Awesome trail! - took the trail today with my wife and 3 kids. Make sure you take your time many of the stone steps used to ascend and descend the upper portions of the trail were covered in slippery moss. Was about 73 today but with all the foliage it was much cooler. Recommended if you have kids since it’s a good length if your looking to start small

Dainichi-Gatake is backcountry skiing/snowboarding for beginners. Good practice.

This was an awesome hike. Took me 4 hours in total and saw a few others along the way. be warned this is quite challenging with ropes and wooden ladders to pull yourself up along the way. I went on the 27th of December and underestimated how cold it would be at the top with ice and wind. Beautiful views from the top made it all worth while!

I’m in the sky. I’m like a bird above the cloud. These are very beautiful mountains in front of me. I can see The Northern Japanese Alps in the blue sky. Thank God !!!

This trail is tough. We hiked in early November while it was cold, muddy, rocky, and cloudy. Truly a majestic hike however. About 3km in we were above the clouds and stayed in them even upon reaching the summit. Boots and cold weather gear are a must as the temperature can drop 20-30° F during the ascent.

Hiking

I have completed this hike 4 or 5 times. It is an amazing hike. Remember it is a mountain hike and you must be prepared for a hike and not a light stroll. You will likely encounter some muddy spots, loose rocks, thick clouds and high winds however it is an amazing hike that you not regret. Dress appropriately, wear hiking boots and enjoy. Beautiful views and since it is a loop, you will never see the same sights twice.

This is a nice hike. Beautiful in the fall with the leaves changing colors.

lower part of loop below mountains was miles of bog (October). During leaf change there are some great views: but its so damn muddy!

Not very nice with no snow. With all the nice trial around this is really not a good looking place

Very easy! Great for everyone, even small kids, novice, and just “indoor people”. No dogs. Good views; mountains and lakes.

I love this hike! Nothing like walking on the rim of a volcanic crater. Takes between 5.5 & 6.5 hours.

Amazing spring hike to the "Eye of the Dragon." To see the eye of the dragon, make the hike from the last week of May or first week of June.

Mt. Hotaka covered with snow is the one of my favorite winter mountain destination . The degree of difficulty is not high, it is also appreciated to earn altitude with ski lift. You cannot rent mountain gears near this mountain. I strongly recommend you to take a snow-mountaineering course in advance.
