Overall, great trek, challenging climb and awe-inspiring views. I heard cow bells during most of the ascent but never close to any of the sheep I heard calling out. I started about 0930 and saw no other human being except for a courageous mountain biker descending. As others have stated, there is little to no shade, no water, and no WC. I was surprised to be greeted by a big ole cow at St Michele Sanctuary. Arrived around 1130 at the very top, to the Statua del Cristo Redentore. I would not do this trek without sticks (hiking poles).

Nice easy walk with a lovely view. The path is quite clear. The town is also worth a view... and a lunch, it is very cute.

It's one of my favourite hikes here in this area. Parking may be difficult in summer. Starting from a beautiful beach it leads into the forest and up the mountain. The trail becomes very steep, and is not well cured, however the view on the top is amazing. Panorama view over the Pontina agricultural region and the sea with the islands.

Did this walk today, beautiful Spring Sunday, lots of families out walking and cycling too, saw lots of yellow butterflies! But we didn’t find the Villa of Pliny!

Amazing lake views from this trail. Not for a casual Sunday stroll but readily achievable for those with good fitness. Would recommend with the caveat that you either do it in reverse (sentiero 334 first) or just use the 333 as an out and back route. Descending along the 334 involves steep declines with a lot of loose gravel and even the most goat like of hikers will find this challenging to the point of unenjoyable. Knee joints take a bashing and if you’ve brought your 4 legged friend with you, it won’t take a huge amount for them to pull you into a skid of terror.

we did this hike in January and had a great time. it was a faily easy hike but just a little confusing to get to. we got off the train at castel gandolfo but orobably could have gotten off the next stop because we ended up walking about 2 km on the road to get to the trailhead hike was great! we did have to ask for directions a few times and definitely got a bit lost, dont hesitate to ask for help. the uphill was fairly easy and there was a bar halfway we stopped at on the way back for coffee and a beer. great day hike

wonderful hike with amazing views. the road up to the starting point are narrow and not well maintained but it is ok. we did not go all the way to the top but stopped at the church built in the mountain side. so cool! the second best part of the hike was the little restaurant at the trail head. such a great place to relax after the hike.

Often on the shady part of the mountain it opens to wonderful roman valley dominating view til Tirreno see in clear days. The tip of Montegennaro is home of eagles and falcons. Dry Rocky path when exposed to est, few restoring place if raining suggest to turn back to starting point rather than continuing to the end, slippery ground.

Great Hike, well marked, but the aggressive dogs guarding the herd of goats near the end of the trail was an unwanted encounter for sure .

What an amazing hike! Incredible views and great sights to see along the trail. Madonna della rupe, the church of San Michele (Michael the archangel), and the statue of Christ at the top- all make this a beautiful trail and an awesome way to see the mountains in this area. There is a maintained rocky trail but it does include some loose terrain and some steeper areas. I wouldn’t call this a kid friendly trail but anyone in decent shape should have no problem. I highly recommend this trail, it was an awesome experience.
