Designated as a quasi-national park in 1963, Chokai Quasi-National Park (鳥海国定公園) features the stunning Mount Chokai. Known to be one of a hundred famous mountains in Japan, Mount Chokai is a massive active volcano comprised of two parts. Mount Chokai is also known as Dewa Fuji and a sacred site. Visitors can hike up to the peak of Mount Chokai for scenic panoramic views. The trail can be a bit difficult at times however hikers will be able to see a wide variety of flora and fauna. Additionally, at the peak of Mount Chokai, visitors will be able to see the Shirakami Mountains, Sado Island, and Mount Iwaki. Feeling weary after your hike? Make sure to stop by the hot springs located near the park to soak for a few hours! The springs also take overnight accommodations.Show more
