#1 - Alta Via delle Dolomiti 1: Tappa VIII Rifugio Vazzoler - Rifugio Carestiato
Taibon Agordino, Veneto, ItalyLength: 5.7 mi • Est. 3 h 17 m
After a short downhill and stony road, go up the steep path 555 which winds through a mixed forest with very varied flora. Leaving the wood below the walls of the Moiazza and its satellites, you then reach a large avalanche corridor. Once again, you will have the pleasure of progressing amidst abundant flora dominated by columbines. You then arrive at the Col d'Ors (1,700 m) and continue on the horizontal path under the Torri di Camp, crossing numerous corridors. The path 554 is clearly visible, marked and mound and leads to the Forcella del Camp (1,993 m). The very slippery terrain requires a lot of attention to get out of the grove. Leave the path to the left that leads to the Constantini via ferrata and finally arrive at the Bruto Carestiato Refuge on its promontory. From the Carestiato Refuge in Agordo the descent begins on the narrow and steep path 448. The slope softens a little 500 meters below, and you reach the end of a track, with some alpine refuges. The asphalted road that follows leads to a hamlet where small piles of hay are protected by curious plastic hats. You can admire a hedge of multicolored dahlias and Monsieur Seguin's goat. Lower down, the path infiltrates a thalweg where, several times, you cross singing streams with many wooden bridges.
