So we missed the original trail head and turned out to be a great loop! Good conditions today sept 10. We didn’t see the overgrowth or wash out mentioned in the previous post. To find the loop we did head up the hard top road overlooking the lake and restaurant. Go up until the road does a 180 degree turn. Take a right onto the trail. When you come to the next fork continue up to the right. When you get close to the castle and the monastery, you’ll see the trail back to Santo Stefano. We went up to poke around the castle for a bit then headed back on that trail. Total was about 7 miles round trip according to my Apple Watch. Super nice. Wish I’d brought a picnic for the top.

Nice trail the rocky descent was horrible though and we were attacked by horseflys.

This trail has so amazing views so you can skip your plan to start paragliding!

Short trail to the castle if you don't want to be too lazy to drive your car straight to the castle parking.

It's not a loop, but out and back. It's the one like "demo" of Majella national park, so in the end of it Majella will show you a piece of its majesty and wild beauty. The view to the canyon is simply breathtaking. I'll be definitely back, these mountains are something more, you can feel like back in the ancient world.

Nice and smooth trail combining deep, fairytale-look-a-like forests with great views on the top of the plateau. The elevation is reached really easy.

This trail requires some serious maintenance, large parts are over grown or it’s totally washed away. Castle on the top is nice. In the current state would not recommend.

My husband and I were visiting the National Park and decided to make this day hike. It was my second hike ever, and it was the hardest I have ever done so far! My husband and I are very active and fit people, this one was a tough cookie! Be sure to have at least 3 big bottles of water and a sandwich to restore your energy once at the top, because I am telling you the first half all going uphill, it’s a bitch! But once completed, you will feel so happy and satisfied! The view is beautiful, of course. We encountered a fox, that we didn’t feed because part of wild nature, nor touch her, we just took a pic with it! :) be sure to have hiking sticks, we didn’t have any and we improvised with tree branches. Hiking shoes are a must to protect your ankle and knees, since this trail is very hard on your joints. Just be psychologically prepare and you’ll have a blast!

Great trail, but some bits are risky, especially with unstable gravel. Bring some sunscreen and enjoy the amazing views.

This is a superb hike with spectacular views, past an ancient castle and through some of the prettiest villages you will ever see.

This is the most standard route up Corno Grande; the highest mountain in middle Italy. The last few hundred meters to the top is a rocky scramble. You should be confortable in rocky terrain and have a good head for heights.
