The Greenway is a pleasant walk along the western shore of Lake Como. It covers about 10 km through the villages of Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra, Tremezzo, and Griante following the ancient Via Regina. Most of the walk is along the shore of the lake while part of the walk heads up into the foothills overlooking the lake and surrounding mountains for spectacular views. Show more

Length: 9.4 mi • Est. 5 h
Recently recognized as a Nature Reserve, Val di Mello is an incredible jewel wedged between steep cliffs, crossed by a stream of crystal clear water bordered by pastures and meadows. In short, a paradise to explore ... Our first steps begin in Filorera, behind the Casa delle guide. From here begins the pedestrian cycle track that runs alongside the Masino stream, we pass to the side of the stone of Remenno, the largest monolith in Europe and shortly after we are in S. Martino, the country of the famous Gigiat, monstrous creature "guardian" of the Valley. From here begins the climb towards the splendid Val di Mello, following the path that goes up to the right bank. We always keep the river to our left, following the path that goes up into the shady and fresh conifer forest until we reach the small dam that marks the beginning of the Val di Mello. from here we continue always keeping the river to our left, between large blocks of granite and green pastures. On our sides, the massive granite walls that make this place a must for climbing enthusiasts. But it doesn't necessarily need to be athletes to enjoy this landscape; the splendid river-side meadows are an irresistible invitation to the Sunday picnic. Our march continues until we reach, in the Rasica area, a beautiful wooden bridge that allows us to cross the river and land on the other side, the most popular one. We go down following the obvious trail that crosses the groups of houses that rise to the right of the river until we reach the parking lot. From here our march continues on a paved road for a few meters and then we take a detour on the left that leads us to S. martino along a path that goes down through a conifer forest. We have completed the itinerary that we followed during our ascent, but on the other side of the river. At S. Martino we close the loop route to end with the last stretch taking the route of the outward journey until we reach the Casa delle guides in Filorera. Show more

The drive up from Lake Como to the parking lot is an adventure itself! Very narrow and twisting and turning. Heads up on that. The first mile from the parking lot is a good introduction to this hike. There’s some signs and directions. Also a sign tells you to bring a little firewood if you’re going to the top for people who get stuck. So if you see a couple twigs drag them on up. The trail is pretty leisurely as you pass goats and goat farms. From the first mile to mile 2 you get to know what you’re up against. The trail gets rocky and increases in altitude quickly. There’s lots of great photo opportunities along the way. From mile 2 to the summit it’s the real deal. The rocky trail has some scrambling and ropes to help you along. From the sign post/trail junction 0.2 miles below the summit, the trail has iron rungs and ropes and gets narrow and unforgiving in places. Careful up there. Up on the summit you can see the Matterhorn and all the way to Mont Blanc. The view is stunning in all directions. Show more
