Best bird watching trails in Lombardy, Italy

The Greenway is a pleasant walk along the western shore of Lake Como. It extends for about 10 km through the hamlets of Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra, Tremezzo and Griante following the ancient Via Regina. Most of the walk is along the lake shore, while part of the walk heads towards the hills overlooking the lake and surrounding mountains with spectacular views.Show more

Recently recognized as a Nature Reserve, Val di Mello is an incredible jewel wedged between steep cliffs, crossed by a stream of crystalline water bordered by pastures and meadows. In short, a paradise to explore. The route begins on the cycle-pedestrian path that runs alongside the Masino stream, passing alongside the Remenno stone, the largest monolith in Europe. You arrive in S. Martino, the town of the famous Gigiat, a monstrous creature guardian of the Valley. From here begins the climb towards the splendid Val di Mello, following the path that climbs to the right bank. Continue with the river on your left, following the path that climbs up into the shady and cool coniferous forest until you reach the small dam that marks the beginning of the Val di Mello. A nice stretch follows between large blocks of granite and green pastures. Once you reach Rasica, go down until you reach the parking lot again.Show more

Walk a slightly steep stone path from the square to the ferry stop in Varenna, Italy on Lake Como to Vezio Castle with stunning panoramic views of the lake and surrounding villages. Entrance to the upper castle costs 4 Euros per person (discounts for students and seniors). There are bird of prey flight shows at certain spots throughout the day with various locally raised hawks and owls.Show more

This hike has it all to please and is definitely a real treat: it's long, but not too long, it has steep sections but not too many. You will encounter fields, sheer drops, rugged rocky paths, donkeys and cows. It can be difficult in some parts but definitely worth it and makes for a great day long adventure.Show more

This trail is long but not challenging. It was made for the 500th anniversary of Leonardo's death. The Genius intervened twice in the design of the "Naviglio Piccolo": in 1485 and in 1516. The Naviglio is a construction of the 500 that crosses a dozen inhabited areas to supply water for civil, irrigation, and transport use. Then it crosses the inhabited riverside areas. This canal is different in that it winds through developed housing. Most canals from that time were only designed to go through agricultural areas. It is a pleasure to go through the entire paved "tow path", it is well maintained. Even the water that apparently flows is clear and without "suspended" of anthropic origin. A good spot to stop and soak in the scene is at Cernusco sul Naviglio and Gorgonzola.Show more

Wonderful walk along the Adda river immersed in nature and the local history. Once in Trezzo dell'Adda you can return by public transport to the starting point if you don't want to go back on foot.Show more
