Corno Grande is part of the Gran Sasso massif in Abbruzzo and is the highest peak in the Apennine Mountains of central Italy. It has the shape of a horseshoe and is located between three peaks and the most southern glacier in Europe: The Calderone Glacier. This mountain range was in ancient times a marine basin rich in coral. Today it is characterized by limestone walls full of canals, chimneys and cracks.
