Quite strenuous but worth it. You can drive probably a fifth of the way on pavement. The view and beer at the top is a great reward.

TMB - Day 6 From Rifugio Bonatti, Italy to La Fouly, Switzerland Views of the Val Veny are our backdrop en route to Grand Col Ferret. We experienced hiking at its finest with alpine meadows, rushing streams and stunning views of the Val Veny as a backdrop en route to the Grand Col Ferret (8320'), the border between Italy and Switzerland. Mont Dolent towers above and its summit is the meeting point of the borders with France, Italy, and Switzerland. You'll continue to be amazed by fabulous close-up views of rocky spires and sparkling glaciers. Our grassy path ultimately leads us to our evening's auberge in the quiet but scenic village of La Fouly (5280'). We awoke to an incredible sunrise view of Mont Blanc from Refugio Bonatti before starting our hike further up the Italian Ferret Valley on the balcony trail to a stop for some thick delicious Italian hot chocolate and cappuccinos and then we proceeded on our long hike up to the pass and border between Italy and Switzerland (Grand Col Ferret) and views of Mont Dolent - which sits on the border of Italy, France and Switzerland. Many waterfalls and stream crossings. The Swiss side of Mont Blanc is much less dramatic than the Italian side and greener with more pasture land. Hiked down to a stop for a cold beer at La Peule in the Swiss Ferret Valley and on to La Fouly for the night. Hiking: 10.5 miles. Elevation gain: 2,746', Elevation loss: 4,167'. Terrain: Hillside traverse followed by steep descents and ascents on dirt trails; some short sections of exposure. We stayed at: Auberge des Glaciers La Fouly, Switzerland Tel. (41) 27 783 1171 www.aubergedesglaciers.ch

Don't underestimate this bit of the TMB: it's a long climb to the pass, and an even longer descent to La Fouly, which seems like you'll never reach. GREAT scenery throughout, particularly at Col Ferret on a clear day: you can see all the way to the France border! Subtracting one star because a lot of this trail is a descent and walk to the town, which are a bit boring.

One of the most beautiful pieces of the TMB, this hike takes a few extra miles to get to Rifugio Bonatti, but the views are well worth it! It's a lot of elevation earlier on, but the scenery in the main ridge path (up to Col de Tete) is AMAZING - some of the best views I've ever had in my life.

Probably one of the most beautiful hikes in the world. Endless switchbacks our of Courmayeur and you’re rewarded with an incredible view (and if you’re us, a beer at Bertone) before continuing on to Bonatti.

Perfect for family trails! The little ones will love walking from a waterfall to another! Do it from June to when the snow starts to fall. ❄️
