We hiked this day before yesterday. The weather was perfect for it. I had never heard of this place before and it really was a great combination of scenery for one hike. We started on the ocean and walked all the way up to the jetty. Google maps makes it look like there is a road that goes out onto the jetty which we had planned on walking out on, but there isn't a road there and we didn't feel like navigating the rocks. Then we continued back walking alongside the bay. The road is very rocky which isn't as pleasant on the feet after the nice beach walk but the view was really nice. If we do it again, I think I would go in the reverse order and start off along the bay and finish with the beach portion. We had our 7 year old with us and he did great, not getting very tired until the last mile or so.

Beautiful views of the Gorge. It was not real muddy when we went. The soil is very clay like and it was very compacted down. My shoes were hardly dirty when we got back to the parking lot.
Just an FYI, the spot where the lower trail begins (the area that is closed off) isn’t well marked that it’s closed off. However, once you reach the waterfall, that’s as far as you’re supposed to go. The trail is not blocked off prohibiting you from continuing on, but that is where the forestry would like for you to turn around. This is a really great hike!

Beautiful hike! I would definitely do it again, but in the summer. My car could only make it within 2 miles of the trailhead, so we walked up the road to get there. We had to stamp through the snow the entire time, which made for an adventure! However, I definitely recommend snowshoes if you hike in the winter months. The views from the top were stunning and made the trudging worth it in the end.

A nice easy loop. Beautiful scenic views of the lake and Mt. Hood.

One of my favorite hikes! Done it many times and it's good in any season! Amazing views of Mt St Helen's, Mt Rainier, Mt Adam's, Mt Hood and Mt Bachelor from the top!!

We found this on a day in February with amazing weather. We did the whole thing and it took the afternoon. Bring a snack and enjoy the ocean, the rocks, and the bay.

Not much to say about it. Overal it is a nice hike.

Such an inspiring place to be, silence and serenity and freezing temperatures. Luckily the sun welcomed us at Lost Lake.
We had to park our car 3 miles down the mountain because of snow. But it was worth the hike.

Due to snow we had too park our car 3 miles down the lake...Next time we will hike this trail. Instead we hike up to Lost Lake and had an amazing time there.

NOTE: lower portion is closed until July 2018 (I posted a pic of the map that shows where). Still a very pretty hike. Went on a weekend morning, and it got fairly crowded as the day went on. Go early in the AM if you want the trail more to yourself.

Great hike! My gps recorded this loop at a little more then 7.5 miles. Be sure to wear good shoes and bring water! The views are spectacular! Great hike in January and even better in the summer months.

Pretty views. Decent climb. Muddy!!! There is a part of the lower that is like a scramble. The last 1.3 miles is a road walk. It’s lame but there’s a couple waterfalls and some incredible viewpoints. Cliffs areas. 2 dogs have died here!

Fun trail. Hiked on 1/20/18. Needed snow shoes to get to the top.

Great Loop, close to town!

Be prepared for some serious wind up there!

Trail is closed from Jan 1, 2018- July. Road is gated off so you can’t get through to the trail head. Very sad. ☹️

But I will be back!

This is a beautiful hike with multiple waterfalls, breathtaking views of the gorge, and some challenging terrain. Today the top of the trail was very muddy. There is a long section on the lower trail that is very rocky. Next time I will bring trekking poles.

Love this hike! Must do the lower portion too

Good hike, but check wind before you go. Exposed areas make it very chilly. Bundle up!

excellent

For a “hard” hike I’d say it’s on the easy side. Great length. Super easy hike in aside from one of the bridges being out so you have to balance across some rocks. Lots of climbing back to the parking area on the way back. 10/10 would do again.

on Hart's Cove Trail

Beautiful hike, lots of downhill at the beginning (therefore lots of uphill on the end of the return trip). Path is mostly packed soil, some gravel at the beginning, path is only one person wide. Beautiful surroundings, lots of ferns, Huckleberry bushes, some huge Sitka spruce. At the end you pop out of the trees on a big green hillside over the ocean (like Cascade head but smaller and covered with a lot of salmon berry bushes) on the south side of the hillside there is a great view of Hart's Cove, which is beautiful. Cliff Creek pours into the cove in a (50ft?) waterfall. The cove is filled with seals, you can hear them even in the wooded part of the hike. There is a decent amount of parking, it was more crowded than the Cascade head parking though, seemed like a pretty popular hike. There weren't any sketchy parts really, but you do have to pick your way across one creek where the footbridge washed out, it was pretty easy, but could be hard if the creek was higher from recent rain. We got a late start and had to return in the dark with flashlights. The trail conditions are clean enough for that... but we did see signs of a bear (a huge old stump clawed apart recently... bears looking for grubs).

Very well maintained trail, and had a decent time on the trail, but don't think I'd ever do it again. I liked the random farmland, that was honestly the neatest part.

Great hike. Tough on the knees one the way down, tough on the thighs on the way back. Absolutely worth it though! The gate off of HWY 101 is only open July 15th-Dec 31st so plan accordingly.

Absolutely stunning views from the top on a clear day!

This hike has been recommended to me several times and it was stunning. Beautiful in the winter but very very windy!! I was able to trail run the majority of it with my hyper pup - we will definitely be back! :-)

wind was crazy! the end of the "loop" ends on a road. head left, up the road, to meet back to the parking lot. walking in pavement for just under a mile.

Totally worth the hike just for the amazing view
