This was a great trail! I took my husky and he loved it! The second half of a hike is hiking up a stream which you have to crossover quite a few times, and if you go after it rains it’s very difficult not to get your shoes wet (after a while I just gave up and walked in with my shoes) it’s very rocky and at some points it’s uphill/rocky. But honestly it was gorgeous, it was also incredibly trafficked so if you don’t like talking to people but maybe avoid this one? Haha my favorite hike so far!

Careful if you’re taking kids! Due to the rain the water is up to the knees, and the current is strong. I saw a man falling while crossing the river. It seemed like his knee was bleeding. Parking is free. A bit trashy. Go early if you want to avoid loud people. We started at 7:30 and it was pretty quiet.

Excellent after a rain, especially for the full experience at the falls, but be aware that it makes it super muddy and you'll have to cross the creek several times - bring waterproof hiking boots to protect against the water and all the rock climbing you're going to have to do. Lots of dogs on the trails, both big and small, but I saw plenty of dogs of all sizes who needed to be carried through some parts, so keep that in mind when you bring your pooch! The hike itself is GREAT - one of the best in OC! though because it's so popular it gets super packed.

Beautiful waterfall at the end of a great hike! The first half is a flat walk, and the second half you’ll be climbing over boulders and rocks as you follow a stream to the waterfall. Super fun!

Recommend wearing water shoes because you have to cross the river at least five times after major rain fall in January. I did not park in the general parking area, parked on top of the hill, hiked my way down side trail that meets up with the main one.

Very fun trail especially after a rain. Although it gets crowded later in the morning, there are lots of paths to take to avoid the traffic jams on the trail. I think the trail continues on after the first major waterfall

The trail was awesome but a little crowded. Lots of dogs too but all were behaved. Water is flowing nicely after all the rain we just had. You will need to park in the upper parking lot and hike down. The trails are maintained well and was very nice. I’ll go back again soon.

Heavy traffic, but very pretty area. there are multiple stream crossings right now, so water shoes of some sort are a must!

Loved the amazing waterfall! Wear good hiking shoes. We had to cross the stream a few times over slippery rocks and our feet got a little wet, but we still loved every minute of it!

Heavy traffic! Long hike down hill. Nice view , lots of water in the creek. You need hiking stick especially crossing the creek back and forth..

Because of the recent rain the waterfall was flowing. All uphill from parking lot to waterfall. It's definitely a medium difficulty hike going up. Very pretty views all around. No shade going up but there is shade at the waterfall. Limited parking

The trail was awesome! It rained all last week so there was lots of water in the creek and falls. The water made it a bit tricky, but it was worth it to see a waterfall in this area. Glad I wore waterproof hiking shoes.

Pretty difficult hike for clumsier people. There Are a lot of rocks to climb and jump off. If you’re shorter that may present a difficulty. The trail meanders a lot so it seems like you’re jumping from side to side a lot. You will have to eventually get your feet wet so plan accordingly. Don’t forget your socks like I did -_- came 3 days after the heavy rains we got on 1/15/19. Mud is still really slippery, and the rocks themselves are slippery too. Saw a lot of dogs so it is dog friendly. Be prepared for a long hike it took about 4 hours round trip.

Great trail, made for a wonderful day. We went after a rain so be prepared to get wet if you do (4 crossings to/fro; 8 total). Not as many bums/homeless as mentioned in other reviews, couple of tents hidden at the start of trail.

Enjoyed seeing the waterfall, but this trail is just too crowded! Crowds made me feel like I was at Disneyland. The recent rain made for a lot of stream crossing and I often had to wait in line just to cross the stream because there were limited places with lower water levels. One woman even yelled at my kids when they crossed a stream out of turn.

It was beautiful but now it’s noisy and trashy! Put earbuds on... not everyone wants to hear ur crappy music!! The sounds of nature are so much better than whatever ur blasting from ur phone. Please take ur trash with u when u leave!!!

Love this hike!! Beautiful views of the mountains & lots of shade on the lower canyons. If u go in the fall the colors are amazing ❤️

Stough Canyon was closed due to mudslides, so I opted for its neighbor, Vital Link Trail. 3.2 mi doesn’t seem like a lot, until you’re a half mile in and realize the entire trail is basically a vertical climb (1,699 ft gain). The views make it totally worth the climb and you can bag a mini “peak” in under 2 hrs. There is a bit of erosion on the trail and definitely some sketchy spots due to rain. But a great little, quick butt-kicker of a hike!

relaxing and fun trail.

Fairly easy hike, was able to do this with my 4 year old daughter and wife no problem. Tons of folks out there on Sunday 1/13/19. not a quiet hike, but enough space on the trail for everyone. Hardest parts are just crossing streams here and there on the way to and from the waterfall, very doable for all ages and dogs are allowed too !

Easy trail to follow. Was pretty slippery and muddy when we got down into the falls entrance. People were friendly. Trail was clean. Would do it again. Easy one for the dog too. :)

Trail closed 01/13/19.

We couldn’t get to the parking lot because the area was blocked off, so we parked in the residential neighborhood 3 miles below the trailhead and hiked up. Sturtevant falls was beautiful! It’s only about 2 miles from the trailhead. Would be great to visit in spring after it’s rained a little bit. We combined this hike with a visit to Hermit Falls (which was another 1.5 miles or so from the trailhead). Total round trip was about 13 miles. Nice and shady hike at this time of year, but be careful when visiting the falls because the rocks are slippery.

great hike, VERY crowded. went on a thursday, a less busier day but still saw a lot of people on the trail. parking wasn’t difficult, they have a lot as well as an overflow lot. half of the hike is relatively easy on a paved road. take a left when you come across both forks. the second half of the hike (after you get under the bridge) get significantly prettier and shadier. you cross the stream a few times before the waterfall. the water flow was good. too much graffiti but honestly not a lot of trash. makes a great skill level for beginners.

I did this hike before the fires and really loved it

Beautiful.. now one of my favorite hikes! Great variety of views and inclines. Love the stream passing through and the views at the top right before you head down to the falls. We started early to avoid crowds and boy it was worth it, we had the falls to ourselves for a good 20-25 min!Took about 2.5 round trip. Highly recommend this hike!
