Must be 5 star, given the height and views, both into the crater and over the bay of Napoli. We paid €3.10 each way on the public EAV bus from Pompeii Scavi train station, then €10 each for trail entry. Money well spent. On a clear day you feel like you can see forever....

HikingOver grown

We hikes this train December 1st and it has been a rainy fall. This hike was challenging to follow due to over growth. The shaded areas were a little slippery. Once at the top/ rim it was clear, flat, and easy to walk. Beautiful views along the whole trail. I recommend jeans and sturdy shoes.

You can hike or mountain bike this trail. It is easy to get lost on this trail since it is not marked and many turns are not apparent. During the summer it gets very overgrown with thick brush and thorns, sometimes making the trail impassable. Recommend jeans.

Really nice walk up to Villa Jovis. Totally worth the €6 to see the ruins (that will add a little mileage here). Nothing compared to Pompeii but interesting, and there's a view from up top that is truly exquisite. There's a place to refill water bottles for a very nominal fee along the way as well. If the shopping and touristy routine on Capri aren't for you this is seriously a great, quick escape.

Hiking

We hiked up from the parking area which adds up to an approximate 4km uphill hike to the summit. If you prefer to cut your effort in half, you can take a tour bus that will drop you off near the ticket office (price was 10 Euro per adult). Very crowded and commercialized trail, offering decent views of surrounding areas and the crater.

Being able to hike a massive, active volcano overlooking the bay of Naples and the Campania region- was AMAZING.  The views were beautiful and was definitely worth the occasional scattered crowd. Hike is suitable for all levels of experience. There is little to no shade except at the designated posts along the end of the trail.  It can become dangerously windy and COLD (even in the dead of summer) so definitely prepare to climb in layers. Sunscreen and eye protection would be advised. Enjoy a glass of wine at the very top and take in the beauty that is Vesuvius!

Beautiful hike into the amalfi coast. Streams and waterfalls throughout along with ruins of old buildings. We ended up tracking 4.6 miles as we ventured farther towards the nature reserve which I would recommend. Overall awesome hike, and would definitely recommend to start in the morning. Only concern, a lot of downhill stairs at the end which can be tough on your knees.

Great loop, however, a portion of the trail is significantly over grown (thorny bushes) and rocky (seemed like I was hiking down a water runoff area vs trail). Not a showstopper by any means, but that section isn’t great for trail runs. This started around mile 12 or 13 and lasted 1.5-2 miles. While I wouldn’t call this trail “flat,” like another poster, there are points of ascension and then flat areas. The muddy areas were easy to navigate, but could be difficult after rain. Overall, great hike with beautiful wildflowers and views.

Loved this magical trail up to Villa Jovis. I am a beginner hiker and not in the best shape. I found it steep, but doable going slowly. The flowers, gardens, architecture, and most of all the views make this worth every step. We arrived on a boat tour and were given 4 hours to explore, The hike from Marina Grande took us through Ana Capri and on to the villa. If you are thinking about it... do it. The views are unparalleled.

I'm not entirely sure I would rate this as a moderate trail, except for the incline. the trail is largely cobbled with occasional points of corrosion or wash out in the second 1/4 mile. it is largely a gradual incline with sprints of slightly steeper incline, but nothing severe. overall, I really enjoyed the trail. it is large and easy to follow. The all trails map indicated the trail was complete a little earlier than what I believe should be indicated. if you follow the trail as far as it goes, you end up at a beautiful cathedral. I'm not sure what time of year, but there is a market there too.

Great trail in a volcano. It’s an easy walk, but no shade after the initial section (so can be hot in the summer). Beautiful views if the day is clear.

Decided to take a family hike, me being 22weeks pregnant, my husband and my 8 and 7 year old kids. It was very steep and the trail very slippery. Once we got to a plateau we noticed the trail was extremely overgrown. We were disappointed because we had climb so much only to loose the trail. It would have been a fun challenge if we could have kept moving forward.

The hike up Mount Vesuvius is beautiful! You really can’t go wrong here. Cars park at a lower lot and busses park higher to the crater, so if you come by car it will be a longer hike. The park itself was closed when we came but we were able to get up and see the crater, just couldn’t walk all the way around it. Highly recommend! Gorgeous views!
