This trail starts off challenging and below average views. The trail was wet and a little muddy when I went, however, it was the day after a huge rain storm. Once near the top, the views are amazing because the trail follows a ridge line. I recommend taking a picture of the map at the trailhead to make your trail smoother. This is not for beginners. Be ready and take your time!

We started from Tokyo. Drove 7 hours and started the hike at 7am. We took detours to see the waterfall and lakes. The stream, sulfer vents and vegetation made the hike wonderful. For trail runners, this long course is perfect. Our course was 21km and 10 hours.

No different from all the other trails on the southside of Nobscot Hill, this one just wasn't in the Alltrails database. Now it is.

Challenging hike! Me (51) and my son (18) got up in 6.5 hours and back down in 3 hours. The trail starts out very smooth - almost a road - but soon becomes a narrow, rooty and rocky and steep scramble. Very narrow ridge lines in a few places, with steep drops on either side. Sometimes there's a rope, sometimes not. A few places there is strong hydrogen sulfide smell (rotten eggs), especially along one very muddy section of trail where sulfurous water is seeping out. Not surprising as Iwate is a volcano! But also not pleasant... But the view from the top is worth it! Very glad to have hiked it. It can be done in one long day, but it's correctly rated Hard!

Only half of the way is usable. From the starting point to the refuge then take the descent that cuts the loop in half. The rest is walking through dense vegetation with a very complicated, slippery and challenging path.

Trail was very awesome. Did this trail with my boys and we had a great time. You see beautiful landscape and scenery. Very hard at times but worth it!! We made it to top in 4.5 hours.

Did an overnight hike on this trail. It took 6 hours to the top and stayed in one of the mountain huts. The hut was beautiful and very clean. The trail is muddy in spots and has loose rocks in many spots. It is truly an amazing trail with beautiful views. The hike down only took me 3 hours. I would not recommend doing this trail all in one day or hiking alone.

The trail was very challenging, most of it was all uphill. Views were worth it!
