This is a monumental experience to hike in Petra. The natural beauty and history make it surreal.

simply amazing.. how this city was carved out of the mountains 2000+ years back. hike to monastery is basically stairs.

The first part is quite steep down (starting from Dana), the rest is fairly flat / with a bit of ups and downs. However, it's a very long trail with little shade. Make sure you have enough drinking water + insect spray (there we're very annoying flies that drove us crazy). If you arrive at thé ecolodge, you can have a fresh drink. The 4WD back costs 45 JOD. This makes sense, because you have you drive all the way down by Little Petra.

We did this trail on our own, without a guide. You shouldn't do the first part of the trail - it is steep climbing and not clear where to go. Just follow the jeep road, which starts on the left before the entrance of Little Petra. It's easy hiking (in the sun, though!) and this map helps you take to stay on track. You can do this by foot or by 4WD. The end is by foot & steps, afterwards it gets a bit trickier, but not too hard. Enjoy!

Tons of walking but just amazing.

The whole trek is amazing. World expeditions run a nice trip along with Wadi Rum.

I did Petra twice in 2004 and 2005, it was awesome! Unbelievable how such a city could be hidden from the world for so long. Indiana Jones made it popular, but the treasury is not what TV portrays it.. Loved it..

Mist be done with guide. No signage and major consequences if you get lost. But holy crap everything is amazing along it

I have done this trail many times. It starts in the village of Dana and ends in Fenan. Beautiful all year round but netter avoid hot summer days as the trail is exposed and does not offer any real shelter from the sun. Always have enough water with you.

Petra is magnificent. 5 stars for the views. Be sure to walk to the Treasury and continue on to the Monastery. Went in late June-it's hot! Pack plenty of water. Terrain isn't too hard, it's just a lot of steps to the Monastery. The walk to the Treasury is evenly paved with a gradual incline.

It is a bit of a walk and the 800 steps will leave you a little tired, but it is worth the trek all the way to the Monastery from the entrance. You will see the Treasury, the theater. and a temple along the way. Bring water, wear comfortable but durable shoes, and enjoy the area. Don't forget to climb up past the Monastery to get an evening higher view of the area.

This is a rather straighforward hike from Feinnan lodge to Dana Village through the broad Wadi Dana. The trail is easy but it is long and it can be very hot!

A hike through a spectacular canyon. It is not an easy affiar. You have to climb down some small walls, wade through some pools and even swim across one deeper pool. The end is at feinnan where there should be now an eco-lodge. It was being build when i was there in October 2002.

Woweeee. This was a butt kicker. We took our sweet time looking at everything else and then decided last minute to hike to the monastery at the end of the trail. HOT. Don't do this the way we did it. Get there very early and head straight to the monastery. You won't regret it!
