Take a half day or a full day to stroll around Lake Braies, probably the most beautiful lake in Italy. Its blue-green color and gorgeous backdrop are breathtaking. The hike itself is fairly easy, with a wide shattered rock path and some stairs. There are picnic tables and benches around the lake if you want to have lunch there, or just want to sit and take in the view. For even better views, you can even rent a wooden rowboat and paddle on the lake. There is a lot to explore in this area and you will have plenty of time to do it as this trail is centrally located in the Braies Dolomites and only takes about an hour to complete.Show more

An absolutely beautiful and challenging hike! It can be done in one day or combined with a stay in one of the Refuges to make it an easier hike. This route is great because you can see the three peaks but also other surroundings which are much less crowded than the three peaks circuit. Revive the legendary tour around the Tre Cime and extend the tour via the Forcella Pian di Cengia (Büllelejoch). From the Auronzo refuge, path 101 leads to the Lavaredo refuge. Then turn right towards Büllelejoch (104) on a path that descends on the southern slope of Monte Paterno (Paternkofel). On the slope behind Lago di Cengia, take path 107 and you will soon reach Forcella Pian di Cengia. Hikers recommend stopping at the Pian di Cengia Refuge to rest, even if you are not halfway through the hike. Return to path 101 on the north side of Monte Paterno to the three peaks refuge. From here, take the path towards Paternsattel and soon turn right onto path 105 towards Lange Alm. The trail leads downhill to the Rienzboden and back to the Langen Alm plateau. This part of the journey will seem particularly long. Then return to the parking of the Auronzo Refuge.Show more

The route crosses the three provinces of Bolzano, Trento and Belluno, 8 Dolomite groups and 30 passes and forks. The average altitude in this itinerary is 2000-3000 meters, with a few peaks over 3000 meters and some small but spectacular lakes. This Alta Via of the Dolomites is known as "The Way of Legends", as it runs through many places which have become famous by the telling of ancient tales: the fantastic Rupe delle Odle, the mythical kingdom of the characters of the Ladin Sagas, the remote and high glacial basins of the Vette Feltrine, which according to popular imagination have been inhabited for centuries by devils, witches and ogres. This route tours the Sassolungo Group, a mountain in Italy's Dolomites that features various peaks and is popularly photographed and visited. It is also known as the Langkofel Group. Some of the peaks and points of interest featured on this loop include: Sassolungo, the highest peak, Sasso Levante, Spallone del Sassolungo, Innerkofler Tower, Punta delle Cinque Dita, Dente, Sasso Piatto. The views along this trail are stunning, particularly in the area around the Malga Vaciara restaurant. The route isn't extraordinarily demanding physically, but it does have extremely steep drops off the narrow trail in some parts. Not for the faint of heart, or those afraid of heights. For the weary hikers, it may be better to do an out-and-back to the Malga Vaciara, where one can enjoy a nice lager and wonderful vista.Show more
