake. Super easy hike. More for picture moments than anything. Lassen Peak was right behind still with smoke on its peak and looked beautiful reflecting off the water.

Definitely worth the hike up. The views were awesome. Probably one of the toughest hikes to do is up steep terrain with lava rock as your treading but made it to the top. Did this hike yesterday. Weather was perfect. This park is gorgeous and all the lakes and white peaked mountains were stunning. Will definitely return.

Remarkable, you can see such landscape at nowhere else
