Established in May 2013 to contribute to the reconstruction of the Sanriku region that was destroyed by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Covers the north and south approximately 220 km of the coastline of Aomori, Iwate, and Miyagi prefectures. It features " The Alps of the Ocean" with its magnificent cliffs in the northern part and stunning ria coast with its complex terrains in the south. The coasts are home to numerous wildlife habits in the area. The area is particularly important for a breeding site for black-tailed gulls and streaked shearwaters. A diverse group of maritime plants in a unique coastal ecosystem, which always impresses visitors. Introducing featured activities at Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park (三陸復興国立公園)! Trekking/hiking along the coast is one of the popular activities. The Michinoku Coastal Trail runs from Hachinohe City in Aomori Prefecture to Soma City in Fukushima Prefecture is also recommended. The traditional Sappa boat tours are available in Tanohata Village and Kuji City in Iwate Prefecture (Sappa means bamboo leaf in the region, and the small boat appears like Sappa on the sea). The area is also well known for its fresh seafood! Visit one or some of Japan's largest fishing ports, Hachinohe, Miyako, Kamaishi, Ofunato, and Kesennuma, where you can taste amazing seafood! A unique national park in Japan with the purpose of recovery from disasters and people from all over the countries also visit for the education of disaster prevention.Show more
